Charlene CThe U-Haul located in the Bronx, was great! We arrived when it opened, and the attendant helped with everything! U-Haul Moving & Storage of Port Morris 780 E 138th St Bronx NY 10454 U-Haul itself as a company changed my reservation the day before pick up 3 times. We ordered our truck 4 weeks in advance of our move. The morning before, they emailed to say they downsized our truck. Then throughout the day, they changed it from a 10ft to 27ft truck. The system is horrible, no one who works can properly help, and they push you to someone else. I spend over 7 hours on and off the phone all day to make sure we have a truck for pickup. Its honestly a miracle that at 8pm the evening before our 7 am pick up 1 person was finally nice enough to stay on the phone and help us get a truck.

Only this is that my unit had rats, and roaches and a lot of dust because the unit ceilings were open and not sealed. My items such as my bed, mattresses, dining table set and clothing were ruined and had to be discarded. So I basically paid for storage for nothing because I had to throw everything out.

DANELN JThis was my first U-Haul experience and it wasn’t the best the first truck she gave me the seat adjustment was broken so I had to go back in and change trucks and I asked her two questions but she didn’t respond to me. One of them was about how much guys do I need to refill, more or less as my trip was only about 16 miles total and I didn’t get an answer and my other question I told her I needed three hours as a estimate but wasn’t sure but probably would need less and I reserved and left the U-Haul place I believe at 9:23am and returned the truck by 11:23am which was exactly 2 hours I believe and said to her I only use two hours not three And do I get any discount back because I didn’t use the three hours she was on the phone and again no response. I ended up putting $25 in gas which was way too much when I returned. I had 1 quart less of half of a tank I have pictures of before I gassed up and after If she would’ve at least gave me an estimate how much to put back after I told her how many miles I was going to use definitely would’ve helped and she said she was gonna mail me a updated receipt which she hasn’t I could get some type of money back at least for the hour or less I didn’t use because it’s funny after I mention the gas thing and she still quiet when I see the receipt it says that I can’t get reimbursed for putting too much gas which would’ve been nice to know ahead of time when I asked the question, so I don’t think I’m gonna use your services again to be honest, but I thought I’d let you know that I didn’t like the service and I even calculated the night before with the rates and the mileage I should’ve spent no more than $60 but I calculated around 50 something dollars . I would just be more attentive to the customers even if you’re on the phone you can say hold on a second or put the person on the phone on hold thank you for the service, but not Happy about it.

Jose CThere is water leaks everywhere in the building the sixth floor is soaking wet, a customer was complaining about leaks on the fifth floor and I saw many tags on the sixth floor that said the unit has a water leak. Repairs need to be done to this facility.

Roberto GI made my order online and paid $7 for equipment. When I arrived to get the U-Haul I was told that there was no more in the store and I would have to buy the $10 one. So I agreed but then the bill still has the $7 deduction for an item I never received. The customer service rep said he would deduct the money from the item that wasn’t in stock but he did not.

Bienvenido RI specifically signed up for counter pickup because I did not want to go through the process of using the app, but the person at the desk gave me no choice. As soon as I told her I was picking up she directed me to a QR code which converted my pickup to a self directed one. Then, I had to re-enter all the information I had already put in the night before in an attempt to save time, and the system refused to accept my emergency contact. Overall it was a very frustrating process that took away rental time. I would not recommend the self service pickup to anyone.

I called uhaul to confirm this and I was told because I moved within the same borough I did not qualify for the free month. Why was I able to pick this option online if that isn’t the case. Besides this inconvenience my moving experience was with uhaul was a decent.

I have what seems like what was a window (I can’t. I get so angry just thinking about what my unit looks like). There is no handle on my unit to pull up the gate. I have to use my hands on the ridges of the gate. I want to cry. I’m going speak to the manager and advise him/her about this unpleasant experience.

MICHAEL J | Overall ExperienceAfter making my reservation with the call center to rent a box truck from Grand Concourse I was offered a storage unit with the first month free at the 138th street location. Upon arrival the clerk cancelled my reservation and told me it’s not free for the first month. I advised her this is what I was offered from the call center and when I clicked on the link that I received in a text it said the price was $244 and $0 due upon move in. I asked her why my reservation was cancelled and she could not provide me with a response. The manager then said he couldn’t find my reservation even though I provided him the reservation number and I was forced to pay full price for a unit. I am very disappointed with the way this situation was handled and the games that were played. The only reason I came to this location which is out of my way is because I was receiving one month free. I tried calling the call center last night and after 38 minutes on hold I finally hung up. I would like some sort of concession for my troubles. Not only am I at a location out of the way for me, but I was also forced to pay for a unit that I would have gotten at a different location and possibly different company that offers first month free.

After driving 4.5 hours with my loaded truck however, the day I need to move in I open my storage unit to find a gigantic concrete Pilar inside which means the square footage I would be paying isn't what I'm getting!! I was speaking with a lady at the desk about the matter and interrupted by a rude guy who cleans the trucks that said "you'll have to take that up with uhaul"...the fact that the unit was a total misrepresentation of what I was sold meant nothing to either of the representatives inside the store which I find absurd as I find it hard to believe that NOONE there INCLUDING THE RUDE CLEANING GUY knew about my unit as well as any other units that are sold qith concrete obstructions inside!! This matter I hope Upper management will correct at this location and urge them to treat uhauls potential customers with a bit more respect and provide better customer service as all this could have been avoided. I'm now paying for this room and one additional until I find another storage location that opens up with the total square footage that I need!!!

Nicholas P | Overall ExperienceI lost thousands of dollars worth of items I stored in the Uhaul storage unit due to the neighboring unit illegally storing gasoline. It leaked all over my storage items and I am extremely disappointed and sad considering I am a college student who will have a hard time replacing most of it. Not to mention, I am in dental school and had to store some books and notes that were destroyed. The manager did not respond in a timely manner at all and I had to even send him another email since he never responded to my first one. I understand that he may have been busy, but after I sent my second email to him he responded that he was aware of the incident.. so why not reach out to me or respond if he was aware? I am hoping to get a full reimbursement back. When I went to move my stuff out at night (bc it’s supposed to be 24/7 access) I was saddened to see it wasn’t opened bc the elevator wasn’t working. I would’ve appreciated an email from the storage facility letting everyone know that so I didn’t have to drive all that way just to have it closed. When we went the following day and had to deal with the gasoline all over my stored items, it was unbearably hot and proved that this facility unit is in fact not climate controlled. Overall, terrible experience and I will not be recommending any of my college friends or family to store with Uhaul.
