If I could give this U-Haul store (and the overall corporatation) zero or negative stars, I would. My wife and I were renting a 5x8 trailer to move from Arizona to Illinois and used this store for our pickup. When we arrived to pick up the trailer we reserved, it was missing equipment. They transferred us to a second trailer that we took and loaded. After loading, we noticed a 4 inch difference between the left and right suspension and called at 3 pm to have roadside assistance dispatched to double check the trailer, as we knew we had our weight distributed correctly. Roadside assistance arrived at 4 pm, looked at the contents of the trailer, and confirmed that we had correctly loaded our belongings and began troubleshooting. Come to find out, the store had given us a trailer that had 3 of the 5 suspension springs broken in half. A trailer that should have been flagged somewhere in their system as unusable and dangerous to tow. Roadside assistance tried to solve the issue with U-Haul and offered to go pick up a new trailer, help us switch the trailers, transfer our belongings, and return the broken trailer. U-Haul declined his offer, which was the most feasible solution. After roadside assistance left, we began a battle with U-Haul. Their solution was for us to drive 25 minutes with the broken, loaded trailer attached to our car that was unsafe and unable to drive. After we told them that was not an option, they hung up on our next 5 calls. 20 more calls and countless transfers later, we were put in contact with an employee named Jodi. Jodi was the only good thing that came out of this entire situation. She did everything within her power to help and was trying to pull managers from any department to escalate our case because it is now 6 pm, we do not have a drivable trailer, we have to leave in 12 hours, and all U-Haul store are closing in an hour. We were finally called by an employee named Cierra, who seemed promising. She assured us she was taking over our case and was working to find a solution and would be calling us back with a game plan in 15 minutes. An hour later, Cierra still had not contacted us back, but a tow truck had arrived who had as much information on what to do as we did, which was none. After multiple more calls, transfers, and a 30 minute hold, we finally were put in touch with another employee named Martha. Martha informed us that Cierra had left and told no one that our case needed attention. She then was finally able to find out that another U-Haul store had set an alternate trailer outside of the store before closing. Luckily, we had a very compassionate independent tow truck driver who helped us more than the 30+ people we spoke to at U-Haul. He towed the broken trailer to the store, hooked the new trailer up to our vehicle, and stayed with us to ensure our safety as U-Haul had put us in another unsafe position at this new store which was a pitch black parking lot lacking any kind of street lights in a bad area of town. The tow driver even helped us transfer all of our belongings to the new trailer at 9 pm. Needless to say that I am incredibly disappointed and dissatisfied with U-Haul as a whole and will never use the company again. Thankfully, we were more attentive than the U-Haul employee that hooked the original trailer to us, because we would not have survived the drive through the Arizona mountains with the condition of the broken trailer.

She attended to fraudulently manipulate me into bringing the trailer to her location instead by saying I would be subject to a $40 per day late fee unless I took it to her (she would waive it). my paperwork disproved her lies and said if it were to be late the fee is only $20 per day. By the way, I brought it back 3 days early because of her attempted deception so I didn’t even get the full use of the trailer. I’m not sure how the Chandler location retrieved my rental information & phone number but it felt VERY SCAMMY. Definitely unprofessional.

The bathroom continues to get used by people who are not renters. I think they need to put an access on that door in the main building in a they have an access, but not a B and I really wish they would do that. Many times I go to the bathroom and it’s just disgusting from homeless people going in there and just completely destroying it with filth in grossness other than that my experience has been pretty well and I would’ve given it excellent but this last move from one unit to another has been challenged with wrong access codes and just things not working correctly or telling me that I have a month of service for free and then charging my card the same day for the full amount which I do not give access because one card I use for business and one I use for personal and this is a business unit not personal

During my 1 year stay I upgraded to a larger unit (the size I originally thought I was getting that increased my monthly rent. About 6 months after that the storage rent increased. The reason I decided to move is because the storage rent was Increasing again. I sent an email requesting my rent stay the same as it had just increased. I did not get an response to that email only a bill stating I needed to pay my rent early if I wanted to pay the same amount for the current month as the new rate would be in effect if I paid on time.

And the biggest frustration was that when I did need to call and want to talk with someone at the facility, 9 times out of 10 they wouldn't answer the phone. It would flip to a general uhaul answering service. I wouldn't need someone at the general uhaul number. I needed to talk with someone at the facility. A lot of times my card wouldn't allow us in after office hours. Yet no one would answer the phone at the number provided to call with after hour concerns. This isn't the first uhaul facility I've stored my things at. But by far the least receptive to customer needs. Otherwise, my needs were met.

