Mary J | First ImpressionsI had a hitch installed and had no choice but to wait for it to be completed. While I was waiting, there were employee conversations that no customer should here. Some were between employees about their pay, no raises (1 guy said he never got a raise since he has been there), discussing fees, etc. Another guy might have been a manager, as they openly discussed business tactics and even that manager was swearing 4 letter words. I can handle that, but not if I had any of my grandchildren with me. On a positive note, the installer was kind and respectful. Found a way to bundle my purchase without asking, which saved me $21. When he spoke to me, it was with respect, I liked that. It was only due to the installer that I give the store high ratings. The rest of the staff ignored my presence and was constantly stepping outside. Many times, the phone would ring and ring, but no one was at the desk to answer the calls. Now there were business opportunities lost due to no one answering the phone!

Derek BI appreciated the clerk helping me know how much gas I might need and to put in in on my way. That worked well. Driving away a little disoriented, I had the tow feature engaged most of the way. It might be helpful to mention that before departure. The signs in the cab do help though.

Joe PWhen I picked up the 9 foot cargo van, the gas gauge was at 1/3 filled so I ended up having to get gas not too far into my task. Also, the vehicle smelled like cigarette smoke and the low tire pressure light was on from the time I started the vehicle and the two front tires were very low.. 58 and 55 psi and back tires were at 80 psi. The van only had 7700 miles on it so I don’t think that it should’ve had this many issues for being a newer vehicle.

Wesley WI have found that the last two times I have rented the mileage was documented to be less than what it actually was. This means if I did not say something I would have been charged for 6 miles ( the first time) and 1 mile ( this past time) before I ever left the lot. What really appalled me this past time was the lack of concern for the customer and fixing a problem without spouting off snide comments and laughing. This was about the one and only handicap spot on the lot. It was taken up by a car parked halfway in the spot and shared with a handcart and a hose. This is completely unacceptable. When an employee asked me if there was a problem I said yes, this car is not handicap and I am mad. I had to park at the beer store, Nextdoor and walk ove to Uhaul. Again, unacceptable. When I saw the opportunity for an open spot I walked back to the beer store and moved my car. I called Wallkill Policeabout the the inappropriate use of the handicap spot. When I went inside the girl at the counter was all business and didn’t want to hear about it. I told her I was disabled and she said if there are no spots available I may park at the beer store. I told her unacceptable answer. She went on to speak with a coworker (like I wasn’t there at all), “it’s going to be one of those days. Rud, and she needs sensitivity training. The vehicle was moved quickly, when the officer showed up. So, I will go out on a limb and say it was an employee’s car.

Elizabeth HI had to use this location twice. I was given minimal information about the return of the vehicle. I called the customer service number and spoke with Michelle, Hudson Valley scheduling dept. what a turn around in my experience! I was given mileage info, days for truck and drop off location. When I arrived out of state to my location Michelle was able to change my drop off location. Michelle is knowledgeable, patient and pleasant. Although I no longer reside in the Hudson Valley, Michelle has continued to be my “go to” for all things U-Haul. Michelle absolutely made this a positive experience and is an asset to the company!
Melva SPicking up the vehicle was much faster than I expected, and went very smoothly. The same was true for returning the vehicle, and there were no surprise charges when the vehicle was returned. The same representative handled both the pick-up and return and he was very helpful and friendly and courteous on both occasions.

ZACHARY B | Online Move InThis ha been my worst experience with U-Haul. I booked my unit online the morning of 08/01. I made 2 trips to the unit during store hours, and both times I had to connect with the desk agents to gain access to the unit. My code was changed multiple times, and I was not informed of the new codes. I was given multiple access cards, and at this point I am not even sure if the card currently in my possession is the card that should allow access to the unit. The evening of 08/01, I arrived to drop off a final load for storage at about 9:00pm. I attempted to call the general manager, Jimmy Coscette, no less than 20 times using the number listed on the door (845-741-9077) between 9:15 and 10:30, and I texted the number four times between 9:14 and 10:00pm. We were on the phone with U-Haul customer support for at least 45 minutes, and while they were able to assist with providing us codes we still could not gain access. The U-Haul agent also attempted to contact Jimmy, and they were unable to reach him. I contacted Maximum, they were able to provide my code for access, but I was still unable to gain entry with the code they provided. Maximum also tried calling Jimmy as well as the district office without success. I was on a time constraint and had to begin my trip that evening to arrive at my destination because we were supposed to attend a funeral for one of my family members, so I had to throw hundreds of dollars in worth of my own possessions away instead of storing them in the unit. I contacted the district office the evening of 08/01 and let them know how upsetting this has been and that we needed someone to reach out, and we have yet to receive a response. This has been a horrible experience and I would never recommend storing with U-Haul to anyone I know based on the poor level of customer service and lack of ability to gain assistance when it was needed.

Unloading made difficult due to outside storage storage uhaul pods. Staff not fully trained. Unable to reach staff by phone during open hours. We had planned to Return the truck by then but were running behind. We stopped to ask about procedures after closing cause we had a full truck we had to move into the Unit. The woman at the desk was rude and not helpful. A man outside told us not to worry just to use the app for returning it after hours. At approximately 7:22pm the woman for the desk came to the storage building which we had a full truck back up to the doors. And locked the large automatic doors. She then proceeded to tell my brother to use the smaller side door and left. This was very inconvenient due to having large furniture which was difficult to get through such a small door. Then sign outside stated there was access to the building until 10pm. There was no signs stating the large automatic doors would be locked before that time. As a new customer I was very frustrated by this.

Bonnie R | Overall ExperienceThere was a couple of times the staff were rude and not willing to help. I had a day where I miss placed my locks keys, and needed the lock cut off. When I went to the office the one staff member said he couldn’t do it all though he was sitting there on his phone and he had to wait for his coworker that just went to the restroom. I waited almost an hour for them to cut the lock so I can put the new one on…. I went to the office and asked if the other staff member was still in the restroom and the one that “couldn’t help” said yes he’s still in there. I ended up having to leave to be some where and came back the next day. The next day when I came back the staff member that couldn’t help me , ended up helping me since he was the only one that could that was there. When I moved my items out I had to wait for the staff member to come and open my unit as the store removed my lock and put their own. The girl that helped was very rude and stated “my manager wants every thing out and gone” when she said this she had a nasty attitude. She was not a Pleasent person. It also took her a bit to go to the unit and take the lock off. The time that I had my unit there was 3 different managers. Thankfully the most recent manager is a very Pleasent and nice person! He is super understanding and willing to help in any way possible ! He responds in a timely manner and is willing to take the call. The manager before him was never there or never answered.

We called multiple times and could never speak to anyone at the local facility. When we made the trip up there for a lost key, we were told that they would call a locksmith and then call us to meet him and have the lock cut off. I later got the locksmith charge on my bill when the lock had not been cut and we had not been called. After being told the locksmith would come, I over heard the manager telling an employee just to tell customers in the future that they don't cut locks. After the $50 charge for nothing, the manager went and cut the lock himself. This is the Cliff's Notes version, but because of the lost key and locksmith situation, we didn't have access to the unit for months and basically only got the lock cut off in time for a move to another state.
