EVERYTHING!!!! Uhaul was a horrible experience from start to finish . Driver’s side door didn’t close properly, under half a tank but recorded half. A ten foot turned into a 15 foot to get one way , 3 different quotes on the price then I was told I had to return it back into the city how is that one way ? The person I spoke to where I was to return it at sage hill in Calgary was yelling at me and told me I would be responsible if anything happened if I didn’t return it to his place . This was an absolutely nightmare of an experience!!

Then we have a 50 dollar credit if referral which didn’t get applied the the amount Then we get a call your booked on the Saturday had to go to another location then we get told 100 deposit it’s 125 then we drive to Strathmore' to drop off unit and put extra gas in seems like reimbursements seem to be a problem look at what we did and why we didn’t get the 50 back She said it’s a computer well sorry not happy with that resaon we are human and should be paying for what we get.

The truck however had a check engine light and didn't run well and the seal was broken on the moving cart in the back and the moving blanket was missing. The fuel was also a little lower than than indicated on the agreement and the truck was dirty on the outside but clean on the inside. I reported this to the staff and they quickly and politely corrected everything except the check engine light. I had the truck just for in city use so the engine that was fumbling a bit was not an issue for me.

Ken TownleyEverything was great! The ladies that helped inside were super friendly and helpful!! The guys that helped hook the trailer in the morning were very helpful and friendly! However, the guy that helped me off-load the trailer was not friendly at all and acted as if he was doing me a favour to unhook the trailer. The trailer was not 100% straight when I reversed, and he kept insisting that I make it completely straight and then gave me attitude to move my car forward when he lifted the trailer off my car. I will come back to this location purely because of the service I received from everyone else, but this one guy really needs to get his attitude checked!

The ridiculous price hike was just plain robbery BUT the staff at this location were the best we’ve encountered. The location was very well kept and even smells good. The staff were friendly, helpful and just fantastic. U-Haul should give them a treat and make sure to show value to their employees if not for their customers.

If you don’t have access to a car you can always grab the transit it goes to the train station or 32 Ave where you can transfer to another bus. I have been using this location for a while and Bliss and her team have always been top notch for me, they always find a resolution for my storage or vehicle. Robert Grant | Overall ExperienceThe facility itself seemed to be fairly decent. However, there seems to be lack of communication and organization. I rented one unit online, however when I went to go secure it the next morning I was told that it was no longer available due to a leak. They attempted to put me into a slightly smaller one, but upon opening that one it was full of items, so they offered me 2 smaller ones instead. It was very unorganized, and poor planning on their part. The staff did their best to try to fix the situation, it is just unfortunate that I wasn't able to get what I originally wanted, had to purchase more then one lock, and now have 2 smaller units instead of one big one.

Shannon FARGUSON | Overall ExperienceThe vehicle was rented to me with less than 1/4 tank, closer to 1/8 really. This was very unprofessional and made me need to stop and fill up the tank almost immediately. Why not just rent out the equipment full and then expect it to be returned full, rather than needing to guess/plan to run the gas down to some random level. I left more gas in it than it had when I got it, so you’re welcome. But if I had been under the amount, you would have charged me more than the gas is worth. Happy that I was able to take it one way from Calgary to Abbotsford after having multiple flights cancelled. Pleased that it had legitimate mountain/snowflake tires on it as well, and it handled fine through the mountain passes on packed snow/ice. The gas thing was just a real bummer and left a bad taste about the experience. I talked to the lady at the Aldergrove return location, and she said they would never leave a vehicle under half, so it may just be a Calgary location issue. Also, I nearly forgot, when I made my original booking over the phone, I showed up to the location, paid my Uber driver to take me from the airport to the rental location, online it said they were open, and uhaul confirmed that it was available and open, but when I got to the location they were closed. Their sign said they were open, but the door was locked and nobody was inside. No one answered the phone. I had to call uhaul back and they had to quickly find me a new location to pick up a truck from, which they did, and I was happy with that aspect of it, but I had to pay for a second ride to a different uhaul location to pick up the truck. The lady over the phone was nice and said she would give me a $50 credit for the inconvenience, so that covered my rides, but still, just disappointed with the process. We were trying to get home after my grandmas funeral and the airline had cancelled and bumped multiple of our flights, and lost our bags, unable to get through to them to cancel our new flights, it was just such an ordeal, so the uhaul stuff not working out originally felt like “here we go again”. Also, I’m not sure how/why it was required to be a 4 day rental, but if I returned it early I don’t get any money back. It only takes one day to drive from Calgary to Abbotsford. Also, if I have it for the 4 days, why was Uhaul sending me a text message today saying other families are looking to book the equipment that I have, when will you be returning it. If you rent it out again during the time I could have had it, how is that fair to the customer, you’re collecting two rentals on the same van. It made me want to keep the van until the end of the rental just on principle. At the end of the day, it all ended up working out and we got home.
Eric OlsonOverall no problems with this storage facility. I had a month free and got everything done by then. Annoying that the units door keeps slowly lowering and there is no mechanism to hold it up, can bend a bit of the metal at the top to hold it in place.

