Sign says stay in your equipment and wait for assistance. I pulled up and waited and waited. Finally saw someone come out w another customer ( presumably) help them to their car and watch them leave. Looked over and saw me but went inside w no acknowledgement. I waited a little longer assuming maybe they would come back out or it was busy inside. No one came out so I went inside. There were 2 employees no customers. I asked if someone was going to come out and they said they were busy but would shortly. So I waited and waited. Finally went back in and asked if I could take the trailer ( large 2 axle) and they said yes. I dropped it in the driveway and went in to get bc a signature that I had dropped it. Employee Stephanie said they can't sign for it without going out.but bthat would be a bit. I was annoyed and asked for their names, the guy refused to give his and Stephanie did hit magically she was ok signing that I had dropped it off. The van smelled so much like cigarette smoke my fiancÃ©e and I got migraines. It was unbearable, but we had no choice but to complete what we were doing. If I had the opportunity to cancel and receive a refund I would have. I'm a frequent customer at this location and have had issues every time lately. Friendly check in and check out agents were a welcomed relief. Very easy process to walk in without a reservation ahead of an incoming hurricane and rent a truck, process was simple. Check in was too easy, greeted once again as a valued customer, returned the truck and received email receipt etc in a timely manner. The gentleman that set us up with our storage unit was thorough and complete information and help straighten out issue on computer took the time and patience and got it right thank you.james p. | First Impressions
The van did not have the blankets I reserved. It was a different van with a different license plate number and more damage than the van I was asked to confirm in the walk-around photos. The van had a burned out turn signal bulb and I had to have U-Haul Roadside Assistance come out to service it because I could not drive safely or legally without properly functioning turn signals. When I was peacefully reading over the contract at the time of rental, a woman who appeared to be on drugs flew into a rage and attempted to assault me and screamed at me. The lobby also was filled with the smell of marijuana. Management should have enough control over the place to be able to eject violent people and people who reek of drugs from the premises, and should have more control over the fleet of vans, the equipment that does or does not get loaded onto the van, and the actual van that gets delivered to the customer. Management should also have control over whether or not the vans have been serviced and are actually legal and safe to drive. A customer should never be treated that way in a U-Haul facility and should never have to defend themselves against a van that has a different license plate number and is clearly a different van than the one in the walk-around photos. I checked in online and still waited an hour for service, and this U-Haul location was an extremely unsafe, hostile environment. I did not feel safe there at all. I also paid good money for a problematic vehicle and I got treated very poorly in this location. U-Haul should be embarrassed for charging me. It's a dangerous place. I don't trust them, and for very good reasons. I will never go back.Ruby A.

I had to get the key from inside and wait for someone anyway - removing the value of self-service through the app. Then the truck was actually in a different spot on the lot, and I had to go find it by the serial number walking around the lot for the one that matched my key, meaning that my approval of the damage before moving the truck was not actually the right truck, but it was too late to go back and check it. If you have a question and call the store you will be on hold for at least 30 - 45 minutes. I had an old and valuable antique oriental rug in storage. I recently moved into a larger dwelling and when I unrolled the rug there were larvae all over and a great deal of the rug was damaged, possibly destroyed. This was a family heirloom that apart from monetary value, had great sentimental value to me. I'm heartbroken this beautiful reminder of the home I grew up in and 3 subsequent homes of my own is so damaged. There was a reservation error. The centralized reservation system gave me lockers that didn't exist at this location . I had a lot of stuff. The Tropicana staff worked fabulously with me during a very stressful time and gave me everything they had for space. The manager, James Beck, made things very reasonable in terms of cost adjustment. After being a loyal customer for nearly two years they decided to increase my rate, even though they still advertise and offer the same rate to people who are currently signing up. So they basically try to squeeze more money out of customers who have been there a long time, but continue to offer the same size unit to new customers for the price I had paid all along. I guess they are banking on customers being too lazy to move out. I called and left a message asking to discuss the issue with management and he never even took the time to return my call. Apparently U-haul is more interested in short-term profit than brand/customer loyalty. I found a very nice, brand new storage unit nearly twice the size (10x15) less than a mile away for basically the same price I had been paying U-haul. I may have no choice but to use the services of u-haul at some point in the future depending on where I am, but I can certainly tell you that it will never again be my first choice. I will shop around and likely pay more for a competitor's services if they are available before I ever resort to using U-haul again because I don't want to support a business whose business model is designed to "reward" customer loyalty with predatory practices.joshua m. | Overall Experience

We received two one month rentals after moving to the area but were told that we could only use one of those months because the first month would make us a customer voiding the second month. After finally agreeing to use one month we went after store hours to pick up some items from our storage only to find that there was a staff lock on our door with a sticker stating we were being locked out of our unit due to failure to pay. This was only 2 weeks after setting up everything with the one month free! When the staff put that lock on they put a second sticker on our lock, stating that it was an invalid lock yet it was the same style lock that the staff used to lock us out. At no point during any of this were we informed that the lock used to secure our belongings had to meet specific criteria. We were also never informed that we had been locked out of our belongings unit arriving after hours only to find we couldn't get in. As a result we were forced to make a last minute scramble to empty our belongings from the unit before the month ended.Carrie H. | Overall Experience
We have that unit for approximately seven years and never had any significant problems. We needed to downsize and there was not a smaller unit available at this facility so we had to go elsewhere.
