First - I picked up a trailer to go from Phoenix, AZ to Cincinnati, OH one-way. The trailer was fine and performed well the entire trip. My problem was with the hitch installation at this site. I had set the appointment and ordered the hitch nearly two weeks before I arrived in Phoenix. When I arrived at my 9 A.M. appointment, they didn't have the hitch, but said that it was tracking for delivery via FedEx between 11 AM and 1 PM. I said to give me a call when it got there. No call. I went back at 3 PM to find out if the hitch was there. Why didn't I call? Because the recording said that the wait to answer the call was 20+ minutes. I could drive there faster than that, even in Phoenix. The hitch had arrived, and they installed it by 5:30 PM. On my trip while getting gas in Ft. Smith, AR, I hitch had sagged on the driver's side. I immediately drove to the dealer in town where they said the nuts had fallen off and a bolt or two were gone. They did the repair and I was on my way an hour or so later. I rated this experience as Below Average instead of Poor, because the trailer was fine, but the hitch installation was almost disastrous.John A.

We rented a 4 x8. The cost was over $450 on April 5, 2021. This cost was over 200% higher since we rented a 5 x 9 in October 2020. This rent certainly is price gouging and no reason for that cost. Please review your cost schedule and make it reasonable for travelers.PAUL E.

When returning the equipment I was met outside and they checked it in two hours prior to my due time. I was supposed to get an email confirmation and didn't so on Easter Sunday was going to go back after church and had a message waiting from a different location (67th Avenue and Bell Road) that I needed to return it before 5PM and will be charged a prorated amount. I called and told them I returned it to the Surprise office per my contract and they forwarded me to that location, after 20 minutes on hold I drove over and they said sometimes the hand held device missed sending and they worked on the computer to fix it. When I got home I checked again and still no confirmation so I went back and she tried again and I got it that time but now it looks like I've been charged the prorated amount for an extra day that was entirely there fault and I'm not happy about that.JEROME K.

Nobody really seemed to know what they were doing at this location. Seen several employees just standing around not doing anything and the one employee that was actually helping the lobby full of customers didn't have a clue what he was doing it was like he just started but had nobody there training him. They also have a sign up that says all 1 way trailers qualify for 50% off but the kid behind the counter refused to honor it even tho I was taking a trailer one way. The people we dealt with were great once we got to them. We found that the store is very understaffed and that wait times were ver unacceptable, especially when trying to call. My wife was on hold for 35 minutes until someone could talk to her. We just wanted folks at the store to know that we would be late getting the trailer back. Better maintenance on trucks. Within a couple of miles after leaving the site the oil light came on so I had to immediately stop and add oil, which cost me time and $6, which was not compensated.LINDA E.

Although my rental ran good it is still a beater. It has a major dent on one side, big dings and scratches all over it and the windshield has big stone chips of which one is interfering with the driver's view. This vehicle should not have been in service because of the windshield.Lester T.

I made 2 visits to this site over a 1 week period; first to reserve a truck and later to actually pick-up the rental. Each visit took over 30 minutes just to get waited on. Lines were long and slow moving. Not what I expect from a professionally run operation.DAVID L.

No employees were wearing masks or practicing CDC social distancing when I made reservations, bought boxes, checked it out, picked up blankets, and when I returned the van & blankets. They must be saving money on paper, because they emailed me receipts. I chose the extra $10 accident waiver, and their system insisted that I also pay $5 for SAFE TRIP, which I had to explain to the employee, twice, that I didn't want the $5 SAFE TRIP. I picked up the van the night before so we could get an early start and they changed the miles rate from $.59/mi to $.69/mi. I asked for a FORD van but got a CHEVY van. The windshield was so filthy with baked on smashed bugs, that it took 15 minutes with scrubbers & chemicals to clean it enough to drive safely into the rising sun. The inside of the windshield had apparently not been cleaned in months. The mirrors were apparently sloshed with a dirty rag. I returned it at 2PM, was promised an email receipt, I called the next day, I was put in the queue, I went to online website, I sent them an email, I did the CHAT, and the "chatter" sent my email receipt. The CHEVY was a real gas hog.GERALD N.
I returned the vehicle at my final destination with exactly how much fuel was in it when I picked it up. I was told I owed over $23 more because the tank was not full! It was not full when I picked it up. I paid over $6000 for two trucks and a trailer to move across the country and you felt you needed to nab me for $23 more dollars that you absolutely were not entitled to. It is my fault for not looking closer at the contract but shame on you, for not being honest!Kristin F.

