I think that the staff at this location could benefit from some customer service skills. From the first time I stepped into the location, I was met with complete nonchalance and nobody asked if I needed help until I inquired. During the pickup today, the young woman who assisted me was rude and made me feel uncomfortable to the point where I was hesitant to ask questions. When the van was being returned, there was no one to assist me and I was mocked for not returning the van to a specific location which wasn't clear from the instructions provided at the onset. All in all, I think better customer service should be expected from your company and I have been extremely disappointed by my experience at this location.ERIC B.

I got there before closing. I was told by person behind the counter to park somewhere on the street with a parking meter. I could not find a place so I went tried to go back inside, 3 minutes after posted closing time and everything was locked and shutdown even though he knew he had a customer trying to return a truck. I finally was able to park in a lot with other Uhaul trucks but I was charged with a $20 after hours fee, when I started the process before closing. The person behind the counter barely gave any help with questions about parking and was not ready to help as it was close to closing.BLEU A.

We are bring charged for damage to the truck that we did not do. The damage is to the rear roof which could not be seen from a ground level walk-around pre inspection. We only noticed it from our drop off loading dock. We reported it to the site manager when we dropped off the vehicle but he said it was our mistake to not notice it when we inspected the vehicle. I have been a customer at this location for more than 20 years. If we are charged for this I will not use Uhaul again as I think this was a legitimate error. We did take out the insurance but it does not cover this charge apparently.EUGENE G.

I arrived at the facility a day before my move-in storage date to ask questions about the process. The employee behind the desk was not very helpful when I asked where to pick up the truck and where the storage units were located. All he could tell me was that my reservation existed for the following day, and he told me that tomorrow I would, "pick up the truck and then store [my] stuff", which I clearly was already aware of. I booked this months in advance and double checked with a Uhaul employee over the phone that the size of the truck and storage units would be large enough for a full size bed, a sofa, and multiple suitcases. Additionally, I was clearly told that monthly storage was pro-rated. Upon arriving, I could not fit my bed in the storage unit and had to rent a second unit last minute. On top of that, all lower level units were full. The only upside was that there was one other storage unit available for me to use on that day, which I was grateful for. The storage unit was clean enough, though I had very strong allergies as soon as I walked into the storage space, and my skin started breaking out into rashes within minutes, which rarely, if ever, happens. We had SO many trouble with drop off after hours. Costumer service helpful over the phone. Horrible experience in general. The truck was making a worrisome noise when used above 60 miles/hour, it was leaking rain inside the driver cabin and I got extremely wet. When costumer service finally answered me (after TWO HOURS waiting), they told me to accept 50$ for the problem and when I ask for more information and to speak with a supervisor, they hung up on my face. I called back and left a message. I received a message on my machine saying that "I am concerned .. other users rented the same truck after you and nobody complained". I was basically accused of being a liar. I have MANY MANY MANY PICTURES AND VIDEOS of everything. Happy to send them all to everyone. Will never rent with U-Haul again.CRISTINA L.
It was really slow with only one person working the counter, but she did her best. The truck had nearly 100K and made the sound of a pretty worn out engine, that is about to die, but the AC worked and it got there and back. The only other problem, and I'm pissed about it, is I got charged for gas, when I drove 77 miles and put 4.8 gallons back in ($15 worth), which brought the needle just under 7/8th, apparently instead of just over 7/8th and should have been quite well enough! What gives? I was then charged an additional two gallons @ $9. That's was unnecessary from a customer service perspective. Not good customer care after I brought it up with the person who told me just throw the key on the seat and she'd take care of everything. She took care of it alright, but not me, after she told me it was "close enough, I'd be fine."AA M.
By far it was the worst experience I've ever had with uhaul. We begged for a truck with rear camera but the staff didn't care. The truck itself was a mess! To noisy and uncomfortable. It was not clean when we picked it up. Too dirty! Young lady who finally "helped" us just ordered us to remove the dolly and the pads from the back of the truck and stack them. That's it, didn't say, that's all we needed to do. The general manager is biased/prejudice. Very disrespectful and unprofessional. We incurred an impound fee and upon inquiring about it and explaining what happened he said â€œif you are not from this country you should learn the language or find a way to translate itâ€. This should NEVER be said to anyone no matter their demographics or language barriers. It's disappointing that this is someone uhaul has representing their business. When speaking to management above him about this incident they said they would â€œspeakâ€ to him about it. I am not at all confident that they will adequately condemn the discrimination. I was asked to return the equipment to another location. I did do that when I dropped off transporter. What an inconvenience. Prior to bringing truck back I called and spoke with Brandon at UHaul. He said my contract stated Cambridge was where I was to bring it back so I went back and was completely haarrassed. The mgr said if I don't take it to Medford then he will park it on the street and I would be responsible for all the tickets. He said he did not care what corporate said and that he has my credit card info. Terrible customer service, never should a customer be threatened. I will never use UHaul again.Jeff W.
Pick up is great! Drop off isn't - I waited for 1-1/2 hrs for my 8:30 PM drop off because the parking lot is so mismanaged; I arrived at the location and ended up making friends because we were all waiting to figure out how in the world undesignated metered dropoffs were suggested in an area like Cambridge/Somerville (and the U-Haul counter reps didn't explain anything! Need training), whilst maintaining the expectation that the drop off can be made in time! It's bed time! No ones going to vacate their spot in an area like Somerville and Cambridge. Therefore, off-hours, one can expect to encounter other fellow Uhaulers waiting on the sidewalk wondering where their rental is - it's probably circling around burning gas that a Uhauler (prolly a student) paid for for the drop of, or parked illegally with exhausted Uhaulers passed out waiting to race for parking (it's dangerous!) . I asked a confused couple banging on the closed U-Haul dropoff vehicle entrance door if they were looking for a 20', and that they could have mine - the couple had reserved a 10' and couldn't find theirs. I called Uhaul 4 times because the wait music mutes out after 30 mins or so; I was informed by the recording everytime that I have a right to a copy and one was requested from one of the agents and I was put back on the muted loop so I gave up; it would illuminate the confusion and chaos that ensued after an exhausting endeavour such as moving on a weekday. I don't know Uhaul - use some of the "flat tax" and invest in an electronic smart door system that talks to your phone and coordinates vehicle dropoffs to assigned sensored parking spaces instead of wasting prime real estate and existing resources for more than half the day when moves are preferably made - after work/off-hours!!!! It's f****** Cambridge - get some help from MIT. Or let me help you. I'm not petty, but the experience was so bad that I actually am thinking about requesting a refund!Mustansir J.

