Jim PennyOur experience was not great at all, the customer that used our truck the day before left the key in the truck. The 12V battery was dead and the u haul employee helped us boosting it. Once the truck finally started I noticed that the gas tank was empty! Therefore I stopped at a gaz station, stopped the truck and it didn’t start again! I was stuck 1 hour at the gaz station waiting for a stranger kind enough to help us boost it again! Once we started packing the truck with our things I noticed that the customer the day before didn’t clean the freaking truck! The box with the blanket were open and they were everywhere in the truck! (Rest assured I put all the blankets back in the box.) And the dolly was on the ground not secured so I clean that as well. It’s the first time I have an experience like this with U haul and it was very disappointing.

Rendu là, la remorque n'était pas disponible car l'ancien locataire ne l'avait pas retourné.... J'ai dû aller à l'autre bout de gatineau pour avoir ma remorque finalement... ça m'a fait perdre 2h30 de plus que prévu... déjà que c'était une grosse journée qui s'annoncait...Je n'ai rien à dire concernant la succursale de gatineau mais je suis très déçu et ne recommande pas Uhaul

J’ai dû moi même entrer à l’intérieur pour savoir si il y avait quelqu’un qui avait remarqué que j’attendais! Et j’ai dû moi même aller stationner la remorque car l’employé qui était en charge de détacher la remorque ma dit que si il détachait la remorque à cette endroit je ne pourrai plus sortir car il y avait un camion devant moi ! Au lieu de me dire qu’il allait enlever le camion pour que je sois capable de sortir de la tente! Malgré ce petit message constructif je tien quand même à mentionner que j’ai bien apprécié mon expérience surtout pour le service avant la possession de la remorque et en général le personnel était courtois!!! Je recommande votre établissement!!! Merci

I would maybe recommend u-haul but definitely warn people to watch for hidden or not mentioned fees and charges. Cannot take it out on staff because they were very good and service oriented.

Richard NettletonI arrived at 9:15 in the morning. There was no lineup of people. Thé gentleman at the cash was in a bad mood or something. He was unable to say hello or make eye contact. He mumbled a few words of instruction as to where to find the vehicle on the lot. I had to ask him again. On the other hand, the other gentleman who was there to receive and inspect the returned vehicles was very friendly and clear in his communications. It doesn’t take much to make an effort to be kind and clear with customers. And it makes all the difference. It impacts entirely the impression of the company and the products and service. Was the first man having a bad day? Did someone just give him a bad time? Even if that was the case, it is easy to make eye contact and speak clearly. You don’t have to be friends with the customers. You just have to be useful and serve. I mention this because it is not the first time I have experienced this treatment at your place. I have arrived and there were two people with that same unhelpful attitude, like I didn’t exist. Your customers, for the most part, come to you because they are moving. It is stressful. They are not professional movers. They often are tired from days of prep or they aren’t ready. I have seen this a hundred times with my own friends and family. Then, to arrive at the desk where we are renting the most important element of the move (the truck) and to be treated poorly, it doesn’t feel good. It has an impact on the perceived value of your trucks and services. It makes me want to go elsewhere to rent a truck, even if that means driving further. Thank goodness you had one friendly person on the team or I would be definitely going elsewhere.

lynn sylvestre | First ImpressionsDespite all the yes answer above, I can only rate as an average. I will explain. After a full year of paying on time for my unit, I had to change credit card. I stopped by the office to gave them my new card number for the automatic payment. Something when wrong either a wrong number was entered or just to say that month the payment didn't get through. I didn't received any email to advise me that the payment was refused, instead they send me a letter by mail to advise me. With the Canada post being late with everything at the time, the first letter didn't get to me before a second month was missed and a second letter was send out. By the time the letters got to me I occurred a 2 months penalty that I quickly payed and issue with the credit card resolved. I call the office and ask why the notice wasn't email initially which I would had fix in a timely manner and late fee would have been avoided. The office said at the time there computer were down and the automatic noticed via email couldn't be email. They only said I had to pay the 2 months penalty. After been rented a unit for 1 year at the time there wasn't any flexibility in the issue encountered. Since there was a few contributing factors, I found the lack of flexibility by the office were non existent. For that reason I can only gave it an overall average rating.

