I made a reservation for a truck and storage by calling into the call center. The young lady was extremely helpful, but the rest of my experience with U-Haul after that was horrible. When I found out that I was not going to be able to be in Huntsville by the time the store closed, I started calling. No one answered and my calls were transferred to the call center. The gentleman that I finally talked to said that he talked to someone at the facility and that I would be able to move in my unit after hours. This was not true! I had to get an extension on the truck for two extra days. While paying movers to unload the truck, they discovered that there were holes in the top of the truck, so my mattresses got wet. I also had to rent another unit because the one I had was not big enough. After renting the second unit we found a lock on it. I called the store and again no one answered the phone! There were three people working in the office and NO ONE answered. I sat on hold for over an hour waiting for someone to pick up. I finally drove back to the store to get them to come take the lock off. I expressed to them that I was paying someone by the hour and we had completely wasted an hour because no one answered the phone.Latonia W. | First Impressions

I would give an excellent review, but everytime I went to the storage building there were no moving carts to be found anywhere. It wasn't that they were in use either. I reserved a unit online and went into the store to get a key card. It was convenient because it was Sunday, and they were open until 5pm. I was also able to rent a truck at the same time. I got my truck loaded up with storage unit items, and headed to my unit. We got there only to find the key card we received did not work (which I was told may not work for 24 hours) and the special code I made (incase the card didn't work) did not work either. The after hours manager that was listed on the gate never called back, and the store front was closed because it was 10 min past 5. I could never once get through their phone lines. It would hang up every time. When we finally got into the unit the next day, it was not climate controlled like I had reserved. The elevator smelled of old cigarettes and pee and I was just not overall pleased. I was sick with Kobe when I first reading from you out accidentally got the truck stuck called a tow from U-Haul they towed it away and didn't let me have a chance to get my things okay a month or two went by finally I found the place with no help from the company and then I was chastised by the gentleman just as about me being unemployed test I was about my husband working 40 hours to us about why I did that and so told that all my stuff was stolen that I stole the stuff from someone else anyway then I received another message about a month ago which I didn't even know I got but basically explaining to me I have 4 hours to pick up my things or else okay so I'm going to get a lawyer and I'm going to sue because I lost a lifetime full of memories because of U-Haul you're in covid and I know they got stimulus money I only received one stimulus check the whole time this whole epidemic has been going on and it's just sad to know that company like this with freaking take advantage of someone like me that can't even afford to use one anyway or can afford one but not the way they made it I also lost the whole vehicle they pay me half a million dollars give me my things back maybe just maybe I will drop everything but as of right now I'm going to have a lawsuit against everyone involved except really do anything. another problem during the whole time I tried to rent the truck day by day nobody ever called me back nobody ever helped me find out anything next is like I don't know like I'm just supposed to do it automatically on my own I don't know but it's sad it really is and I'm not going to stand for I have to I have to get a lawyer because I lost everything everything because of U-Haul and now I hear my stuff is in Huntsville where I don't even live. and even after all this happened and there's nobody to talk to I can't seem to get in touch with anybody just like Darren when I had the band I tried to rent it day by day and tell them I was going to keep for another day nobody can help me apparently the system flawed and I wasn't in the system so it f'd up my whole life excuse my language. now I'm thinking retribution because I can't even I can't even do anything I have nothing because of you all and no one's going to help me except a lawyer who's going to get me back my whole life. which I'm currently in negotiations with and will soon start a case against u-haul. and I would drop the whole thing if they give me half million dollars to give him my stuff I would forget the whole thing ever happened to be my best friend and I've never seen anybody before I don't think that's the way to do things in this world but I'm going to this time because it's only way I've been done wrong so many times but this is done absolutely just incredibly wrong they might as well burn down my house and laughing and asked me for money while they watched it burn .Janine W. | First Impressions
When I reserved a 10'x10'x30' climate controlled room; the rate I was told was $229.95, also have an email that says it. Only to get to the location yesterday after driving 7 hours with a load, the gentlemen said it was not available but there was a 10'x10'x25" climate controlled, certainly very stressed but relieved a large room as available. I asked what happened, he said someone lied to you when you made the reservation. I found out the rate for 10'x10'30' is actually $259.95. I was quoted the wrong rate and there was no 10'x10'x30'!! I actually moved out on March 25 and continue to receive statements claiming that I'm still using the storage unit. Furthermore the service was terrible I had a number of problems simply receiving a unit that was clean and not in use. Hello, I debated for a couple of days on whether to do this review. I just recently rented a storage facility (roach infested) and I have been telling the employees and now the general manager for 5 days. NOTHING has been done. I kept getting we will handle it...STILL not done. I moved in on 3/29/21 and I rented a uhaul truck on 4/2/21. Just not pleased overall with uhaul. The only reason why I am still renting the storage facility is due to it's convenience. The only helpful person was Willie. He helped me with my truck rental. After moving out of my climate controlled storage unit after 5 years, I found an abundance of rat droppings and a roach. I filed a claim and an adjuster contacted me. I was then told since I didn't have insurance through them I would need to file through my insurance company. What is my insurance company going to do about a maintenance pest problem? That is a building problem. She also told me they have no control of what people bring in and store like food. That is a terrible excuse. Within 5 years I was never contacted to change the bait box or any thing like that. I DO NOT! Do not recommend dealing with U-Haul or their insurance claim center!!MICHELLE K. | Overall Experience