Rhonda WolfeTo be honest, the equipments are clean and the employees are professional. The service is excellent but some equipments need to be look at seriously. Some of the vehicles do not accelerate while entering the highway or changing the lanes. Some of the equipments have switching issues like heating and ac switcher do not work. They only work on high numbers.
Nasreldin GumaThe truck USB was out of its frame. The truck was completely empty of washer fluid and staff were untrained or unwilling to rectify the issue. When they attempted to they offered summer washer fluid in below-freezing conditions. My planned route was also to go through the rockie mountains. they then offered me a different truck with summer tires.

Got doubled charged on Oct. 26th spoke to staff members at that location and asked if I had to pay for the whole month because I only used 5 days, told me I would be refunded just had to confirm with manager. But, manager was on lunch. Asked if it was ok to leave and they would handle it and requested an email. Was told, no problem. No email received until end of November and only 1 refund showing on my credit card statement of that double charge. Emailed credit department to enquire about other refund, NO RESPONSE.

Darlene SimonI was charged an additional fee because your app would not work. I followed all instructions, however the app would recognize my location (location was On for my phone). The app just continued to try to find the location. This went on for 15 minutes. I took several screen shots while this was happening. So now, I have to pay extra for something that was no fault of mine. Your app is ridiculous, and unnecessary to complete the drop off process. The staff, facilities, and vehicle were great. Your bullshit app, and making me download that foolishness to complete the drop off was/is horrible, and in general just a stupid idea on the part of your company. Especially at 2 am, when it doesn't work and there's no help around. Just a way for your company to gouge extra money outta people at no fault of their own. Nice scam if you ask me, tack on some bs charges because you have to use an app, and it doesn't even work properly.

The same staff member claimed we couldn't pay with cash for the rental truck when we did our estimate for the move. Later upon returning the truck, I expressed my frustration to new staff & Bliss the manager, they laughed & said of course you can pay cash but said they couldn't reverse it even though they were already refunding the debit for mileage. It was a very disappointing experience! Until then, we had been impressed with the service.

NIRAJ SINGH | First ImpressionsThe business seems understaffed. Some customers were waiting over an hour in line to speak with a front desk representative. Once I met with a front desk agent it took 45 minutes for an agent to check me in and set me up with a storage unit that I reserved. I did arrive one day before the reservation was set to start but that is still a long process. I thought the process would’ve been quicker. In the end I was set up with a unit that was smaller than the one I reserved. Luckily all of my items fit. In the app it also shows my reservation and then a new unit on the account which is odd. I also had a truck and trailer to return which I received minimal help with despite asking for help and clarification from staff on how to do a return. It turned out I had to return the truck at crossroads gas plus. One agent helped me take the trailer off the truck but no one confirmed it was the correct location. U-Haul deerfoot was the wrong location as it turned out and no one informed me of this until I called the U-Haul number after hours.

