When customer makes a request more than a month in advance to pick up truck at a specific location. Please make sure that the truck is available when customer goes to that location to pickup the truck. I originally made reservations to pickup truck at New Furniture Outlet in Rock Hill SC but when I went to pick up the truck I was told when I got there that the reservation location had changed to U-Haul Pineville NC. Which took me out of the way for more than 1hour. When I got to UHAUL in Pineville the truck that I made reservation for 17ft truck had a damaged drivers outside mirror so I had to downgrade to a 15ft truck. The clerks there was very rude and impatient with me. It took me about an hour to get a truck. When I got home the shifter for changing gears was not working properly when I put the truck in reverse. So I called this problem in and it took the serviceman over 6 hours to come to my house to look at this issue. The shifter was/is very loose and definitely needs to be look at. He told me everything was find and working properly. I was not comfortable driving this truck but he said that all the other trucks operated the same way. In all for Friday I had 7 hours downtime from being changed to another location for pickup without any consideration to call me or email me in advance of this change. Also, I'm being charged twice for this reservation. I got charged on Friday April 22 $231.66 and Sunday April 24 $231.66. Why I'm I getting charged twice? It's very hard to get through to a customer rep. This was a very bad experience.LaShon W.

I wanted to do the self check in option but was not able to because my vehicle was not assigned. When I went inside to get the keys I was told they did not have that vehicle available, even though I reserved it the night before. While I was in there, there were literally screaming children in the back office, not one moment was I in there with any sort of quiet. I ended up having to take a van (that made my move VERY difficult and I couldn't even get all my things in) and was offered no compensation. When a customer returns rental trailer and is waiting for attendant to complete check-in, don't approach and ask, â€œYou don't know how to un-hook a trailer?â€ And appear bothered by the fact that I did not complete disconnect. The app is a joke for checking out and in, and in the end I was charged $20 because the app wouldn't accept a photo of odometer and the salesperson checked me in manually. Had a hard time finding my vehicle when I arrived, it was parked in the grass in front of the bldg, not a place I would expect to look.Mary S.

Trailer was connected incorrect to my truck. Upon leaving the trailer came loose and became a major undertaking stopping on the side of the road, trailer slamming into me, and then having to get out and man handle the trailer so that i was again aligned with the truck and re-hitching it correctly to the truck. Police stopped and help direct traffic. Thankfully no major damage to the truck, but it could have been A LOT worse. Next time I WILL NOT trust Uhaul employees to attach their equipment correctly.Jeffrey M.

I was greeted by the general manager and he was very pleasant and knowledgeable. The truck I received needed new ball joints. The steering was not accurate and the turn signals did not work. I mentioned this to the general manager upon return and he apologized and credited me back some of the rental cost. He was not aware of the issues with the truck. He was very helpful. These are the types of issues to expect from any truck rental. People abuse these trucks and It's hard for them to know and check every vehicle for everything.Timothy W.

Very slow, took 45 minutes to check out and then didn't explain renting a trailerâ€¦ needed lights hook up. Had to call to ask for help putting trailer hitch onto my carâ€¦ it was unorganized and took way too long! Then when opening the back door to the trailer it swung up into the ceiling and it took us over 30 minutes to unjam itâ€¦poor design.Lori B.

The mileage on the vehicle was different than the mileage reflected on the sheet. The manager of the location corrected it on the sheet and initialed it, however, upon return another employee refused to acknowledge the correction and charged me for the extra mileage. This cost me an additional $20 or so. I will never rent here again and will ensure that I share this story online.Stephen A.

Truck would not shift into gear on automatic shifter. It took me all morning (3hours) to get the shifter to go back to drive. This caused a delay in getting truck back in time. In addition, when I picked up the truck there was no gas, showed 8 miles to go. The rental center said â€œthere is a gas station a couple miles up the roadâ€ really!!! I returned the truck with 1/4 of tank. No thank you or credit. Not a good way to do business.Kenneth V.