I couldn't get my u-haul because someone didn't return it on the time. It was a hard time to get u-haul around this time. After I RESERVE u-haul at end of August, I chose the apartment based on this moving date, I paid extra money to hire moving guys, all those moving works... and all I hear is I don't have the truck that I reserved 1 month ago. It happened in Allston place, reception said they are not even u-haul so they can't do anything. I ordered through u-haul.com and suddenly they are not u-haul. they are just some storage place whatever. anyway, after a long call with 1800 -uahul they relocate Cambridge here. anyway made me cost way more money and time. of course, i had to pay more money to u-haul tooHOONSEOK J.

I had a reservation for a storage unit and went to check in for it on 8/26. The gentlemen outside were kind and helpful in directing us where to go inside and where to park our full truck while we checked in. I waited inside for about 40 minutes, and the girl I spoke to at the desk was rude and unhelpful. I gave her my name and reservation confirmation number, and she clicked around the screen for 10-15 minutes while chatting socially to the other woman working and saying nothing to me, I asked her if she needed additional info from me or anything, and she said no, but also gave me no updates (nothing like "I'm not seeing it, let me look for something else, do you have the email, etc."). Eventually, she told me that since my reservation had been scheduled to start a few days prior (I had scheduled a unit for a month starting 8/23, and wasn't able to get a car to move until 8/26), and I hadn't shown up on that day my reservation had been cancelled and therefore had no unit for that day. I told her that no where on my confirmation email did it say that my reservation would be cancelled and I had received no notice that my reservation had been cancelled, and she told me that it's not in the email but it is common sense. She told me it was "common sense" about three times and that I should have known this would happen (even though this information wasn't on my reservation or any email I recieved) and did not look at me once in this entire interaction and that she was unable to help me see if there was another facility nearby with availability. I understand that this is the busiest moving week of the year in Boston, but PLEASE make your cancellation policies clear or send a notice when something is cancelled (had I received a cancellation notice the day of my reservation, I would have been able to address it a few days before I was sitting outside of the facility with a full truck and no storage unit). Also, I am sure these are stressful/busy times for both employees and people moving, but truly I found the girl's entire demeanor and attitude so rude (not bothering to look at me or apologize for the confusion, telling me I should have known this would happen because it's common sense). The people I spoke to at the 800 number and at the facility I ended up using were so much more pleasant and understanding and helpful, and honestly, that makes such a huge difference, even if the answer is the same.Adam M.

