I had 2 units at this location (110 and 186). The first unit was broken into and I was never notified, even after the management placed their own lock on the unit. It was only when I went to access the unit and saw the lock had been changed was I told about the break in by another renter to which I then called the store in Durham to report and ask how to get into my unit. Two days after this my second unit was broken into and burglarized with losses over $700. I immediately contacted the general manager by phone and was given the claim contact at RepWest. From speaking to both Derrick the GM, and other employees and renters this property has been under attack from thieves for some time and Uhaul has yet to improve lighting, security or cameras which is ABSOLUTE NEGLIGENCE! In addition, they are not notifying renters of break ins to their units as soon as they become aware. I cannot believe that this is the business model that UHAUL has sunk to. Derrick and Rachel at the main Durham store that manage this property have been kind and responsive, and I feel sorry that they have to deal with this at work EVERY WEEK! You really need to take care of your customers better. Simple fix: add lighting, add more security cameras, do a daily sweep of property in the morning to check for break ins and communicate immediately to your customers! I will not recommend this location to anyone and I am considering contacting media to inform the public since no one wants to tell the current renters they are at risk. My unit was clean but there was no lock in the unit as described. With a delivery truck and $4k worth of furniture I opened the unit to find no lock. When I called the main store in Durham on Hwy 70 Matthew told me I should have checked for the lock before receiving a delivery, blaming me for your error. He told me to drive to the office to pick up a lock. I had to leave my unit unlocked, drive 15min to pickup a new lock. Rachel greeted me with a smile and was happy to help me get a lock. She apologized for the missing lock and Matthews comments. She told me that she would have the General Manager Derrick call me, but I haven't heard from him yet. I was inconvenienced and frustrated by the experience, but Rachel was the one positive note.Amy O. | Online Move In
This experience was horrendous. When we first got there the girl gave me such a nasty attitude that I asked if I had done something to her because I didn't understand what was going on. Then I got the 24 hour service (paid extra) and was locked out that night. When I call the after hours number that woman said she hasn't worked there in years. I had checked on my stuff a couple weeks later and they had a sign that stated that due to robberies we were only allowed entrance during certain hours but I was never notified and still charged the extra money for the 24 hour service. Got locked out again trying to get my stuff out of storage and still they haven't updated the after hours phone number. For years this was my go-to U-Haul location for truck rentals, packing materials and bulk propane. They are now a shell of their former selves. Now you can only rent trucks there using the online Truck Share 24/7. The amount of hoops you have to go through, not only picking up but in returning the truck, is ludicrous. You basically become the rental agent and renter. They are using very fidgety, crappy locks to gain access to the truck box and relock after use. I will look to another company at this point if this is the future of U-Haul.Greg M.

First of all, the Uhaul app sucks. I tried to return the van and was literally stuck on the second step of the return which requires uploading a photo of the mileage and fuel gauge. The app would not recognize that I was uploading a photo and repeatedly asked me to do it again. I tried calling the 800 number for assistance and it was going to be a 40-50 wait to speak with someone at 6:00 PM! Finally, I got frustrated and was looking for the key drop to just leave the key and I saw the sign on the gate that referenced uhaul.com/share for returns. Thankfully, the website would upload my photos and I was finally able to complete the return, but only after I wasted almost a half hour messing with the app. This experience does not make me want to rent from another unattended location again anytime soon. Also, I entered credit card info when I made the reservation, then had to confirm it again when I picked up the van and yet again when I returned it. Did I mention that the Uhaul app sucks?Gary S.

Truck Rental Reservation # 25848039 3rd time renting at this location (Commercial Ave), this last time was not great. Apparently they switched over to no staff at check-in/check out. Never communicated this when I made reservation. I had U-Haul corporate help me on the phone to check truck out with padlock code to gain key access in back of truck. Very helpful. When I went to return truck at 10:10 AM (it was due back at 10:30 AM), again no staff, so i just reversed the process how I picked it up (left key in back and locked truck with same padlock). I called U-Haul corporate at 10:15 AM to tell them how I returned it. Manager at this location still charged me an "After Hours Service Fee" of $20 for some reason. Wasn't expecting that. Not sure why they did it. I returned truck on time and told U-Haul by phone what I did. Not sure what I could do as no staff was there to help me check it in. Maybe cameras show me on the lot in my designated time? That's the only knock I had on this rental.Robert W.

I closed out both storage facilities online on 11/29, however you are still trying to bill me. Now, online one unit has been closed out and the other storage facility is showing past due even though i moved out both facilities on the same date. When returning the ride share the lockbox code displays for like 2 seconds and goes away. Which is not enough time to see it and use it. Very frustrating!!Suzanne T.
The experience was the worst I EVER had as I arrived and the truck was not there. The customer service rep called the person who still had the truck a â€œdoucheâ€ for not bringing the truck back on time and had an attitude me staying it's not his fault and there was nothing he could do about it. It was getting dark and the Justin then stated, It will be fineâ€¦. Despite me having to wait for a reservation that had not arrived and there being no alternatives. When the truck returned I was not given any documentation nor was the truck properly inspected. I have no indication of mileage or gas in writing. He then went on to say the location was closing when I asked for the corporate number to report this incident. I will NEVER use a Uhaul or store she facility again. I always paid my payments on time and should not be inconvenienced nor treated as if my frustration or time is not valid when I'm the one spending the money.SHANEA C.