Everything was so easy to find and setup. I wish I could say the same about my visit to the store. I think the person who helped me was new or they were having a bad day. I wasn't greeted and I didn't feel welcomed. I explained why I was at the store, I was asked for my name and then I just stood there while she worked on it. There was a lot of awkward silence. I asked if everything was okay and she said yes and kept going. I got the vibe she might be having a bad day. I had the order number, to help finding my order. I kept offering it when nobody could find both of my orders. I had proof of all of this. I didn't know what was going on. This was frustrating. Another gentleman came to help the woman who was helping me. Apparently they wanted a 3rd contact phone number but weren't conveying the message to me. After a few minutes of trying to figure out what they were speaking about, I figured out they wanted a 3rd phone number, so i have then my mother in law's number and address. Why wasn't I asked for this online? What i really didn't like was that if I didn't provide this 3rd contact, i wouldnt be allowed to rent the unit. That needs to change! I almost walked out of your store. This next part was not their fault, but the system went down during all of this. I checked on my phone if your website was experiencing this, and yes, it had effected that too. I would've understood if I had been told something was a miss with the system. I happen to overhear the employees talking that the system was down, that's why I checked. The store didn't have the lock I ordered, so they gave me another one. Until I got out of store and was almost to my car. Someone found the lock type I had ordered. I gladly exchanged locks and went on my way. I've worked customer service for many years and I wasn't happy with the way I was treated. But I was also in a rush because I had to go to work. I could've been a bit more pleasant. I work at Chase Field and I still had to go home, get dressed and drive a half hour to downtown Phoenix. I just wanted to leave because I had to get to work. I still thanked everyone anyways when I left because they still helped me. I'm not mad and I have no reason to slander anyone. I don't want anyone fired! With all this stuff going on in the world, i don't want someone to lose their job over me. Give them another chance to make it right. I think they deserve another chance. This is how I recall my visit and unfortunately, my experience wasn't pleasant. I hope this can become a coaching experience for everyone involved and I hope that this would improve the customer service in the future, as I am now your customer with a storage unit. For how long will be determined by the level of customer service I recieve going forward.

My dad drove the truck all the way from Georgia to Arizona and had to listen to the loose bumper flapping in the wind the whole entire way. When l mentioned it to the manager at the Gilbert Road location she didn't seem to care or want to take any responsibility for it. 😡 Otherwise the Uhaul storage unit on Gilbert Road is a nice place. Clean and orderly. I just didn't appreciate Uhaul giving us a busted up truck to drive across the country in. That was NOT COOL!!

What is the correct hours? I was also told that there were 2 alarms for the unit, one at the door of the building and one on the unit it's self. After several minutes looking around a inside the unit I realized that that was some more incorrect information that I had been given. This place is not impressive.

They all walk (miserably slow) and can easily tell they hate their jobs. I’d recommend this place because it is clean, close to my home, and easily accessible (kind of). I wouldn’t recommend even attempting to talk to staff, carrying large things through doors that don’t work, or paying for a full month when you plan to leave earlier.

Bonita G | Overall ExperienceThere are some homeless people living in there because they have a unit, they showed me their card. The guy and gal were in the bathroom for long periods of time. I observed this twice and when I asked them from outside the bathroom to please come out, that I needed to use the facilities, they stayed in for another half hour. I had to put all items that I was rearranging in the storage back in and lock it, then go to the front office to use theirs. Anyone can enter thru the doors and I also saw a man, twice come to check what there was in the area where you can pick up items that people don't want. I don't think he had a unit. You should really review your policy for entrance into the storage buildings. It is a security problem and it worried me that my storage would be broken into. I did get into a verbal confrontation with the male homeless guy. I brought up this problem with the front office and they said that they were going to monitor it and take care of the problem. I would definitely rent vehicles from them again as I really liked the people working there. Especially Jack, who came to my rescue when I confronted the homeless man.

She said, "No problem, we do that all the time." By the time the POD arrived, Misty had gone home and another employee informed us that the POD had to be picked up that day. That employee then called Misty at home and was told that Misty never told us it would be ok to be picked up the next morning which was a bold faced lie. We had to cancel send the POD back and pay for another month of POD storage which is more than the unit at your facility would have cost us. It was the last day that I was available as I was going out of town for 6 weeks. We canceled the storage unit and are in the process of finding another storage facility. I would have preferred your location since it's close but I don't want to do business with people that lie to me. If I can get a free month on the unit I will consider renting a unit from your location. If not I will go elsewhere and since your facility is where I get my propane for my grill I will also take that business elsewhere.