Customer service on the office was very poor. One female manager was very nice and helpful. Other staff would not acknowledge your presence and often acted if your questions and or concerns were bothersome. Needed help once and waited 90 minutes only to learn that no one was coming. This was after being told twice that staff was on their way. Access code failed several times. One to E I went down 3 times before someone came to let us in the Gaye. Neither access code nor the entry card was working. Nice place to store your belongings but staff can benefit from customer service training. Have used Uhaul in the past. I am thoroughly disappointed in Uhaul as a whole. I will not use Uhaul again & I will not recommend it to anyone. The amount of miscommunication between uhaul.com & the individual branches is incredible. It's hard to believe it that Uhaul is still operating at a profit. One of the biggest issues is that when you call the office phone the line is busy and you have to sit on hold for 30 minutes (or longer) or keep calling until someone answers. Was leased a storage unit that ended up still being locked and full of previous tenants belongings. Over a week has gone by and still no climate control when we were promised it would be fixed the day after we moved into the unit. I contacted corporate and was assured I would receive some sort of response in 3-5 days after I contacted corporate. To date still no response. I will be moving out in the next week to an actual climate controlled facility and do not expect to see any sort of bill from uhaul corporate or the local storage facility. The cashier that helped me, was horrible. He complained the whole time he was helping me. I asked him did he need my reservation number, he told me no. But when he asked me my last name, it didn't pull up my reservation at first. I offered him the reservation number again, then he told me that he didn't even know how to put in the reservation number to find .y information. I asked was anybody else there to help him. He replied, "other people are here but no one is really helping me." So I just dismissed it. Then when I read my receipt, I mentioned to him that I had reserved a first floor climate controlled room. He told me that he just picked a random room for me. I told him that my reservation would've helped him, because I had reserved a first floor climate controlled room. Then he told me that none were available. So I just took what was given to me, but all in all, the service was HORRIBLE!!!!!! I called early in May to let Uhaul know I was moving out of the unit before the 21 when rent was due. On the 9th I moved out. A grounds person, a nice lady, told me to let them know at the office that I was moving. The office doors were locked at 4440 University and no one around, no note on the door, etc. I dropped my remote to the gate into the key box and left. On May 21 my account was charged AGAIN for the unit, I then drove to 4440 University and banged on the door to the office. No one came to let me in, no note on the door. I called the main number (remember each time you call that number you have to wait about 10 minutes or more to get an operator). Finally, mystery solved, I had to go do the street to 4400 (I think) University (Huntsville, Alabama) to THAT office. There I had to wait about 10 minutes or more while I went through 2 people to get the rental charge taken off my account. Please put a notice on the office door at 4440 University to tell people to go to the other office!!!! I mentioned this to the manager at the REAL office. This location was fine I had a reservation at another location and I had the hardest time trying to get the code for the key box the person over the phone was NO HELP I am military and my license doesn't have a expiration date and she wasn't able to accommodate me like people have in the past she kept transferring me to different people without letting me know I was being transferred. I took a late lunch to pick up a tow dolly. It took a LOT longer than I anticipated because there was only 1 employee. This wasn't her fault but it is definitely a customer service issue. The U-haul reservation experience is a nightmare. It needs an overhaul. My expectation from making an online reservation at a specific U-haul location is that the equipment that I reserve will be available at the location where I make the reservation. Otherwise what's the point of showing a specific address? When you reserve a car for pickup at the airport you don't expect to have to drive to another location to pick it up. U-haul please fix your reservation system instead of having the customer call ahead to see if the equipment is going to be available at that location.Daniel L.

