Ive rented uhauls multiple times before, I literally moved 5 times in one year by myself so renting a uhaul isn't new to me, however this was the first time I rented one directly from uhaul all the other times I rented from a gas station or storage place. This was also my worst experience renting a uhaul. The guys in the back were both short in attitude and clearly would rather be anywhere else than at work. No one ever told me where drop off was so I followed the signs and parked where I though drop off was, one guy came up to me and talked to me as if I were stupid for parking there. Turns out there was a uhauls BLOCKING the rest of the signs that's said go to the back. I get to the back and the one dude only says â€œpull upâ€, I pulled up an additional one foot as there was no more room for me to pull up (what was the point)â€¦.. he doesn't say anything else to me except â€œI need in thereâ€ again in a condescending, I'm the stupid one tone of voice. He then turns to me and asks if I was going to refuel or pay the refueling fee. I said I just refueled and it's exactly at how it was when I picked it up, even showed him a picture of the gas and he still charged me the refueling fee. I go into the office and explain to the lady at the front desk, even mentioned how they were so rude to me and she was completely dismissive. So if you're looking to rent a uhaul with a unnecessary disrespect fee AND an unnecessary fuel fee, this THE best place in Austin. I'll probably never rent from here again.Jennifer M.

Had I known the mileage rate and the cost per gallon to replenish the fuel used, I could have more accurately estimated my potential cost. Unfortunately, none of that was available prior to the reservation. The van had not been swept out nor was a representative available to accompany to the van to answer any questions I might have regarding operation. I had many. Honestly, I felt misled. If I had this information prior to making my reservation I would feel I was fairly treated. As it is, I feel cheated.STACEY H.

I notice you did not ask me to rate the initial location. I reserved a truck a couple weeks in advance, I was asked to provide verbal confirmation the day before pick up and I was asked to complete a preregistration. Upon arrival I was asked for name, address, my phone number and a backup phone number again. You have collected all of this, at least two times. After completing all this I was told they did not have a truck. There was no offer to provide any assistance, just we don't have a truck, have a nice day. I voiced my displeasure and left. I found another dealership, that assisted me in finding a truck, although the location was not open at that time and farther away. I waited, picked up the truck with no issues and completed the move. At drop off, I was told that I had used excess miles and we being charged a mileage fee. A fee that would not have been necessary if U-Haul had made a truck available at the location it was reserved at. A very unhappy customer.STANLEY C.
The elevator broke after my first trip to the second floor. The staff was difficult to reach, did not answer the phone or assistance button until a few tries. The staff were difficult to reach to let them know that the elevator was not working for moving in. The employees response was â€œthat's gonna be days before a repairman comes inâ€ and offered no help. There were no ground level storage lockers available either.MEGAN P.
Everything was 100% fine here and I have used this location many times. My issue was the tire blowing out 3 miles down the road with what appeared to be a screw hole in the tire. I do not know how well inspected/maintained the trucks are with so much volume at this location but it was extremely dangerous and I was lucky to have such a great technician at Lambs Tire to help me. He was super quick, friendly and professional. The U-Haul App is awful and I am going to rate it that way. I got error messages when asking for road side assistance. I was then instructed to call which put me on hold and told me to go back to the App. No one ever answered my call so I went back to the app to finally have someone text me. The address was not conveyed correctly as I was on the side of a highway in a dangerous spot. Luckily a state highway patrol came by and helped block traffic to get the truck off the highway. This dug into a very tight moving schedule for my helpers and really slowed down the process. I am not sure if I will come back to U-Haul after this experience.CORY J.

THERE IS NO PARKING ANYWHERE FOR CUSTOMERS! I went there twice and could not find parking because all spaces were filled with UHaul stuff. I only met one person out of 3 at the Ben White location that was customer friendly, everyone else appeared to be pissed off for whatever reason. An unpleasant employee experience indeed. The rental was very reasonable and served its purpose. I'll find another location next time I need a trailer.WAYNE F.

Somebody broke into my storage unit and threw my clothes/items all over the unit. Nothing was stolen, but it was certainly less than ideal. The only saving grace was Mandi, as she was super helpful and understanding through the whole process. She deserves a pay raise and promotion. Uhaul as a whole was not helpful with the process of reviewing what happened to my unit, but that wasn't Mandi's fault. She was handcuffed by a horrible policy.Logan F. | Overall Experience

I reserved a truck with 60 furniture pads a month and a half ago. When I showed up to pick up the truck, they said they could give me 6 pads. At first they said because they didn't have that many, then they told me that was the limit per customer. Then they gave me a truck that the fuel level was below empty. When I told them I didn't feel comfortable driving this off the lot, they took the truck and put less than a 1/4 tank of gas in it. After all of this my rental was supposed to start at 7am, and I didn't drive off the lot till after 8am. Also the cab of the truck stunk like cigarettes and weed.MICHAEL W.

This location is poorly organized and full of constant delays. Many times the computer systems were slow or down. The wait at this location was 30-60 on average. We decided to do the mobile rental so we didn't have to deal with renting the truck from the counter. The mobile option was supposed to be an easier way to do it but I was unable to find the truck where it said it was located, directions were very unclear as how to proceed. I had to ask someone on the lot and she told me I had to continue to update and refresh until I found a truck # that I was able to find on the lot. When I found that truck, I could not gain access to it until I went inside to the counter anyway, which I was trying to avoid by doing mobile, and got the keys. At this point I was told that the 10-ft truck that I ordered did not have a ramp and I'm really not sure why any moving truck wouldn't have a ramp. Upon returning, there was no space to actually return the truck where it was meant to be returned so I had to figure out where to park it in the back of a dark, secluded lot at night. From there, there is an extensive list of check-offs that you have to do before you are able to actually end the reservation and none of these check offs go in any sort of logical order for how you would leave the truck and return the keys in an efficient way. Also, the truck kept defaulting to a "haul" mode which made it really difficult to drive when not actually hauling. Overall, this experience sucked and it seems like this location has way too much business for the staff/size capacity it's currently employing. I will not be returning here.Julia L.

