Roberto CThe furniture pads and dollys I ordered were not in the truck at pickup. I then had to wait until the store opened to receive any assistance. The employee was not very nice and then only gave me one of the two dollys I requested. Stating that they only do one dolly for one way rentals.
Scott JI have been using your vehicles and trailers for a long time. I am from california myself and have impeccable rental statistics. That said, this time I was denied a rental until I called and spoke to two individuals - backup contacts. Since it was 8 am in New York and 5 am in California, your employees woke up all my relatives with their calls, while I always use the same contacts and after 2-3 rent a car from already and did not check. Question: what is your service if you make your inconvenience not only your regular customers but also their family and friends I also note that although the car had only 9000 miles on it, the inside smelled horribly of cannabis, clean this car can only be called conventionally clean

ALEJANDRO OEverything this was great EXCEPT, the customer service of the shorter woman that works the register. She is very rude and acts as if she doesn’t want to be there. She was very unhelpful and seemed to proud of how unhelpful she is. My reservation started at 10 and I didn’t leave with a truck until 10:25 and I arrived at 9:50. When I walked in she said, you have to wait and walked away. When I was trying to get the keys from her, after she told me to go find my own truck in the parking lot, she was just holding them close to her but wouldn’t reach her arm out far enough for me to grab them. She talked on the phone to friends for minutes while I waited to get approved to go. She needs extra training or a new career. Everyone else was cordial and helpful. I didn’t want one bad apple to spoil the bunch so I rated higher than I wanted to.

Chrystal FThe associate was beyond unprofessional and needs to be fired, as she is a liability to the company: She didnt know how to troubleshoot and resolve rental appointments beyond simply telling customers to scan a faulty QR code. I scheduled a 9’ cargo van, and after the associate ran me in circles for AN HOUR scanning a faulty QR code and making me redo my appointment from her phone, she realized that my 9’ cargo van was unavailable because it was still occupied in Brooklyn. So she gave me a 15’ truck. I also heard her whisper to her colleague that it was the only one available because the door was broken. She INTENTIONALLY rented out a customer a FAULTY 15’ truck. I learned that the door did not stay closed while I drove. Also if a customer rents a 9’ van and you provide them with a 15’ truck, you should discount the service.

MELCO TThere was a person out in the lot, but she didn't come help me return the truck. I had to wait inside. The return web application is simply awful. I wanted to report that I received the van with a terrible spill and smell in the back, and it charged ME $25 for reporting that it needed to be cleaned. It needed to be cleaned when I picked it up, but I didn't have time to deal with it. The really good thing about this one is proximity to the NJ transit stop.
MATTHEW MI’ve worked with U-Haul on a couple occasions they’ve even done my move on a couple occasions as well. I’ve never heard of U-Haul getting into references, phone numbers and addresses and then to call those people like if I needed permission was beyond me. I never heard no ish like that . The person who was tending to me kept sniffling every 2 seconds litterlly and the manager her attitude was out this world . Needing references and calling them is some lil kid stuff . I deff took my business elsewhere . U-Haul will never have to worry about me again .

When I went to try and get another unit the next morning, the lady at the front desk was very rude and not helpful at all. She said they did not have an available unit at that facility and refused to help me find anything at another facility, telling me to “do it yourself.” I ended up calling the East Orange location where I had gotten the truck and they helped me find a unit at the Orange location. The reps at that location were very helpful. In my opinion, the Newark location is the worst in the area.

I can understand that this intercom may connect to the office but then there should be something that connects to a central customer service too. Horrible location, absolutely the worst reception staff very rude ladies there. Not a pleasant experience. I wasn't told about my lock and that I can find it in the unit. I had to buy a new one on my own only to realize that there is one already in the unit. I was charged insurance when I specifically asked not to, only to be told later that you "informed me later but now I've charged it ". I mean c'mon!

It was a hassle to get my family on the phone people work and cannot answer the phone. It took more than 30 minutes to call 3 references it waste and took away the time I needed to store things. I was on a schedule. So I would suggest a better reference system. Also most of my family lives out of state so there was also a time difference. Please reassess this procedure. DO BETTER

I didn't know that this would mean I had to access a heavy ladder just to put my items in the unit. I'm very disappointed with this situation. I had 4 guys who put my items in the unit. I was fearful they would pass out due to the unsafe conditions presented. I would like to speak with a manager or the owner about this as well as request changing my unit to a lower level. Additionally, there should be ac throughout the building.

The only downside was that the fourth floor was extremely hot, which made moving in a little strenuous. But, I think this would be solved by aiming to load/unload during cooler days.

She is very unprofessional no smile on her face or anything she makes you feel uncomfortable and don’t want to do business at that location, the other staff members there are great! They are helpful! They talk to you with respect and etc! But the Storage unit are very clean , the bathroom was very clean! It’s just very hot in there during the summer time. Other than that I give this location a 8! 🙂

I always have to wait until an early Saturday mooring to retrieve my items. You have a really awesome employee by the name of Rasheed, I believe I got the name right. He is worthy of a raise and trust me, I am not being paid to write this. He helped me every single time I moved my items, in/out of the storage room, if he was available to do so. My storage room was very dark on the inside and I found droppings on my boxes when I was moving out, so I know there were rodents roaming around my belongings Also, someone had some oil that dripped from their storage space into my space which could be the cause of that problem. The location is convenient and you have 3 good employees I've interacted with, unfortunately, I can only remember one person's name, because of how helpful he was.

And for the record I moved out on the 2nd of July bc I rented a truck to do so and let all 3 employees know I was moving out at that time then went to office Ana in to finalize my moving out and that it was clean. My only problem was that I called an hour before my arrival to be sure that the unit was ready (late afternoon 2:30pm) I was assured that it was ready. When I arrived the unit wasn’t ready yet. The assoc stated that he had to clean it out. He gave me my key and asked me to wait. I walked to the unit with a piece of furniture, the unit door was open, & the unit was lined with glue traps along all four walls and a live mouse on the trap. This was completely unacceptable. This should have been addressed before my arrival and before handing me my unit card. The assoc was there alone with a line of people. I don’t fault him, he was alone and was not the assoc that I spoke to prior to my arrival.

U-haul did not report what was the damage and put me in contact with another company, west rep. West rep informed that no damages was caused to my unit. When I opened my storage there were a lot of items missing (bed, table, bag, boxes), and west rep did not helped me at all. U-haul was always saying that did not have any responsibility. I wonder who I hired. Now I had to buy a new bed and furniture, and my clothes are all ruined. DO NOT RECOMMEND.

No one at the location (Newark Orange Street) answers the phone, the insurance company has not contacted me regarding a new unit and the damage assessment, and corporate doesn’t employ enough people to answer the phone in a timely manner - Call me ASAP (651) 260-3970. Having my belongs destroyed is stressful enough as it is but the atrocious customer service has made this experience much worse. Stay away from U-Haul.
