My experience was horrible. I reserved the storage online, but when I got to the storage facility the employees were not helpful with giving me the correct storage. They gave me a storage that was occupied by someone else. (4648) I then retain another unit and informed them which unit it was. They never made the correction, so I was forced to pay $200 for a unit I never had and my unit was only $95 plus $10 for insurance. I informed the personal several times in person and by phone that the had me under the wrong unit. Everytime they said they'll correct it, but never did. So basically I was paying someone else storage bill. Then when I went to move out my storage they had the audacity to have a lock on it, but said my storage was listed as unoccupied, so if that's the case WHY DID THEY HAVE A LOCK ON TOP OF MY LOCK?? I was given a truck with the side mirror duct taped. As soon as I got on the highway the mirror tilted away from the vehicle. I drove for 1,000 miles without being able to see what was to the right of the vehicle. Also, the driver's door wouldn't close. I had to slam it in a very hard manner to get it to close. I didn't appreciate being given a death trap as my rental vehicle.Michelle M.

Storage locker I was assigned had broken locking mechanism, found this AFTER we move stuff in and tried to lock it. Then, when we told manager we were assigned a new storage space that was smaller, and that had a large pillar which made it even smaller. She had told us it was the same size and it was not. The vehicle rental had a shattered side mirror which made the driving experience extremely difficult and dangerous as one can not see what traffic was on the side of you. The young lady who took the reservation when I picked up was very knowledgeable.Marcella W.

The truck was old and dangerous. It was fine for driving in a 30mph speed limit but once we got it on the highway, I had to fight to keep it straight. I couldn't drive over 50mph. The tracking was off, the steering rack was loose, and the entire thing felt like it would fall apart. You shouldn't be sending people out in trucks like that.Geoffrey H.
The problem that I have is not with this location, but with UHaul in general and 665 N. Halstead. They assigned me to a location 2 days before my move which would have been less than 2 miles from my home and in downtown Chicago that is awesome to pick up a 20' truck. I called the location (665 N. Halstead) and spoke to the owner, who said that the truck would be available to me via the mobile app at anytime (I was wanting to pick it up at 7:30am) as I had a long drive ahead after loading the truck. I had read the reviews of this location, and saw many people complaining that the mobile app didn;t work etc... and I asked what if the app didn't work at 7:30am since he didn't open until 9AM and he told me that all I had to do was to call this number and someone would help me. I asked, "so you will answer the phone at 7:30 AM"? to which he replied "YES". Well, I did not feel comfortable and asked UHaul if I could pick up my truck the afternoon prior and they approved that. I even called the owner of 665 N. Halstead to let him know that I would be picking the truck up earlier than originally planned during reg hours and got a voicemail. I left a message and asked him to call back and confirm. No call back. I went to pick up my truck the next day at the scheduled time and to my astonishment, there was no 665 N. Halstead , no building there, no trucks, only an empty lot, and when I called the number no one answered again. I called Uhaul and they tried to call as well and received no answer. Long story short, this put alot of stress on my move, and I was re-routed to another location farther away which was fine but the moving truck that they gave me for my cross country move was dirty, and not a newer truck as they had told me. That was another stresser!! Long story short, I was very disappointed in UHaul and hope that others don't experience what I did!!linda M.

I am a student at UChicago and want to report a ridiculous and unfair rent experience at Uhaul. Uhaul has changed my reserved location without noticing me and charged the mile rate far beyond the real situation. I moved from 1400 E 55th Pl, Chicago, IL 60615 to 1616 E 56th St, Chicago, IL 60637 this Saturday (04/09). Therefore, I reserved a pickup at 5155 S Cottage Grove Ave, Chicago, IL 60615. However, when I arrived at the rental location and was noticed that my reservation has been changed to 431 W Pershing Rd, Chicago, IL 60609. I have not received any notice about that previously. Therefore, our move schedule is a little bit late compared to our initial plan. Our real moving route is (1) 431 W Pershing Rd, Chicago, IL 60609 to 1400 E 55th Pl, Chicago, IL 60615 (5 miles) (2) 1400 E 55th Pl, Chicago, IL 60615 to 1616 E 56th St, Chicago, IL 60637 (0.5 miles) (3) 1616 E 56th St, Chicago, IL 60637 to 431 W Pershing Rd, Chicago, IL 60609 (5 miles) The total route is less than 12 miles but it shows 62 miles in the receipt (see attached). This is totally unfair and unacceptable. Also, the fuel charge is far beyond the previous plan (from a near location 5155 S Cottage Grove Ave, Chicago, IL 60615). Therefore, could you help me investigate this situation? And I need a reasonable explanation and compensation for this situation! Please do not fool the customers!! Thanks,Songsong L.

When I arrived my truck wasn't ready the gentleman had to run and put gas in it they had to put my pad and appliance dolly. I reserved it in advance to permit me from being late to retrieve my stuff. This made me late for my scheduled pickup time. I was not told that it would not be a full tank of gas I then had to go get more had because it was only 1/4 of a tank. This made me late. Stefanie was the associate who prepared the paperwork for my Van pickup on 4/6/22 at 4pm. My reading for the gasoline was incorrect. She marked it as a full tank and the gauge indicated 3/4 full. I uploaded the photo of the van dash board and send it over to make the adjustment, but I was still charge for the the gasoline. Also, I returned the van 6:45pm and the store was closed. When I came to empty my storage unit, the lock did not work. Two U-Haul employees were unable to open it, and the lock needed to be sawed open. This delayed the emptying of the unit by one hour, and I had to hire the movers for an extra hour. When I asked the lady at the desk for compensation, she was unwilling to offer me any. On this move I used Uhaul 3 different times. 1 to arrange for help to move, which was Great! Saved my back from moving to the 3rd floor! 2- I rented a van for my small items that I needed an extra day. The staff was really nice. 3rd- 2 young men are the reason I would return. One of them stayed on the phone with me 10 minutes while I waited for my daughter to bring my keys. That was really nice. The other young man was friendly, helpful and answered all my questions and made me laugh even when I was scared when I saw the mouse trap. No mice came home with me.