The lady checking us in and out was wonderful. The issues we had were we booked online and we even booked a cart to help move furniture. apparently when booking online it doesn't notify the local place to reserve items. She was able to remove the charge. at check back in the person wrote down the wrong mileage. The lady at the desk worked hard to straighten the problem out and give us the proper refund. the refund process in the system could be more straightforward which is not the local units fault.katherine C.
I have been a U-Haul customer for over forty years in part because of your service. I realize in the time of Covid that business are having a hard time getting and retaining staff but as a women who spent many many years in the service industry I must say this was one of the worst experiences I've had with any business. The woman that waited on us was new but the tasks we were asking for were simple, rent a truck and a storage unit e.g. U-Hauls bread and butter. Day one Decision was made to rent a ten foot truck, as the data was entered it was repeated back to us accurately After a brief discussion it was determined we would rent a 7x5' unit BUT we were told we could not look at a unit so we knew if this would work, we questioned this several times. When the order was confirmed back to us it was discovered that a much larger and more expensive truck had been ordered, we were assured this had been corrected Day two we did not have an easy feeling so went back to look at the unit the unit was tie wrapped so we walked to the office where a nice man named Charles informed us we needed one of their locks and apologized that wasn't provided already Walked back to the new unit only to find out our key card did not work Back to the office to find out changing the unit logged us out of the facility so we just needed to check in. Charles apologized but it is note worthy to say at the same time waiting us he was bombarded with questions from the rest of the staff. Back to the unit and everything was as expected but left us with an easy feeling about the truck Walked back to the office to wait for Charles to be available (the only reason we didn't walk away all together. Charles checked for us and saw we still had the more expensive and larger truck than was needed. He immediately corrected this for us Day four, moving day and a Saturday line of people and only one person at the counter, the woman who had screwed up our order so badly It took forever to get the truck because of the staff shortage and the person waiting on people was so new Upon returning the truck, the same woman did not know how to enter starting and ending mileage which should have been a simple task, when it was figured out we were charged two dollars for a seven mile round trip journey where the mileage needle did not move, talk about rubbing salt in the wound. Again loyal customer of forty years and I would like to think the company would address appropriate training and ensure the trainer is training new trainers to ensure there is always knowledgeable people to answer questions and rewarding those support staff that are under stress and stepping up to the plate to go above and beyond for customers and their coworkers.Louis B.