The only problem we had was we were supposed to pickup van in Decatur and prior customer did not bring it back so they sent us to Huntsville to pick one up. When we picked it up in Huntsville we were not aware until pickup that we would not be able to return in Decatur. So after use. which consisted of driving through Huntsville to Decatur, we had to drop off furniture and then drive back to Huntsville to drop the van off. Leaving us with approximately 30 extra miles we had to pay for. The attendant apologized and told us since it was not our fault to call the 1-800 number and the probably would give a credit. and the answer 24 hrs. I have called 4 times was on hold for an extended period and then was hung up on by the computer!!!!billy L.
1-I reserved at a location in Madison and was required to drive 10 miles further into Huntsville to pick up the vehicle, costing me 20 miles extra in mileage 2-I filled the tank back up to where it was before I rented, even turning on the key to double check - but I was charged $8.50 for extra gas when I returned it. I asked why and got no answer. Won't go there again to rent.Richard H.

I had to use my blower to clean out the back. And. There was a 38 bullet in the driver door storage area. Unspent cartridge. The driver and passenger areas needed a simple cleaning. They were not clean. The brakes squealed At every stop. Van did what it was supposed to do. A little maintenance would go along wayMichael T.

The guy who set me up with the trailer I rented was great. Courteous, helpful, zero problems there. The trailer itself was a 6x12. It evidently hasn't seen maintenance in ages, as the rod to the brake master cylinder was rusted up and the brakes didn't appear to work - the truck was doing all the stopping. The location itself is horrible, owing to the fact that there is almost zero parking lot. When I returned the trailer before they opened, there wasn't enough room to back it into a parking spot. I ended up having to remove it from the truck, and push it where I needed it to go. It rolled back and forth OK, but getting it to turn was really hard. I'd recommend getting UHaul equipment somewhere else, because this location isn't really set up for it.TIMOTHY O.
My experience was not good at all, When I made my reservations I ask could I pay by cash I was told yes, but I had to use a credit card to hold the truck,I get there and was told l need a $100 to hold until I return the truck which was not told to me the day I reserved the truck,after I returned the truck I was told gas was $8.50 and $22 for the mileage which I was told .99 cents a mile I didn't go over 15 miles I went from university dr to Jones valley and back,the guy told me I may not be able to pay with cash by this my bill is $53.52 my card had already been charged $31.72 the truck I had was $19.95 I will never use Uhaul again.elayne S.

Clearly advertise that the one month free rental storage is a one time event. I was looking forward to saving money in August, I was told on multiple occasions that the truck rental would provide a free month, only to learn after renting the truck that it was a one time deal.Ronald K.

I made a reservation about 5 days in advance for another uhaul location. When I received my email/text confirmation and found out that it was for this location, I called to confirm. I arrived right at 7am on Saturday and was told by the employee (I do know his name as it is on my agreement, but I will withhold it) that he sees my reservation, but he didn't have a truck for me. After I told him that I had confirmed, his reply was that "it happens sometimes". I found this to be completely unacceptable. After asking him what could be done, he remained silent and flustered for several minutes working on the computer. He then told me that he does have a truck but it has to be returned. I asked him what that meant (as I was unsure of the context). His response was to point to a truck out the window and tell me that he had only been open for a few minutes. I couldn't believe how he was acting. My dad was with me through this scenario and we were both pretty unimpressed. The employee ended up checking in a truck from a previous rental. It was very dirty on the inside which had been disclosed, but we were able to get on with our move which was the goal but seriously started off on the wrong foot. Uhaul's overall rental process seems a little unorganized as I had originally rented from a closer, more convenient location and then got bumped to this location due to availability. I would not have minded this at all had our encounter with this employee been a little more pleasant. I worked in customer service for years, so I get that it can be stressful, and that 7am is early, but our pickup experience was absolutely the worst. I will say that the lady that handled our return in the afternoon was very nice and made returning it very easy. Wish she had been there in the morning. It's not likely that I will be recommending this location. I did decide to write this though because managers do need to know how their employees treat their customers. Hopefully management will see this.LuAnn P.
This location has no easy way to access it. Also the little boy that was working there was rude and acted like his job gave him some form authority. I'll drive 10 miles out of the way to go somewhere different next if I even use uhaul again. I'll probably go with Penske honestly.spencer L.

I made the reservation and received the confirmation for the 4400 University Dr. & Putnam location, but when I arrived they said my rental was at the 4440 University location. We had to find a new location in Huntsville as the location provided by pick up location was not open and very inconvenient. Individual was very helpful. Modified contract and received trailer. â€"â€"â€"â€"â€" Equipment - is reliabale and consistent. Pricing - one way drop off is rediculoualy high. I understand such drop of fees, but when local fee is estimated at $20 and you charge $30 for a drop it's excessive. Future use or referral - likely to shop around and tell friends to do the same.ben W.