Nicole Engombe | Overall ExperienceLe cadenas de U haul encore attaché à mon unité alors que j'avais bien avisé que je venais remplir mon unité le soir même après les heures d'ouverture et qu'il devait être prêt. J'ai du laisser des boîtes devant ma porte d'unité car il était impossible pour moi de les réinstaller sur ma remorque avec les sangles et les ramener chez moi, en espérant qu'à l'ouverture à 7 am ils puissent enlever le cadenas U Haul et mettre mes boîtes à l'intérieur de l'unité. Le lendemain j'ai téléphoné pour leur demander d'entrer mes biens dans l'unité et d'enlever leur cadenas. On m'a dit que ce serait fait et qu'on me rappellerait après pour confirmer le tout. Aucun retour d'appel. J'ai pris pour acquis que c'était fait. 3 jours après je retourne ajouter des biens a l'unité qui à ma grande surprise est vide. C'est à ce moment qu'on m'avise que mes biens avaient été volés ( entre 22h et 7h). Personne n'a pris la peine de m'appeller ppur m'aviser. Une employée m'a reconnue, elle m'avait vue ce soir la laisser mes boîtes dans l'établissement. Je ne l'ai pas reconnue sur le coup puisque le U Haul était en théorie fermé. Elle m'a dit qu'elle était présente sur les lieux à l'extérieur des heures de son quart de travail puisqu'elle "était dans le coin" et a décidé de "venir faire une tournée" à l'entrepôt juste pour vérifier que tout va bien. Quel dévotion! Ils m'ont dit avoir vérifié les caméras mais quel hasard la caméra qui filmait mon unité était brisée... seulement trois visites de clients pendant toute la nuit et pourtant on m'assure que mes choses n'ont jamais été vues être sorties par la porte principale ni déplacées dans un autre unité par ces clients. La fameuse employée-bénévole me montre plusieurs photos sur son téléphone de l'intérieur de plusieurs unités qu'elle a la chance de prendre lorsque les clients ouvrent leurs portes d'unités, ou du dessus des unités avec une échelle, photos qu'elle prend bien le temps d'analyser par la suite pour "vérifier si mes choses y sont" m'assure t-elle. Malheureusement mes choses ont disparu. On m'assure qu'on va revérifier les caméras et me rappeller. Aucun retour d'appel. J'y suis retourner et demandé de parler avec la gérante. Elle m'assure qu'elle s'en charge et me rappelle. Aucun retour d'appel. Je rappelle, elle n'a pas encore eu le temps... elle va me rappeller. Aucun retour d'appel encore. J'ai téléphoné U haul pour faire une plainte, on m'a dit de régler la situation avec la succursale avant de penser faire une plainte, de leur laisser une autre chance. J'ai eu aucun retour de personne depuis. J'aurais du écouter mon instinct premier et faire une plainte à la police. Ils auraient réglé le problème plus rapidement ! Mis à part cet incident, le service à cet établissement est tout simplement horrible.

I had made a payment on second unit in advance but cancelled the second unit 3 days before the rent was due on 17th of January UNIT 2609. The manager at Location Rue St-Louis (Alexa or Chenel or Valerie) made a REVERSAL on 15 Jan of payment done to cover 17 jan to 17 Feb. But until now 4 days later Jan 19, That Reversal(refund) has never appeared back at my bank account. The original payment was done by Visa/Debit . Also, the line up time at facility was unacceptable to have only 2 people working. Lining up for 30 mins when you have a limited time block fir your move, just doesn’t work. Ultimately your lack of available service made my moving day stressful and difficult to a point where unless you hire more people, I wouldn’t want to use uhaul again. I also worry you’re being unfair to your employees. Time to use those profits to hire more people!

From an early morning telephone call with Christopher, to my face to face interactions with Melanie and him, their customer service was unparalleled. They communicated with respect and provided exactly the storage space needed. The price was excellent and I drove off with a smile. I then returned same evening to cancel my contract, and they respectfully told me they do not refund such move-outs. However, the hilarious time I had was when they asked for the reason for cancellation. I told them my daughter said I was wasting money as she could provide the needed storage for me free, and insisted that I cancel the contract. A beautiful lady standing there looked at me, and picked her phone to explain to her boss as the system did not allow them. Then she said, "we have a lady here in the office that will like to cancel a contract she opened this morning......, I think her daughter things she's crazy to have opened a storage unit and she needs to cancel it to have peace." I laughed so hard and got up to hug her as she said exactly what was in my mind. Collectively, they resolved the problem and I drove off again with a smile. Great U-Haul team, I will surely be back when my daughter allows me to act crazy. Thank you all, you made my day yesterday.

