mary houk | First ImpressionsRented a Cargo van to move some furniture around town. Made a reservation online the night prior and intended to use the Mobile App to check out the van. It was a snowy day so I went inside the office to see if they'd be ok with me leaving my car in their lot for the couple of hours I'd be using the van. The gentleman was very courteous and said yes and that he'd be happy to help me check out the van as it'd be quicker than if I used the Mobile App. I let him do his thing, he handed me the keys and directed me to walk across the street to use the van in the front row. The van I got had some graffiti tagging and some sizable gouges and dents. The van worked great for what I needed and I dropped it off ~4 hours later. I topped it off with fuel at the BP just South of the facility. I went inside and the representatives were playing cards at the counter and directed me to simply drive it across the street, park it under the green cover and drop the keys off in the box. Easy enough so I did just that. 30 minutes after they closed, I got an email receipt for TRIPLE what I was expecting. They recorded that I had gone 140 miles on a snowy day in the late (rush-hour) afternoon. No way! I mapped all my driving out and it ended up being closer to 40 miles in total. I wrote an email to the GM inquiring about this discrepancy and didn't hear anything. I called in around noon the next day and spoke with a representative about my concerns. She was nice enough to walk across the street and validate the van's current mileage and insisted they recorded everything right and that my charges were accurate. I've always had fine experiences at U-Haul and have recommended them to family and friends over the years. This definitely leaves a sour taste in my mouth, though, and I'll be taking my business elsewhere. Additionally, I'll be filing a chargeback with my credit card company to dispute the mileage discrepancy and erroneous charges.

When I picked up the truck, the check engine light came on and the attendant got on it right away. Turned out to be an O2 sensor and I was on my way in no time. From that location. No dollies were available. She said there were no dollies available for weeks. I am one person moving my 86 year old father with limited time. This hassle caused unnecessary tension. The truck had a service light on for the stability track.

chase labeauVan had tire warning light. When I asked, staff member said the tire was fine but the sensor was broken. When I asked how he could be sure, he said the sensors break all the time. It wasn't the most comforting response. When I returned the vehicle, I asked for the van to be checked before I left so I would know my total. Difference staff member tried to convince me I would be fine. I had to push back to get the van checked out and total calculated before leaving. None of this is a dealbreaker, but it could have been better. On the positive side, check-in was quick and smooth.

LEE VALENTAI generally have low expectations with rental car and moving truck companies, but my U-Haul experience this past weekend was fantastic. Rep at the pick-up desk was knowledgeable and got me in/out quickly. Truck was very clean and worked perfectly for my trip. Return was easy. Glad to see your app work great for the check out/check in process. I’ll be using U-Haul more often as a result of this trip. Really nice job.

David RaskOverall experience from the service agent was pretty good, but I must say this was the first time my truck didn’t come with a lock and the door insulation in the driver side seems to have a gap because the air from outside was coming through no matter how hard you close the door which creates a drag so the truck travels slower and mpg is already a hassle with these trucks

Jere BlanchfieldYou need to either update hours on your website or have your staff work later. I was given a time range to make an appointment and it was between noon and 2:30. I chose 2:30 because I had conflicts earlier. The day prior I get a reminder and the time I chose was changed for noon. I had to call and have someone revert the time back to 2:30. At 10am the day of installation I received a reminder call for the appointment and it was reverted back to noon. I was not happy and told them that I cannot do it any earlier than 2:30 and the person on the phone told me that they changed it because their installer only works until 3pm. You need to either provide appointment times that factor in installation within the hours staff is able to install, or have that person work longer in order to do his work within the available times. This stressed me out and did not make me happy with my experience.

SUE BARTELL | Overall ExperienceThe car hauler I rented was picked up at night with poor lighting. In the morning I noticed it was extremely dirty and look like the previous renter had been on a gravel road for sometime and was never cleaned by either the renter or by U-Haul. Because there was sand on the straps, and in the ratchet mechanisms, it was extremely hard to Operate the ratchets and they were actually quite rusty. I put them over the tire and tightened them to what I thought was good, and when I got to my location, I noticed they had fallen off. Unsure if this was because of the sand and rust in the ratchets, but I’ve never had this problem before with my other car hauler rentals. The two tires on the left side were in poor condition, one being so bad that I was a bit nervous about it being easily punctured, since there was hardly any tread on it. I measured it with a tread depth gauge, and it was slightly under 2/32, which I believe is illegal in Minnesota. I mentioned this to the male employee at the new building when I brought the trailer back and there was not an apology or an offer to compensate me for a future rental. Very disappointing. He then asked me if I knew how to disconnect the trailer by myself, because he didn’t know where the other employee in the yard was. I told him I thought I could figure it out, drove over to the yard area and disconnected the trailer by myself. I’ve rented six or seven trailers in the last five years from U-Haul. This latest experience felt like a very unprofessional organization with compromised equipment. Not impressed at all. I feel that U-Haul should give me a credit towards a future rental without an expiration date.