The employee Brandon that works at the location I picked the uhaul up is probably the worst person I have ever encountered in customer service. I would really rethink that guy ever communicating with customers. He is very unprofessional and should be an embarrassment to uhaul. He called me to ask me if I could return tne uhaul at 5 when my reservation wasn't until 6:30 even though I picked it up at 7. He said he gets off at 5 and isn't going to stay until 6:30 so he can see if it needs to be cleaned. Then he was really rude when I asked for the reservation to be extended and told me I would have to pay $50 if I didn't have the truck back my 6:30 Saturday. I asked why I can't t extend the reservation especially since that is an option. He said the truck needs to go to someone else and if not they get a $50 guarantee and he wasn't going to pay it so I was. I asked for a manager and he told me to call the 800 number. I called and explained what was going on. I have vlicemail of him saying he gets off at 5 and needs me to return the truck early. The first lady was nice and said I shouldn't have to pay $50 if I want to extend. She transferred me to the regional office location and that lady was just as rude as Brandon as. She said I should be charged the $50, never apologized for Brandon's behavior and followed suite with it. She even told me I would be charged an additional day but had to bring it back by 6:30am. I asked why 6:30 am if I'm paying for another day shouldn't it be 6:30pm when I originally picked it up. She hung up on me. I've never rented a uhaul for more than a day and this is my second time ever renting. I can assure you I will never do it again after the treatment I received. I don't know how you stay in business if that who you have representing you. I even got a call from uhaul which I have the voicemail and the guy told me to leave the key in the front seat with the door unlocked. This morning I get a call from Brandon asking where the key is. I told him where I was told to leave it and he said whoever that person is is incompetent and all I wanted to know is if the key is the truck and hung up. If I could formally complain on him I would but when I tried nothing was even said nor did anyone apologize. They stuck with the same attitudeAshley K.

I was ready to move my 2 bedroom into my storage unit on 11/11 just to find out the lady who assigned my unit #136 has already been assigned to someone else. Therefore, I was unable to move my things in. I called customer care and spoke with 2 reps and they both told me there was nothing they could do. I stood in the rain for over an hour trying to figure out what to do at 8pm. I was highly upset and livid! i will NEVER use uhaul again in my life nor recommend you guys! The worst experience in my life. Because the staff wasn't careful when assigning my unit what caused a huge inconvenience for me financially because I had to find another storage place fast and had to pay them $169 that I didn't have a that moment. Truck made a knocking sound when steering and vibrated a lot. Inside of truck was very dirty and could not really see out of windshield (Cleaned windshield myself).SHANE H.
We encountered an issue because apparently the oil had been changed prior to our rental. We encountered 3 different oil spills and had to have Uhaul support come out and find the oil filter had never been tightened and subsequently all the oil drained. I was fortunate to identify the issue and call roadside support who fixed the oil filter and filled oil and tested. I lost a whole day because of this.THOMAS R.

The customer service and meeting expectations. I opted for the 24/7 service to pick up at 7:30 and when I tried to pick up I was told it wasn't available until 9:00. I came back to pick up and they didn't have any of the equipment I bought. There still hasn't been a refund even though that has been promised. I was given a Uhaul that was on EMPTY. On top of that your location prioritizes phone calls over in person customers. I was literally given the option of a van that needed gas or one that needed air in the tires. Grace was incredibly helpful!!! We reserved a unit online but never got any more information about how to move in online. Arrived at 7:30pm after driving from Savannah .. hot and tired and ready to finish our journey. We first called the emergency # posted but it was to a former employee. However she gave us Graces # to call. We did and she did everything necessary to get us into the unit that night. We were incredibly grateful. I thought an "in town" pickup meant I could drop it off anywhere in town. That is a confusing name, it should be called "same location" or something. I was not told that it had to come back to the same location even though I said I would be driving far away. At drop off, Android app didn't work. I could not upload a picture. Seems to be a well known issue, that is a serious problem. Luckily my wife was there with her iPhone, otherwise I guess I would have locked the keys in the van and hoped for the best. I was on hold with customer service for 30 minutes before giving up and realized I could use my wife's phone.Timothy B.
Fuel levels were misreported by U-Haul personnel on both ends. Due to this misrepresentation, I was overcharged by $75. The employee at the dropoff location did not allow me the opportunity to sign and verify that THEIR reported fuel level matched the ACTUAL fuel level in the truck. I signed in ahead of time so I could get the free lock for the unit. The lock was not placed in the unit as I had been told. I went to the office to talk to them about it, and there was only one person working the desk with at least three or four customers waiting. I did not have time to wait, so I left, and had to leave the unit unlocked overnight until I could get my own lock. We did not have the need to go there during the year so our experience with staff and the other aspects asked in the survey above were very limited. Ms. Mims provided me EXCELLENT customer service and went above and beyond to make sure ALL of my moving needs were met and that my transition went smoothly. I will be recommending this storage & U-Haul facility to my friends and colleagues. I would like to also add that the staff assisted me without any complaints even though the golf cart was broken and they had to walk and service EVERYONE by foot. I am a manager for a Fortune 500 company and I think it is a shame this company has yet to fix the broken golf cart or provide a new one for their staff. I will be investigating who owns this particular location so that I can let them know my thoughts as well. It's IMPORTANT to value and treat your employees well, especially when they are providing excellence and representing the company to and with the highest of standards. I have my stuff in this facility for one year and a half , the access was always easy but all my stuff was covered in a thick layer of dust and mice poo. It seemed like there were a construction right above my unit. I had to throw away my couch, chair, wash three times my clothes and super clean the rest of my other furniture. First of all my belongings got wet while they were in the storage unit and the customer service person told me I should have gotten the insurance. Secondly I keep getting these emails saying I owe money when I was supposed to get a free month of storage with a truck rental. My things were only in there two weeks, I rented truck both times and they still send me an invoice 30 days later saying I owe a late fee. This place is terrible no one seems to be running the show properly. I will never use this place again and can someone please look into my account to make sure they aren't reporting me to a credit agency for owing money.