I also had a storage unit and they discovered that I had left a couple of items and made sure that I got them. Need more staff to man the desk and vehicle check in. Picking up and dropping there was only 1 person on the desk and the line was very long. When dropping off vehicle there wasn't anyone to check it in and when somebody did show up, they didn't email the receipt so had to come back and wait in a long line to get one printed. I got there at 805am to drop off my rental. One person acknowledged me when i got there and said he would be with me in a few minutes. I never saw him or anyone else after that. I waited in the truck rental return line for about 15 minutes. I could no longer wait because i had to be at work at 830. So i walked in handed the keys to a person behind the counter and left. I called the location about 18 times through out the day. Most of the time no one answered and the few times someone did answer, they would put me on hold indefinitely and never get back to me. I've been actively using uhaul for the last 2 years. This is by far the worst experience I've had.ELIAH G.

my initial impression with this store & I am very familiar with it because I rent there several times a month, the young lady behind the counter seemed to me to be needing additional training in searching & finding rental equipment for customer...she also needed help behind the counter...the office appearred short staff & there were additionally five people behind me...trying to save a few dollars on staffing at the expense of the customer will come back at operations of the store....I was prepared to go to another location to find with I was looking for...CHARLES M.

My rental started well, Quickly lining up rental, right trailer, helpful employee. Brought the trailer back to same location, same day, and on my way home my banking app told me they had charged my card another $216! Called customer service, they left message for manager the next morning after telling me I had returned the trailer to the wrong location. Got to be honest, the vehicle was not horribly dirty, it was vacuumed etc but the windshield was probably not cleaned in a month or two. It was filthy. As far as customer service inside it was polite enough but it was not a service with a smile. Hate to use that phrase but I was made to wait a considerable amount of time. Employe walked by me twice and never even said hello or we will be right with you... it just wasn't a great experience... I don't want to go as far as saying that I would not recommend this location because the place did its job and I accomplished my goal for the day but it simply was not a good experience for me personally.Derek O.
Sloppy work by the employees. The digital inspection sent to my phone had the wrong vehicle for me to approve. Wasn't even the same size as the one I contracted for. They failed to provide the appliance dolly I rented. I had to go back and ask for it. The odometer reading on the contract was wrong. They attempted to charge me for 15 extra miles. I lost a day of moving help because the elevator had operating issues. The 'manager' said the next day that it was working, but when i tried, it was not. Turns out she lied when she said a repairman came out and it was fixed. Another person said no one was called to come out and repair it. I was sold 2 locks for both units, then found out there was already a lock in each unit, but still charged me for the ones i didnt need. Only 1 elevator for the size of this location is ludicrous. The general manager was phenomenal! After having a bad experience at the location in Laveen earlier in the day, I wasn't sure what to expect. She made the experience of returning the trailer we had rented in Detroit and accessing our free 30-day storage unit there a very pleasant experience. After making online reservation, original unit assignment was 2086 and was locked and unavailable for use upon arrival. Had to be reassigned to another unit, 1119. I went to the Uhaul office in Surprise on June 14th. The young man sold me a lock and did not tell me to put it on immediately.He did not have me sign a contract, I recived a call from Jennifer regarding the contract. I said I would be in to sign. I never can get thru to the Surprise office. Sat 6=27 another call from Jennifer wanting to know if I had moved out, I hadn't even moved in. Because I did not put my lock on the leased the unit to someone else. So I spent another hour getting a different unit rented and locked up. I feel the service was very poor until I talked with Jennifer face to face. I now have a unit and we are moving items in on Thursday. Your phone service is terrible, Put on hold forever and then you don't talk to who called you and they person you do talk to does not know what they problem is. This has not been a good experience. We were charged for a month's rental and we moved out only a few days into that month's fees. We asked for a pro-rated return and were told they don't do that, call customer service and see what they'll do. We were customers for several years and apparently this is meaningless to U Haul, so should we ever need storage again we WILL NOT use U Haul ever again.