My reservation was made in Watertown, almost 4 weeks ago. No where on my reservation or through communications did anything say to pick up in Cambridge. I was in Watertown at 8am for them to open, I was told they dont have any trucks there and that it is probably in Brighton. Once I arrived in Brighton, I waited in line for 25 minutes to be told I also did not have a truck there. My reservation was in Cambridge. While racing to get there I got a call that if I wasnt there by 9am, they were going to give my reservation to someone else. When I told the gentleman checking me in about it I got a shrug and nothing else. Icing on the cake was that the road you exit the Uhaul garage onto was closed on both sides due to construction. There was no mention of this from any employee, or directions of how to maneuver. For a company that has been around for so long, you would think they know how to operate a reservation and communication. I only had my moving help until 11am, this ordeal cut out a full hour of that time. I even returned the truck with a quarter tank more than was in it at pick up. When I picked up my truck, it was blocked in by a trailer. I had to move it myself in order to pull out. I reserved a furniture dolly but wasn't given one. And returning the truck was a frustrating experience â€" there is NO advice given on where to return (it seems as though procedure is to find street parking, but this is not easy in this area AND this direction wasn't specifically given.) The return is the biggest issue. If you're not going to provide a dedicated parking lot to return trucks, at least give detailed instructions on what you're supposed to do to return it.Nicholas D.

General Manager Chris Francisco is exceptional. (A first-rate manager and a responsive problem-solver, Mr. Francisco's terrific customer-service skills make him an excellent representative of the U-Haul brand.) I did have concerns about the presence of many small moths-a problem that persisted in my unit despite Mr. Francisco's prompt retention of an exterminator. Also, I was disappointed to find that my vintage leather suitcase (which had been sitting directly on the concrete floor) showed damage from an unidentified liquid seeping up for several inches. (The affected area was covered with mold, as well.) Mr. Francisco listened attentively, personally inspected the damage, and encouraged me to speak with him again after I had an opportunity to review the case and its contents. It was so stressful and difficult to move our stuff into the uhaul, for various different reasons. 1. The staff were not super friendly or helpful. We had been traveling all day and were exhausted when we arrived, and weren't 100% sure how it all worked. The staff didn't help us understand, but just sort of told us we were in the wrong place and had been told bad information. They were more interested in checking out at 8 pm than helping us. 2. We did finally manage to sort out returning the van and renting a room to put the boxes in. But we were told the garage was broken, so we had to lug all our items nearly a quarter-mile between where we were allowed to park, all the way across very poorly maintained sidewalks, over the raised doorstep, up the steep slope, and through the twisty hallways. It took a very long time. We were expecting to work hard - moving is never easy - but the fact that the garage was broken AND we had to park quite far away AND the only door that worked was raised meant that it was way more difficult than it should have been. 3. The carts! They were so bad! You expect moving carts to be fairly easy to maneuver, but these were extremely hard to steer and push. It was almost easier to carry everything ourselves. We did have to carry things in ourselves at points because the doorways were too narrow, or the carts too hard to steer around corners or over door thresholds. All in all, this was an awful uhaul facility. I'd tell friends and family to go literally anywhere else before coming here.ELENA R. | First Impressions
It was just chaotic. First, the garage door was broken the entire month I was there and I had to drag my stuff in through the small, person entry door and drag it on the carts up the giant ramp to get to my box. Second, I wasn't told the box was going to be stacked on top of another and I'd have to climb a ladder. That wasn't indicated when I was given the unit. Third, I did not know I needed my own lock until I was at the cashier and I had to buy one from y'all instead of something else. Lastly, there was confusion for someone on y'alls end when I moved out. Someone didn't update the records and I was sent another bill which got figured out but it was very annoying. It just wasn't a good experience. The worst part of it for me was the garage door issue, it was broken for a month and no one was there to assist with items I had to literally take apart my furniture piece by piece and shove it through a standard doorway and drag it up the ramp and then climb a ladder and put it away. However, I called to make a reservation 2 months in advance, got a reservation number, but when I called to confirm a week before my start date U-haul told me my reservation didn't exist. I made a new reservation, but when I got there on the day I had to move in the desk worker told me the unit size I wanted was no longer available despite the fact I reserved it, so I was forced into an unnecessarily large unit and on the top floor so that I had to figure out how to carry a mini-fridge up a ladder. This all seemed very disorganized and I was not too happy with this. However, to compensate U-haul did give me the first month free, so they were considerate which I appreciatelouise l. | First Impressions

the staff at this u-haul branch were amazing! it was my first time renting equipment and a unit, and the cambridge branch staff supported me through the entire process. they even drove my truck up to the unloading area, walked me to my unit, and moved the portable staircase for me so i could access my second-tier unit. 10/10! thank you!Lutece D. | First Impressions