I've rented from the Lancaster Hwy location twice now and have been given excellent service and goods both times. The last time I rented, I accidentally left a hand truck on the back of the truck I rented and found that the hand truck had been stored away until I picked it back up. When we checked on they had assigned us a unit that had double locks from previous user. Had to reassign another unit. Wen we notified them we were moving out they never removed us and continued to bill us for another month. It took 2 phone calls to customer service to have them finally close out our account. I had some confusion in the process of checking in for an appointment and payment that I made online. The attendant did not seem to know about the details of my order. When I tried to bring this to their attention their response to me was â€œhow am I supposed to know that?â€! I felt like i was on the defensive. I rented a climate control unit. Obviously, it wasn't climate control. My bed made of leather melted on my table and damaged my bed set and table. They're both over $2,000.00. Yes, I declined the insurance because I had my own but all in the same breath if the unit was climate controlled this wouldn't have happened. I paid over $230 a month for items to be damaged. On the day I moved in, the elevator broke. We couldn't use the stairs to get to our 2nd floor unit bc they had been locked from the inside. With no way to get back to our unit, we called Uhaul customer service who promised the facility manager would contact us the next day. Never, ever heard from him. We also called the emergency number listed on the elevator which was to the facility manager- he didn't answer and his voicemail was full. We left that night without ever getting access to our unit which was wide open all night. The next day, our friend was able to get to our unit for us by getting the office to unlock the stairs. My experience today was very inconvenient I moved in my storage 3 weeks ago, and today I go to get something out of my storage and u-haul mixed up my storage unit with someone else's. I was told they assigned someone else my unit and that I needed to take my stuff out and move it to another one. After explaining that this was not the first time the switched my unit I was able to get them to fix the issue. I am not treated well by sine of the uhaul stores like the boxmeer store. Unfortunately with the charity work that i do i have to use uhaul. I am getting use out of home depot trucks they have no mileage charge unlike GREEDY UHAUL charging from $.79 to .99 a mile. Greed the ole American Greed! I have no issue with ballentyne store. Boxmeer store has taken money from me an entire month ago$83.09.. They locked me out a storage 3 days after i put items there and have not allowed me use of the storage for an entire month. On saturday i hored two guys to help me get the items called before i came $150 for the guys to come only to not get in the storage was told they cant let me..TO GET MY DAM STUFF REALLY. I HATE UHAUL ACTIONS AND DOES NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY IN WHAT THEY DO TO CUSTOMERS. I REPORTING YOU ON BOXMEER UHAUL CINDY DO NOTHING GM TO THE NEWS YOU HAVE COST ME ALOT OF MOMEY AMD ILLEGALLY CHATGED MY CREDIT CARD CINDY..YOU MADE A $39 TRUCK RENTAL DRIVING 49 MILES INTO ALMOST $200 RENTAL WTH!!!!!!!!!UHUAL is not hirting for money. Freight elevator is so small, and totally inconvenient. My wife & i thought we had booked an outside unit, not interior 2nd floor. When i was done - the reps advised me i was not allowed to return the equipment because someone else already determined a different place for me (which was completely out of the way). The staff outrages to some customers abd do not talk friendly. They are disrespectful in conversations they have in front of customers. I would of gave it a five star but the first day we went there but there was a young female who work there and had a nasty attitude and was upset because she needed to move a truck out the way. It was blocking the storage they gave us but then came this other female who was a manager and solve the problem, and I told her that girl needs not to work there with that f up attitude, she got us really upset but the manager was really nice and was apologizing for that young girl. After that we end up having our stuff an extra month and did not have any problems. Staff was really nice when we would go and take our stuff out. Storage unit was fine. Quarters are tight when pulling a trailer. Frequently have to have uhaul trucks moved to get access to unit. Often had to move small trailers to be able to get out of facilities while pulling my trailer, rentals were often not parked in marked spaces, once popped my trailer tire on the tongue of a rental trailer that was jutting out into lane. I had to drive ten miles from there just to get a truck when I already had to drive 30 miles from where I was moving to. Poor service from Uhale in Kentucky, even poorer in Pineville, NC. I would of said excellent but there is a young girl that works there, that is not professional at all, she didn't want to move the truck that was blocking our storage and my husband is trying to tell her we have a truck full of stuff and we need the space. So I went to the office nobody was there but then that girl came and gave me attitude, I lost it and told her off on that girl. it looks like the manager went and help out and fix the problem with this nasty young girl issues. I got stuck inside of the facility after moving in not being able to open any gates to get out receiving "access denied" message. It was only 7:15 pm but the facility access hours are 5am - 10pm. Tried to call the facility manager but it went straight to the voice mail box that was full. Luckily, I noticed other customers retuning their truck after hours and I asked them to try swiping my card at the terminal outside of the main gate. This complaint has to donwith a previous conversation I had with Charles regarding returning the 26' truck at time when charlotte is experiencing a gas shortage As I had mentioned to Charles the customer cannot/should not be held liable for for the crisis while no gas stations are open and the ones that are, you have to find them, meaning 10-30miles from your drop-off destination point. In a short summization I was charged $4.00 gallon from quarter to half tank marker in addition to 30miles on top of what had wouldn't have to pay had the customer be help liable for uncontrollably circunstatces during this gas crisis. I can't express my disappointment of my final receipt if $117.00 less a service fee all customers are having to pay, while still the profit of U Haul a multi-billion company is only being deposited at this time of crisis to there bank account ...... NOT GOOD BUSINESS to a company Ive used for 50yrs+. I do plan on making a larger complaint to recover that exspense hence the unfairity of this rental experience.EZEKIEL J. | Overall Experience

I kept this unit for approx 5 years. It had been broken into twice. First time all of my brothers vinyl records were stolen approx 4,000 that he collected from the time he was very young and passed away at the young age of 59. I got one month of free rent. Because I didn't have a catalog of what was in the collection I couldn't claim on my home owners insurance. Even more important is I can never replace them. The customer service and energy is awesome there. I like how it's culturally diverse and how gender doesn't play a role in the level of respect and responsibility that's needed to support customers after all those trucks are big and equipment is heavy but each employee surpassed my expectations with a smile even when I needed assistance outside of normal duties they rose to the challenge. I'm so excited to see how they may grow into management or ownership one day. Only advice is when lines gets long there should be an outside waiting area or better way to organize customers who need to park temporarily or for the time of their rental for extended parking. So maybe a text system to say who is next because coming off that hill swinging into a full line of trucks is not the safe way to go because your employees are struggling to move trucks cars and that energy can be used to help customers not be traffic control. My experience with my storage unit can only be rated as below average. I've never had a bad experience with Uhaul but this new experience makes me change my opinion because I had damages. I made my payments on time for the duration of the time I needed the storage facilities. But the day I moved my furniture out of both of my units. I noticed alot of my furniture was molded and some were completely ruined. And of course the insurance coverage I paid for each of my units doesn't cover that form of damage.