Leigh Goddard | First ImpressionsAs far as the actual storage facility goes, this place was excellent. It felt very secure and I was confident my things were kept safely and wouldn't be damaged. The key card was very troublesome and had a problem everytime I visited the storage unit which was frustrating to say the least. The access times also didn't seem to line up with what the poster said so that was frustrating too. Many times I visited, there were no trollies available at all which made things unnecessarily difficult. Finally, not necessarily a comment on regards to the storage facility itself, but consider putting music in the office area. It is extremely uncomfortable to stand in an entirely silent room.
Mark Macdonald | Overall ExperienceOnce we arrived in Calgary, we waited in line to return the truck. 20 minutes later, a U-Haul employee escorted us to the truck to check it over. He could barely speak or understand any english. He was a very pleasant person, but communication was quite difficult. Front line employees must be able to communicate in English. We always attempt to call the U-Haul closest to our location, but can never get them on the phone. It automatically transfers us to Arizona booking. Arizona does not know exactly what is going on in another location/country. We called ahead to book a cage for our couch but got transferred again to Arizona. When we got to the Calgary location, the staff said nothing was booked. This is after we stood in line for 40 minutes. The staff, Dornan, was great, but when we walked up to our cage, there was a lock on it. So we walked down stairs, again, and stood in line for another 30 minutes to get the staff to walk up to the cage and unlock it. By the time we finally got our couch moved to the 2nd floor cage and checked in our rental truck, it was 2 hours. We have always used U-haul in the past, but this was frustrating to say the least. The staff in Calgary were good, but overloaded with customers with this huge location. Secondly, the location in Edmonton, where we picked up our truck rental did not clean the truck before we picked up. There was dog hair all over the cab. The interior windows were very dirty. Some of our furniture had black marks all over them, and we found it came from the metal floor inside the truck box. Is there anything U-haul can apply on the metal to prevent these black marks from occurring? We do use blankets on our stuff, but maybe the staff could rinse the truck box out every 5 rentals or so. Anyway, the booking of the truck was good as the booker found us the closest location to our move, which was great . Thirdly, I gave my credit card to Satch, the U-haul operator in Edmonton. It was busy in the office and he did not give me the card back and I forgot to ask, as he was trying to assist 3 people at once. I left with the rental and drove to Calgary. The U-haul worker had both my phone numbers, but did not call me to inform me of my left credit card. He had my card for 4 days. After I call the Edmonton office and again got transferred to Arizona, they call Edmonton and found that he had my card. Why would he not call me the minute he found my credit card on his desk?? I cancelled my card out of fear of being lost. Most of my rentals have gone on without any issues, but this was a little much. thanks. Mike and family

I will not be able to fit all of my stuff and that's disappointing. It's made it difficult to get the move done time-wise. I understand things don't always turn out the way we expect, so I'm taking it in stride. The free month helped ease the pain, it's appreciated and I will continue to use U-Haul.

After i unloaded the truck found out i hadn’t ordered a big enough unit so i had to leve my box spring leaning against my unit door. The following day i asked if i could get a bigger unit. They never had one bigger available but they managed to get me another unit for the rest of my stuff for free. I dont plan on stayin longer then a month so thanks for that.
Justin David | Online Move InI was trying to move out the upper level and had a few large items to take to the dock While doing so your staff locked the large sliding doors 20 mins before 7pm. They were more interested in going home than meeting your customer needs We then had to use the service elevator to go down a floor then navigate through a number of corridors only to get our large items out through a man door. This would have been totally avoided if your staff maintained the your stated operating hours.
RIYAAZ DAWOOD | Overall ExperienceI wasn't ever able to reach this storage facility by phoning them. Luckily, when I called it would at least connect me to the 1 800 U-Haul line. The reps tried to have this storage facility contact me by sending them a message which I never received a call back. I would never store anything at this location again. When we moved out I couldn't even contact anyone to let them know we had left. Once again I was transferred to the 1800 U-Haul line when they didn't answer their phone. I explained we moved out that day (sept 1) and that our next bill date was Sept 2 and I wanted to ensure they didn't bill us for another month. The reps left notes on my account and yet still we were billed for another month and then sent an email telling us late charges had been applied. The GM is incompetent and I believe the place is understaffed considering they don't ever answer the phone.

