The mileage was off by a couple hundred miles and the half tank only had a quarter tank in it. I brought it back with a half tank, wondering if I got credit for the gas? The U-Haul attendant came out and documented everything. Also, the van needs alignment. It was pretty shaky.

Tamara Marcum | Overall ExperienceThe manager where we picked up equipment suggested this drop off location in Richmond because they would offer help unloading but this was not the case. They said that if we needed help unloading car it would cost us $40 so we had to do it ourselves then they weren't helpful removing trailer, and as 2 women renting hauler, had to figure it out ourselves. With the cost of rental, and just common courtesy, helping with equipment should be part of the service.

Although this last experience was a long term storage rental. I would like to personally Thank Shara. Uhaul Westside Richmond IN, 47374. She was always helpful and professional . She was very understandable about my financial situation. I am retired and living on a single check per month. My move in date was on the 26th of the month. Therefore, my payment was due on the 26th of each month. Every month when I called her on the Sunday before the 26 date of every month. She always remembered me. Most importantly as long as I made that call on or before the due date, she graciously, didn't charge me the late fee. Of course I made my payment on the 3rd of each month. That is when I got my payment. I never was made to feel embarrassed of my situation. Most appreciately, I was never charged the extra late fee. Shara automatically understand that I needed every cent to get by. I have been a professional, a business owner and a youth coach in our community. I believe strongly in professionalism and hard work. I also understand that a company survives at its very best when given high quality standards for the customer. That alone will keep customers walking in your door. It is also the very best advertisement, that doesn't cost the Big $$.! I want to thank the uhaul staff again for many years of great service. He offered a different vehicle to me, that actually would better meet my needs, at the National Rd W location. It was also available at an earlier pickup time. Earlier in the week he helped me pick out moving boxes and made suggestions that were very helpful. Everyone I met and communicated with at the National Rd W site was great!

John BrotbeckI returned the truck after hours, completely exhausted from a full day of moving. There was a sign saying that I could avoid an after hours return charge by downloading the app. I spent several minutes trying to get this to work and it could not locate my order to return. I then got frustrated and accidentally locked the key in the truck. I never received a final bill. Just a huge charge on my debit card. I called the location for an explanation and learned that I was charged the $20.00 after hrs. charge and an astronomical $150.00 fee for locking the key in the truck. This is a simply greedy up-charge that has no basis in reality! I will never be renting from you again!

He refused to switch our truck but offered to spray some “disinfectant.” Then when we got our things to our new home, out of the storage unit there were roaches in the boxes! I tried to call the manager Sarah to talk to her and she told me sorry I’m out of luck. Overall super dissatisfied with the entire facility and the poor customer service.

travis hooverPeople were friendly and helpful and even mounted / switched from the 2 5/16" ball I had to the 2" ball I bought to fit the trailer. The safety chains were missing to secure the car on the trailer to the trailer. I had to drive 35 minutes back to the location to get the chains installed. The surge brakes were grabbing . This caused an oscillation that jerk the tow vehicle ( Full size pickup truck ) and made it dangerous to brake . Every time the surge brakes would engage it would do this. I had to slow down and use the vehicle brakes lightly. This altered my route taken. I was told that is how they work. I have pulled trailers for about 50 years and this includes several with surge brakes ... NONE have performed so poorly. If I had another choice I would have taken it back.
brian arnoldWhen we were hooking up the hauler the employee had us check our hazards and our brake lites so we assumed our lites were operable as he said we were good to go.. we then drove off as nite fell we noticed our running lites were not on so as we entered our home town after being brighted and honked at for 6 hrs by passing vehicles we were pulled over by local officers for not having running lites so we had to park amdeave trailer in a gas station until daylite when we could go back and get it.. only because we were so close to home and the gas station aloud. Us to leave it overnite because they were open 24/7 it was a mess after driving for 8 plus hrs and being extremely exhausted had to deal with that.. also the brakes on the trailer kept locking up w each tap.. it was the hardest drive I've had to embark on in a long time due to this darn pull behind trailer..
Jonathan CantuI confirmed my drop off location in Lebanon, IN upon confirming my Uhaul trailer rental a week before my departure. When I left Richmond, IN on Friday afternoon, Uhaul Corporate called me and attempted to tell me the Lebanon, IN Uhaul Facility (my agreed upon drop-off location) was at capacity. They instructed me to drop off the trailer in Indianapolis, IN (an additional 40+ miles and over an hour round trip away). I was very frustrated they allowed me to confirm a location and then reneged on that location as my drop off. I pressed them to compensate me for the additional mileage with my personal vehicle, and they offered a measly $20 for what would end up being nearly $10 in gas money alone. When I asked for fair compensation, they put me on hold to discuss with someone else. After the hold I was told very shortly that I would not receive any additional compensation and that I should just drop it off in Lebanon, as agreed upon. This experience left me frustrated that they attempted to make me relocate their equipment for them, as I am neither a Uhaul employee or contractors, for a ridiculous compensation rate. If you find yourself in this situation, push back at the unfair practice they are attempting to do. I want to re-iterate that the staff in both locations were excellent and deserve 5-stars. Uhaul corporate was not and deserves 1-star.

I was not explained all the requirements needed while renting the unit such as my account needing to be on autopay. After two months of paying with calling in, some employee just “checked a little box” and put me on autopay. There was no authorization by me whether it be voice recording or electronic signature for uhaul to be authorized to take from my account, and I was told that some employee must have just checked this box and put you on autopay, HOW IS THAT LEGAL? It took TWO MONTHS of multiple return check fees to be ASSURED I was not on autopay without my permission. Even after speaking to the general manager about my problem of originally being charged without my permission, she approved for my payment to be sent back and said I was not on autopay. THE NEXT DAY after the payment was returned I was charged again. How can that happen? And after I tried to call and get this fixed I had multiple employees tell me that this is just how it is and she is not the best person to talk to, AS I HAVE ALREADY FELT. After being shown that there was no clear leadership and the manager could care less about me trying to get financial stable after having to leave a domestic violence relationship and JUST NEEDED MY THINGS TO BE OUT OF HIS HOUSE, I immediately got my things out the unit and left. Never coming back again and if anyone asks, I’ll MAKE SURE they never come to this facility.

I was told card would unlock the doors but that several of the doors where not working. My card did not allow access to any of the doors even several hours after getting the card activated. An alternate card was provided which initially did not work but was told that I would just need to allow time for the card to become active. I have not been back yet to attempt again however I’ve paid for 24hr access and now have to arrange a visit during office hours to ensure I can get access. I had to read about checking in and out (if I was told about this it was certainly not made clear) and became even more frustrated when card wouldn’t swipe and alarm went off upon entering my unit. I was told that if alarm goes off it’s not a big deal, which is concerning and leads me to believe my valuables are not safe. I was told if I ever needed anything to just press the intercom button. I pressed that button several times at several different stations and never spoke with anyone. I can see the potential in this storage space however equipment needs to function appropriately or be fixed. Also, with my intent of short term storage due to move, not being able to pull my truck directly up to the unit is another huge deterrent for using this facility in the future.