I was first booked to pick up my Uhaul from a different location which DID NOT have anyone there or any Uhual there. Wasted money and few hours ubering to this location when i then had to call and they changed my pickup location / services. Very frustrating and poor customer experience.KYLE A.

I haven't rented in years but I remember 5 yrs ago things were not this complicated when trying to drop off the equipment after hours. The first Uhaul truck we were given was old and poorly maintained. We paid $600 to have the truck loaded, only to have the truck break down about 10 minutes into driving. Uhaul provided another truck for us; however, by that time, we were hours behind schedule for our cross country move. It was a nightmare and our move ended up getting delayed by 7 hours. No one knew how to help us and it was hours before new movers came to transfer my belongings to the new truck. The new movers were quick but reckless with my things. I appreciate the fact that Uhaul gave us a new truck free of charge; however, they shouldn't have given us a terrible truck in the first place.Jaede C.

Reserved truck via truck share. Got to the location followed the instructions but the truck was locked. Had to get in line for about 30 minutes before being helped. Once I was at the service desk I explained to the team member Sebastian, how frustrating it was to have to wait when I selected truck share because it was quicker. He responded by saying there's a sign up front that says to cut the line. Regardless of the sign being there or not, he's attitude was extremely rude. At one point he said â€œI don't know what you want me to doâ€, to get which I said I wanted him to do his job. Then I told him it was obvious that he didn't care to which he responded â€œyou're right I don't careâ€. I has shocked and asked him if he said that he didn't care, he the said â€œyesâ€. I rent from haul fairly often and have never encountered such rudeness, unfriendly, unhelpful people. The manager was the rudest, snd when I ask who the manager was he spoke up and said "Is there something you need"? I said no I need a business card with name, he in turn gave me a full sheet of locations but no name. I just opened a business in Austin, tx as well as Dallas, Tx., but I will never go back to that BEN WHITE location again and will inform everyone of ALL the problems I encountered. U-haul sent a letter to my parents' address despite the fact that I am not the primary account holder, I never provided my parent's addres, and that our unit was already closed. This letter revealed very personal information that I never authorized U-Haul to reveal to anyone and as I never provided that address I need an answer as to why this was sent. I've used this location before, but right before the pandemic, summer of 2019, I moved, not renewing apartment lease because my Dad was dying, left town. Then, car broke down, traded it in fast. So busy, frustrated & exhausted. I had to store all my belongings. No full-time job after returning from Dad's funeral. Someone went in my unit, stole an item that I know it wasn't me. Only I have the key and no one else. Rented for 2 years because I had no home of my own. Whoever is going around the units sneaking around when manager is gone stealing from the ones stored for so long should know I found out because I'm very particular of how I preserve my belongings. The item was permanently tied in knots with a large item because I wanted it there always!!! My item was cut and yanked off by someone. I have to forgive the soul who did this, so God will forgive me, too. I don't know if manager will believe me. I've been through enough already.maria d. | Overall Experience
I truly appreciated the climate control. Stored wooden furniture for a little over a year and was in the same condition I put it in as. Facility was always clean and every staff member from office to personnel in the halls was always friendly and happy to help with anything, the few time I had to ask. We have used this facility for years but couldn't wait to move out. Staff are nice, but management is totally unhelpful. We paid for extra hours access but several times weren't able to get in. Though our storage units were never bothered, the building security was not secure. I would NOT recommend single women use or access this facility. The automatic front doors are open to the general public all day during business hours despite the fact that it is described as a "secure" facility. I inquired about why a code was not necessary and why it wasn't locked during the day, and I was told by management that it was "public." This is simply not true: I paid significant amounts of rent monthly to use it ($350 per month for two 10x10 units for years) and random passersby do not pay a dime; therefore, they should not have the same access as I do, and this certainly lowers the level of security. On several occasions, I had uncomfortable moments at this facility when transient men entered the building; they made lewd comments and drove back and forth on their bikes in front of the building, and as I was going in and out and would enter the front doors with their bikes to use the bathroom. The bathroom (on the first floor) was treated as public, rather than reserved for renters. Additionally, during COVID, the mask mandate was not enforced here.corrine s. | Overall Experience

Staff was rude and disrespectful when we set off the alarm. I explained we had only been there twice because we needed to store my daughter's items for college during the pandemic. BOTH experiences were awful. The first visit we were given the wrong codes which set off the alarm (not our fault) and the second time was purely accidental. The m staff member over the intercom was disrespectful and condescending. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. People who need a storage facility are generally in some form of transition. Manager was quite discourteous from the very beginning. I incurred a late fee at the very beginning of the pandemic after losing my job. He refunded my late fee, however, he was very unkind and and condescending. He expressed no empathy whatsoever and stated as long as I had the unit he would never refund another late fee. In October, the keycard machine wasn't working one night and a line of people had gathered and were trying to swipe in. I called the after hours number and it was the same unpleasant manager. Still discourteous. Still unhelpful. I hope that staff realize that moving into a storage unit can be a very low point in ones life, particularly after a job loss related to Novel Coronavirus. Office/counter staff was wonderful. Garage/outdoor staff was gruff and confused. One told me to park in one spot, then another came out to tell me to move the truck to another spot, and then another came out to tell me to move it to another parking lot. Thanks to Uhaull, I was able to store many items that freed my apt from clutter. Now that I have a larger dwelling and more space, I no longer need uhauls services. The only issue I had was the yearly price hike Uhaul charged to keep the storage space in the Somewhat 3 years I used their services.