His name is Christopher. He was really rude, disrespectfull and didnt even want to call his supervisor to fix a situation. He shouldnt work with the public if he is not respectfull. He even said to us that it wasnt his problem if we were stupide enough to move into that storage , that should not be a value of your compagnie. I hope this man has big conséquences for what he did. So if you’re very familiar with Uhaul policies and all and need little to 0 assistance to do anything at all. Go ahead and choose this place. If not, IM BEGGING YOU TO READ this comment and all the other ones. So this place is like a prank TV show except the they’re are pranking you on how much disrespect you can handle. Gosh First of all l, do not try to call there. No really. Do. Not. Will they pick up ? Sure. Will they answer you ? NO. You will be left inline to wait while listening to them pretending to be busy for numerous minutes. Should you go there in person then ? Absolutely ! But please do so at the first rays of sunshine as they are so slow that pass 9:30a waiting in line is sufferable. There are plenty of employees but only 1-2 on the counters that also tour new customer and show storage unit. So nobody will help you. The other ls just stand around the place smoking. Make sure you double lock your storage units and that you record/take pictures of it before and after moving or they will try to hit with fees. Print your order summaries to the office or they will try to make pay twice the same fees. Call in advance to check on your truck or storage units as their $50 reservation warranty is just for show. Insist (or bring someone that can insist) on being shown to your storage or your truck in person; especially it is your first time. Or for any damages it’ll be your words against theirs. Take pictures. It’s just bad all around. And since I have used and seen friends use other Uhaul facilities elsewhere, I know the service can be much much better here.

Mais jusqu'à notre départ, nous n'avons reçu, même pas un accusé de réception de cette réclamation. Et là, c'est une très mauvaise approche clientèle. Je pense que vous devez traiter vos clients comme vos invités, au même titre que les membres de votre propre famille, pour espérer les garder le plus longtemps possible. Franche collaboration.

Not everything as well would fit. We had no choose no one could help us. After driving in from Montreal 3 hours we hotb the truck in Ottawa uhaul and then went to the move in Gatineau Head office arranged a free UHaul storage to get everything in as the plan was to drive all back to Montreal but now we could not. Got To Gatineau storage and with even the confirmation letter they did not have the 10 x 15 we had been promised What s mess. Finally they were able to find us a locker plus let us rent a 20 foot truck for 2 hours At $79.00. Plus we paid the cargo van. And a 20 foot truck charge for Saturday May 15th when we have to drive back to Gatineau pack the truck and again drive back to Montreal. The manager did her very best and we are grateful but I would like a refund on the cargo van which was a terrible job that we had to move with till 1pm in the afternoon . In fact it is one of the TOP 3 rental and service experiences in my life. Staff are kind, courteous and beyond professional, provide solutions that are outside the box. Employees go above and way beyond expectation. Always ready to help their clients and their colleagues. They are a close knit group and are like a family and they take pride in the quality of their work and in being able to provide the client a top-shelf client experience and their work ethic and dedication to the client is exceptional. All of the above is the result of the Management group led by Tania Masse. Like any business the General Manager has to be able to get the best out of their staff and she has excelled at this. I have never seen a manager who has been able to hire great people, train staff, have them all on the same page every day they come into work and have them all buy-in to the corporate culture Tania has nurtured and embedded into the daily routine. Under the guidance of Tania the culture is top notch and it clearly resonates with her employees in all areas of the operation. I don’t have to name the names of all the staff because the general attitude of each employee is almost identical and this positive “Welcome to U-Haul how can we help you today” and “Can Do” attitude is visible everywhere and by everyone from Management, Counter Client Service staff, the staff that clean and prepare the trucks and those that clean and the storage facilities and ensure the courtesy equipment like dolly’s are available and also to the mechanics and garage staff that repair and maintain the trucks so the client has a safe and worry-free trip. I think I have clearly made my point of how my experience has gone since I discovered the St.Louis, Gatineau location. I will never go anywhere else for moving and storage requirements. To provide a typical example of the work ethic of the staff member, without naming the employee, I own a Queen sized IKEA Malm bed with a clamshell design which opens up Queen sized storage under the bed below the heavy metal frame. All to say it’s a nasty, heavy and has a lot of Hex key nuts and bolts. I commented to the employee that the metal frame would need to be totally dismantled and that I had brought a manual hex key and I would be back to dismantle it once I prepped my SUV to receive the frame which was already more than full which I was prepared to do because it was after hours and obviously it was not his job to do that while his wife waited outside to pick him up after work. Well to my surprise the employee, without being asked other than my passing comment and before I returned to dismantle the frame took it upon himself to pull out his drill driver, grabbed the 2 sizes of hex bits needed and while I was away he dismantled the heavy metal metal frame, bagged the bolts and nuts and was stacking the wooden latts that the mattress sits on. That dear U-Haul C-level Executive Management is INITATIVE in going way beyond the call of duty and that credit goes to that employee and others that perform like that 7/24/365 in Gatineau. I have never seen that at any other U-Haul be it the corporate locations or the 𝘊𝘰-located locations inside Oil Changers or Convenience Stores most of which are Epic Failures. I now drive more than 12 kilometres bypassing 2 𝘊𝘰-located places straight to St Louis in Gatineau because I value all the values Tania has instilled in her team. Your General Manager is the hardest working person there but everyone works very hard because Tania does. Comparing Tania in Gatineau to other locations I firmly believe Tania deserves a healthy raise or at least several more percentage points on her performance management bonus. À chaque fois que je fais affaire avec U-Haul, il y a un problème à régler... Cette fois-ci, je n'ai pas pu réserver mon entrepôt en ligne de 7x10 car la date était figé. J'ai dû appeller. L'attente pour le service au téléphone ou en personne est exagérément lent ! Ensuite, la préposé me réserve mon entrpôt au téléphone. Sauf que lors de la récupération de mon contrat, il n'y a plus de 7x10 de libre. J'ai du choisir un 10x10 sans accomodations tarifaire. Ça me fâche énormément ! De plus, lorsque j'arrive à mon entrepôt avec le camion loué plein, le numéro de l'entrepôt alloué est déjà prit, et les employés ont terminé leur service ! Vous avez besoin d'une bien meilleur organisation , c'est urgent !! Sans compter les dernières locations de camion... Il y a avait un problème avec le compteur du véhicule qui nous chargeait 50 km alors qu'on en avait fait moins de 20km. Sinon, la réservation qui n'avait pas fonctionné. Mais que se passe t il avec votre compagnie U-Haul ? J'aimerais bien vous recommandé pour vos prix et vos installations chauffés mais à quoi bon si on trouve toujours des problèmes de dernière minutes. Enfin, connaissant mieux comment ça se passe, je prévoie toujours au moins 1 h d'avance pour régler le problème qui se présentera. C'est triste ! :/