I call the GM after the office hour number but went straight to voicemail, called support and tried to figure out why I can have access. after almost an hour of talking to the support and finally the gm called and told me that the access to the facility is based on the office hours which is till 5 pm because it is Sunday. but it is clearly stated that the access hours of the facility are 5 am-10 pm. According to the gm if I want to access the facility after office hours I need to request that, then you should have mentioned that when I checked in. very bad experience. I tried renting Public storage and Sentinel and I haven't gone into this kind of problem.

And they took me to find the lockers three times before they had it right because the system apparently shows lockers that aren’t there and are already taken. The storage area had a very confusing layout, and they didn’t tell me that the large sliding doors to unload would not be accessible after the office was closed, which I found out very inconveniently after I started to unload. I was also harassed 3 times by a few other clients to move my uhaul so they could get closer to the door while taking a short break from unloading which made my friend and I feel uncomfortable and rushed.

Unfortunately we got there just after office hours so we couldn’t get any help. Called U-hual customer service and they said it was probably a system error and we would have to try tomorrow. I tried calling and still have not heard back this morning yet because they are busy at the moment. We live in the middle of downtown and had the leave the U-hual parked there on the street overnight as we planned to unpack and drop of the uhual, our friends were there and ready to help us move and drive home but unfortunately they are not available any other time this week to help us unload and get home.
Ahmad Kabalan | Online Move InReason for the below average rating is due to from the start, I was given a storage unit number, I followed the map to the unit, it was a larger unit but also had a customers lock on it meaning it was already occupied. When you look on the provided maps on paper, on the walls in the facility and on the computer there are 3 units numbered improperly. I pressed a call button on the wall, was told they could not help at the time, this service system was extremely quiet so hearing the lady on the other end was difficult and added to my frustration as I needed to deliver the U-Haul truck back at 3pm and I had no place to put my things so I needed to place everything into the back loading entrance way and also with that create a pathway for other families that were going through at that time. I walked back to the service call request Centre by the loading dock, this one was easier to hear another lady, that said I needed to come to the front to get help… so again adding to my frustration as I was moving everything by myself and have things I wouldn’t want to get stollen… so I ran around the outside of the building from the back to the front, thankfully the lady I spoke to the second time was available, but now we had to walk back to the storage units to show here how they’re mislabeled and then we needed to walk back to the front… the unit is on the second floor and the office is on the first floor so again I’m thinking about all my things sitting by the loading dock in the back unattended with many other people coming and going. So my panic was heightened again, so we walk back, go through the map and sets me up in the unit next to the one I was assigned the first time, then we needed to walk back for her to remove the U-Haul lock. So this whole experience took over 45mins to resolve… now with the added issues from the 1hr it took to pickup the truck that I checked in online and the staff having computer issues while I was there in the morning, that’s 1hr45mins of wasted time. I do have to say the last lady to help me out with the storage unit was amazing, she was extremely helpful, I was just about done loading the storage unit, I believe she was walking through the facility with a new client and she stopped to ask how things were going. She needs to be promoted and a raise in pay as for her is the reason I would recommend this facility to friends and the reason why I also checked off friendly and helpful staff.

I tried accessing the space once on a Sunday afternoon, within the posted access hours, and I couldn't open the doors. 2. When I was moving couches out of my rented space, the freight elevator was not working. Why is there only one freight elevator for such a big facility? It also broke during a busy time as I saw a number of people hassled by the event. I asked the office if they would reimburse my Uhaul rental (from a different location) if I go over my time limit. The answer was a solid no. There was no accountability.

The only problems we had were once the overhead doors were not working so we had to load through the man door and it was pouring rain and windy and there were other people trying to do the same. The next time we went, the overhead doors were working again, thankfully. The second incident wasn’t the facility itself but some jerk brought his pit bull like dog and was unable to control it on a leash so it tried jumping into our vehicle and then came back sniffing around us and getting in our way. When we said something to the jerk (nice word for what he really is) he got pissy with us. It was all we could do to not kick his butt. There are signs saying no pets allowed, so apparently this jerk couldn’t read either.

