Truck was dirty. They didn't give me any brochure saying odometer mileage or what gas gauge was on. I had to take to car wash to spray out the back. The truck shook, tires needed balanced. Inside cab was trash. At first my reservation was made with the ace hardware in Hampton and when I got there they didn't even have a truck and wouldn't help me find one so I cancelled it myself and found one at this location. I wasted two hours trying to get a uhaul after making a reservation. Complete waste of my time and I had movers waiting that left so I had to load alone! It took me 8 hours. I am completely unsatisfied as I use uhaul a lot for my rental properties and am renting a 20 foot on June 30. I would like a full refund and my truck June 30 should be free as well due to all of my troubles!ELIZABETHMARIE D.

Please double check the vehicle stats before renting to next customer as it needed an oil change (0% oil life) and the tire pressure was different on all four tires (53, 60, 77 and 78). I added air in the front tires, but could only go to 70 psi (max at pump filling station) and by end of day, they had dropped to 67.VIBEKIRSTEN B.

When a truck is late for dropnoff let the next customer using it. I was suppose to get a 26 foot truck but there wasn't any because other customers didn't follow rules. Since we had to get a smaller truck I had to make numerous trips which we didn't plan. It was a huge inconvenience to me and my family. The ladies working the inside were slow and talked to each other more then the customers. From the time I entered the store until getting in the truck was 52 minutes. On June 2nd I requested to reserve a truck at 609 J Clyde Morris Blvd in Newport News, VA. Everything was confirmed, I reserved a 20 ft truck to be picked up the morning of June 12th, and I got a confirmation number. On June 10th I received a call a phone call telling me NO trucks were available at this location. I was told the truck I wanted was available at the Mercury Blvd location, in Hampton VA. The change in location added additional miles and created an inconvenience. Yes, I did receive a discount on the daily rate and the cost per mile but it BARELY covered the cost of the additional distance I was forced to travel. I DID ask if a truck could be brought to the original location but that request was denied. I feel like I was given empty promises and had no choice but to accept the new drop off/pick up location. I am not exactly happy with all of this and should I require similar services in the future I will be looking elsewhere.KEITHA H.

I am a little surprised the truck I received was still on the road. It's age showed very much. The fuel economy gauge didn't work and the steering was a constant struggle to name a couple of things right off the bat. I have rented plenty of U Haul trucks in my time in the military and they were all more modern and less difficult to handle. Please see below email I sent to the service team: Hello U-Haul customer service team, I am writing to you to express my disappointment and frustration with a recent rental. The day before my reservation I received a phone call that the requested equipment I was to rent was not available at the desired location. Instead I would have to travel to a location 40 minutes and 29 miles away as opposed to the location three minutes and one mile away. This change on such short notice added the following expenses to my move: Miles: I was given 50 bonus miles, but that did not cover the first 58 mile round trip. Furthermore, I had to make this trip twice because I initially dropped my car off so that I could bring the truck to my apartment to pack before returning to load the car on the trailer. Had this been one mile down the road, this would not have been an issue. Overall I traveled 58 extra miles that I was not compensated for, which means an additional $58 added to my reservation. Gas: two round trips at 58 miles = 116 miles. The 15 foot truck gets about 10 mpg which means I paid for an additional 11.6 gallons of gas. At about 3 dollars a gallon that equates to $35. Time: Two round trips at an hour and twenty minutes is close to three hours. This was definitely the most frustrating part as time is valuable when someone makes a long distance relocation. I don't feel the need to quantify what my time is worth, I hope that you can relate. With the added expenses and time to my move I am still very frustrated about this whole situation and am starting to wonder why the customer is given the option to choose a pick up location when it changes so frequently (this is not the first time this has happened, but it was certainly the most inconvenient.) I will be perfectly honest with you and say that the $50 U-Haul guarantee is not going to suffice in this situation given the expenses and time constraints. I am looking to be compensated far above the usual $50 for this, otherwise I will be forced to pursue other self moving options in the future. My contract number is below. I'd rented at this facility for 2 years in a row (during the summer). When COVID hit and students were forced to leave campus I again went to this facility. We live in California so I was forced to rent the unit for 14 consecutive months because Hampton did not reopen their campus. Month after month I asked the staff if there were any discounts being offered and was always told no. This location is always very busy but staff is always helpful and pleasant. We used U-Haul Truck Share 24/7 and website information said we could pick up without store being open. When we arrived, site stated we had to see person in the store so we got in the long line waiting until it opened. Once it did open and the line began to move, refreshing the website did finally begin the process of self-service we expected. That process is easy to do following the steps carefully. The 20' truck that I rented, seemed to need mechanical attention in regards to regular maintenance. It seemed to struggle in performance on the highway and even with going very easy on the acceleration, maintaining lower than the speed limit, the fuel economy was not at the level expected in relation to this specific vehicle (it is understood to not expect great mpg). We wound up going to another storage unit place because the halls for the storage facility were too small to where we coiling maneuver things into the unit. The doors for the 8x10 units are too small, large furniture would be difficult to fit in. The entrance into the units are fairly hidden so we had to ask where the entrance was. My only issue is that when the doors were changed, the new keys for the lock weren't mailed right away. I waited almost a year and then had to send a friend who lives locally to pick them up for me. The lack of communication regarding the keys was not what should have happened. Every time I called, someone who tell me that the keys haven't been mailed because they were waiting on people's updated addresses so all the keys could be mailed at once.