This was the first time I used UHaul's storage facilities. I had rented trucks and trailers in the past. Everything was clearly explained to me as to my needs. It was great to know that a military discount was offered, which was a factor that played in my decision to set up an account. Auto-paying was great, as I never had to remember to make my monthly payment. I received an email each time a payment was processed or when important information (such as COVID-19 process) needed to be relayed. I visited my locker a few times to remove and add items. This was done with ease. Motion lighting, secure swipe card and the use of UHaul carts and dollies made it even easier and safer. This past week, it was time to move the items out and I was impressed how staff accommodated the moving van outside the back bay to load up my late parents items to be moved long distance for family members. My experience with UHaul was great. If the need arises again, I will look at giving them my business. Thank you.

Lorsque je me suis présenté la veille, le 29 octobre 2020, l'homme derrière le comptoir m'a dit d'attendre au lendemain matin pour faire le contrat de location. J'ai insisté pour le faire afin de ne pas perdre de temps avec le déménageur le lendemain vu l'achalandage et le temps d'attente en ces temps-ci. Il a accepté et m'a fait le contrat avec une location d'entrepôt à l'intérieur malgré ma demande pour un entrepôt à l'extérieur vu le déplacement d'une établie de 12 pieds me disant qu'il n'y en avait pas de disponible à l'extérieur?? Pourtant, la dame rencontrée lors de ma première visite m’a dit que ce n’était pas nécessaire de faire le contrat et payer à l’avance, que je n’avais pas à m’inquiéter, car il y avait beaucoup de disponibilité. Le 30 septembre au matin, je me suis présenté à nouveau au comptoir pour demander un changement d’entrepôt en expliquant que j’avais une établie de 12 pieds et qu’il serait difficile pour les gars du déménagement de circuler dans les corridors des entrepôts intérieurs. La dame qui m’a reçu m’a offert sans problème un entrepôt extérieur. Et elle nous a même donné deux autres entrepôts extérieurs pour réussir à entrer tout ce que j’avais. Autre point, un des entrepôts qui nous ont été assignés avait un lave-vaisselle à l’intérieur. Il n’a probablement pas été vérifié entre deux locations. J’ai mentionné aux personnes qui étaient aux comptoirs qu’on le laisserait à l’extérieur de l’entrepôt. Et un dernier point, le dispositif pour activer et désactiver l’alarme à l’extérieur ne semble pas fonctionner. J’ai dû retourner à l’intérieur voir les gens au comptoir et ils ont activé l’alarme à l’intérieur.

David Chalifoux | First ImpressionsI know these are tough times for everyone and I'm willing to forgive one or two things, but there was a lot of unnecessary stress during this process. I did the "Rent Now" option online. My contract says I'm being charged $89.95/month, but my first bill says $92.65. I emailed the contact email about it (849071_GM@uhaul.com) and got no response. This was 9 days ago. Unrelated, I called about dropping off the truck and the woman I spoke to said I could not access my rental unit on Sunday because they're closed. I explained that I did the Rent Now option and she said I would still need to finish the contract with a representative (which after some research I discovered is not true). So we arrived on Sunday and one set of doors was wide open. So was one fo the inner doors. We found our unit and when we tried to open it, an alarm went off. So I called customer service and was forwarded to the alarm department (or something like that), who told me the alarm was not showing up in their system. When we got in the unit, the back foot or so is unusable, because there's a big pillar on one side and rat poison on the other that says "do not touch." So my 5x8 is more like a 5x7. Overall, terrible experience.