Those extra couple hrs make a world of difference, freeing up Uhaul trucks for next load or for next customer. Other than that no other recommendation. This facility at Deerfoot is an absolute pleasure to deal with, exceptional management & exceptional staff-phenominal customer service even when super busy or the silly simple things! They truly understand the stresses moving creates & are SOOOO patient-even with rudest customers (which I personally witnessed!) & during equipment failure (ie bay doors & elevator breakdown)....they were on it to rectify immediately! THANK YOU DEERFOOT UHAUL & TO ALL STAFF FOR ALL YOU DO-truly service with a smile :))

In fact, they even did not inform me properly of the proper sign in and out procedure via the keypad. I lost a lot of faith in humanity that day, and I would whole fully NOT recommend U-Haul self storage units based soley on my experience with the staff alone. Everything worked out, but getting there seemed much more difficult and time-consuming than necessary.

Originally the office e people were not well trained. On my first couple of visits alarms were cksntantlu going off, lines were huge and staff was overwhelmed. They did not do something properly on my account and I was getting delinquent notices despite having left a credit card. It took a couple of trips to the office to fix it. I move a lot and have rented at least 10 lockers at different location of uhaul and with different companies . This was my worst experience. There was a change in manager and things have improved.

Only one access door and could only fit two maybe three customers for unloading or loading. Access door is only a man door so very narrow and difficult to move bigger items in and out.
Norman BRAUN | Overall ExperienceMake sure you give yourself extra time when coming to this facility. It’s uhaul. You come here because you have to not want to. The attitude of some of the staff reflects this. Expect the person helping you to have no idea what is happening. Make sure you advocate for yourself otherwise it’s not going to be a good time.

Karen Mah | Overall ExperienceI had reserved a 5x5 but realized on seeing it I needed a larger unit. The staff had no problem switching me to a 5x10. Only complaint is they didn't explain when giving me my access card about the check-in system.
Shea Vainio | First ImpressionsThe facility is understaffed, the access hours are still the same as working hours and more importantly, the only access door to the storage units is very narrow and small. There is no assigned parking spot in front of store for loading and unloading your stuff so you might need to park your truck in an odd spot further to the access door. Lots of staff turn around, making most of them unfamiliar with the job. I would not rent storage here again, as there are fully developed facilities with better prices.

The lack of online information indicating the facility was under renovation, the lack of follies, having access only through a door can a proper wide storage access, all were very u helpful. On the other hand, can’t say enough about the staff making up for all this.
steve coulombe | First ImpressionsThe staff at this location were fantastic to deal with. They worked hard to find a unit that would fit both our needs and budget. They took the time to help a first time storage unit renter figure out how to best utilize the space in the unit which allowed us to stay on budget. The units are clean, dollies available to assist moving items and supplies were in stock and reasonably priced right there saving us time and money. I would recommend this location for storage needs as well as all supplies. I have rented moving vehicles from uhaul in the past and we will again. Having our items that we move at the same location we can rent vehicles is extremely convenient and cost effective.
CFAR SOCIETY | First ImpressionsMy experience is rated based on the lady that was at the counter on Saturday evening June 11, her demeanor was awful, she was on her cell phone for most of the time and it made feel that I was too much of an inconvenient for her. This has been one of the poorest client experience I've ever had. This led me to comeback on Sunday morning to request cancellation of the rental unit. On the other hand the lady that was there Sunday was the total opposite, she was friendly and even acknowledge my concerns ( it seems she was aware of her peer behavior). She let me know she was going to process my refund and cancelled my contract. She should be commended for her great attitude. Regards, Ron Molina
Ronald Molina | Overall ExperienceNegative star rating only due to the fact that it is a new facility, and the staff are still in training. That said there was no manager present and so the staff had to call for help several times to get the rental done. We were told that due to limited space available we weren’t able to get the first month free promotion, however when we were taken to our unit they are almost all empty and not rented. We wanted 24 hour access and were told it’s not possible because the key cards aren’t working?? Overall not really impressed but needed the locker so went ahead with the rental.