Dirt and crumbs all over the cab, the steering wheel was sticky, the inside of the windshield was grimy and had some sort of substance stuck on it.

Jeff JapsUhaul has gone to a mostly self-service/self-checkout model. This has some advantages, of course, such as returning equipment after business hours. And some people really would just rather do it themselves. They do offer the service to pick up at the office. However, you have to go searching for your own truck once they give you the keys. It doesn't seem like too much to ask to have a customer service person at least ask if you would like them to locate the truck for you to make that process a bit more user friendly. This woudl be especially helpful if the truck is parked in a difficult-to-get to location. It would be very appreciated if the truck were at least moved to an easily accessible place such as the office parking lot before the cusomer arrives to pick it up. As it is, the trucks are just parked wherever they were last placed and it's up to the customer to go find them in the lower parking lot and drive them out of that rather crowded parking area. A little bit of customer service in this regard could really go a long way.
TRAVIS COLEMANlow tire pressure warning was displayed when I started the van and one tire lost air during the trip. your website did not recognize the location of my phone, even with all settings set to your instruction when I brought back the vehicle. Not impressed with your online procedures. Got a fast response from your roadside assistance people, that was helpful.

We had a lot of negative experiences with other storage facilities in trying to get storage, but U-Haul really redeemed the storage industry in my eyes with this experience. Now the truck rental with U-Haul was quite the opposite, but that has been resolved as well. So thanks U-Haul for making this experience a good one
ALLYSSA SHACKLETON | First ImpressionsIt was pretty clear my unit had been only minimally inspected before being made available to me. There was a cigarette lighter on the floor in a corner, and a number of small roundish objects both in solid black and white colors. I think the black ones are some kind of dead insect or beetles, no idea about the white ones, moth eggs maybe? Rodent droppings god forbid? Definitely doesn't make me enthusiastic about using the unit for storage and if I wasn't in a hurry helping a relative I would cancel it and go elsewhere. Anything I do put in there will be in whatever form of sealed container or bag I can contrive. As another example of how minimal any turnover work was, there was supposed to be a lock in the unit as well but that was forgotten. No reason to complain here, one was offered right away with zero issue, I just offer it as another data point/example. A couple cigarette butts on the floor in the hall near my unit make wonder about building security and surveillance too, if not necessarily the safety of my unit itself. It's a big place with a lot of floor space and winding hallways. Very easy for someone to be doing something they shouldn't around the corner from a camera. On the other hand, I can't emphasize enough how friendly and helpful the staff were. I don't want to sound like an angry customer and I never want to be one. The storage unit gives me pause and I'll be using it for as briefly as I can, but I have nothing but praise for the staff personally.

The staff were friendly and kind but U Haul's company policies prevented them from fixing stupid issues. To top it off I was told I HAD to purchase the lock that UHaul provided instead of being allowed to return it when I was done with the unit. A lock with a Uhaul brand name on it and customized for the specific storage locker I used. What am I going to do with that!? I couldn't be done with them fast enough and would strongly strongly discourage anyone from ever renting from Uhaul.
SEAN SKIBBIE | Overall ExperienceWhen I first arrived in the morning to check for a reserved storage I did online the staff was kind to show me where everything is and gave a presentation at the desk of the 10x10x10 storage I rented. Fortunately, everything fits inside perfectly even though I had lingering doubts when I imagined there might not be enough room judging by the size of the unit, but I made a good choice and it all worked out.

But print font was soooo tiny it really was not possible to read words on papers. u- haul really needs better presentation of its customer lease agreement. in several instances your lease omits major sections of Minnesota's Self Torage statute provisions -- like notice that certain ' exempt" personal property I s always accessable and removable from rental unit- clotjing, yools of trade, personal papers ,& records and other items ennumerated in the statute. Other tenant rights are also omitted from explicit inclusion in lease. While U Haul staff are friendky and helpful, the basic tenant- landlord relationship is not well presented in the current composition of the lease.

I called multiples times to get a manager.. I even called corporate, and no one could seem to help me remove the fees from their mess up!? Needless to say, I am glad to be done with this u-haul… and their security systems are always messed up!!!!! We would check in and it would still trigger the alarm. Even their employees would say “oh, it’s been happening a lot”… this is a brand new facility. Awful experience.
