The 24/7 self pickup and drop off is the slowest most painful process and I will avoid it at all costs in the future

Helen CulbrethOnline reservation allows one to decline insurance coverage. No requirement to produce insurance carrier and policy number. At checkin counter, agent says declining requires policy info. Result: charged $11/day. Very dissatisfied that online system does't alert customer to provide info or bring to checkin. Very sleazy move to trick unsuspecting customers and squeeze more money by not being upfront. Very bad for your brand.

Kathleen MccarthyI filled out on line for the rental, once there, two manager types too busy BS with each other I had to wait in line for a “kid” to take down most of the information I I completed on line, while he sat eating a donut in one hand using one finger from other hand henpecking the keyboard!!! I mentioned faster to put down donut and use two hands or fingers on keyboard. Got a smile thought big joke……. Also 5x9 trailer not 5x9 it was 42” wide 40” at tailgate, had to come back to endure more lost time, one sharp worker mentioned some 5x9 larger, there was one 58” so I had to drive Hyannis to Orleans twice due not trailer being too narrow and lost lots of time @ U-Haul we don’t Hyannis!
Rob GallagherU-Haul truck was parked in the spot (very s mall spot for what is advertised) I reserved and paid for. It took over 40 minutes for staff to move the vehicle out of the spot. I went to exit the security gate only to find that a remote was needed to open the gate. I had no idea that a remote was needed. Never was offered. Even on the reservation page.

Douglas StewartOutdoor unit had plastic sheeting lining the ceiling of my unit. It decayed over the years and left fragments of decomposed plastic over everything leaving a mess. Wind came through over the walls with no seal at the ceiling so this caused your plastic sheeting to flap and disintegrate all the more quickly. Terrible design flaw for those outdoor units

BRIAN CASSIDYThis store needs a tremendous amount of work. Their call system is glitching. Selecting anything related to U-Boxes or current reservations literally hangs up on you. Selecting the option to make a new reservation is the only way to get into contact with anyone and then they don’t know how to forward you on to the applicable sectors. The moving company I worked with also said that working with the Hyannis location is their least favorite because it is always a hassle and they will have someone to help you out tomorrow. Not the day you have scheduled through the app or online. The only useful thing was the text support line. Those people deserve a raise.

Nancy DemlerRented a U-Haul truck to move my stuff out of U-Haul storage unit when I went to rent the truck the through the key at me and told me the truck was out back I walked all the way out there and the truck was blocked in so instead of moving the truck they gave me a different truck but the same paper work so if I got pulled over it would have been a nightmare very lazy staff ignorant they said they were from another store to straighten this one out what a joke and the new manager is never thier the girl Sara is excellent she is the one to straighten out the store I think the rest is on vacation and they should have driven the truck out front to me and stop being so lazy watch the cameras for a couple of days and you won’t see anyone working Sara is part time and she will do circles around all of them I rented for at least 5 -6 years paid a hundred dollars more were I’m at a 10x10 is $80.00 not $223.00 the guy that works the front should find another job. He defiantly is not going to straighten anything out he she start with himself he brought up that I took a claim out on him I told him he doesn’t know what he is talking about I paid for insurance my snap on toolbox tipped over cause the floor was so unlabeled very bad bet they don’t fix it I just lost my wife she past oct.7 2023 I don’t need any extra problems my kids would never talk they way they do to customers

He was very helpful in changing my appointment at my request and installed the trailer hitch within the time frame that he gave me. This is my second trailer hitch installed by UHaul at this location and I am very satisfied

Never have I been treated so badly by an employee, The store manager Barbara Kelley, came out and told the person who was checking out the vehicles to start charging us cleaning fees, The Vans were cleaner that when we picked them up. Then she became very aggressive and started personally attacking me the owner of the company by saying that if the Van is like this I cant imagine how your home would look. I have no words to explain todays experience. As I was moving a dolly out she grab it and throw it on the ground causing for both wheels to brake. that was a $200 piece of equipment. I am left speechless from today's experience.

I was told that I would get some adjustment for the filthy truck and no lock and engine light on. Nothing was done about this.. I have tons of work to do to get my move done. I don’t have time to follow up on this.
Gregory TurnerI retuned the truck at 9:30 am, within the time limit (and have photo with time stamp to verify), but when I received the receipt I saw they clocked me in at 12:30 pm and charged $40 for an extra day. No one answers the phone at the Hyannis facility, or rather it rings twice then drops. I’ve tried at least 20 times.
Patrick WatsonAfter giving me wrong information that ended up costing me an extra day of a truck rental, about $50 in gas, and the need to find a driver to drive my car back to the very destination I just left, this facility inexplicably overcharged me. After spending close to two hours on the problem, a manager, who was very nice, promised to fix the error and refund the overcharge. That was over a month ago and I have yet to receive the refund I would suggest if you use this facility, get everything in writing and look very closely at your contract and make sure to make a hard copy of your receipt right away.. They provide links to "live" receipts - meaning U-Haul can go into the receipt and change it. I think the U-Haul products itself are good and reasonable and I have used a couple of different ones. This one appears to play games with overcharges.

We had to wait till the next day so we could go back to Hyannis Uhaul to get them fixed. Which was costly to say the least. No compensation or discounts offered. Bad business practice.

The day before our move, you changed the rental location to one far away even after we confirmed the rental location via phone with your agent less than 24 hours before picking it up. You should have discounted our rental AND provided relief from the added mileage we incurred.

Scott Lane | Overall ExperienceThere wasn’t specific information about the split level unit, because when I googled it I had a different understanding based on pictures on a uhaul website (it made it look like part of the unit would be on the ground, and part would need to be accessed by a ladder, like split into 2 units within the unit if that makes sense - as opposed to the whole unit being up a flight of steps). So I couldn’t move one of the items of furniture in there because I was so physically worn out from the move. And I was told in the initial email it would be on the first floor so I had assumed it was the actual floor. I selected it because it looked like it was discounted but really it was just the normal price of that unit, it was confusing. If I had understood I would’ve paid for a first floor unit that was on the first floor.

Sara was very professional & accommodating, from my call, to in person contact on Fri, 4/14/23. She told me she wouldn’t be there when I arrived almost an hr later, but assured me, Tom would assign me my ‘new’ storage container. Low & behold, she was still there, due to being very busy & the 2 were bogged down w/all kinds of things going on, in & outside w/ppl. They’d even had an auction earlier! Sara was very calm, polite & friendly at all times, to everyone, despite the obviously stressful time she was immersed in...Well after she was supposed to have gone home! Tom was kept busy outside w/just sporadic moments in, to help Sara w/different ppl & issues, incl computer. I had to wait a good hr, myself, so had time to observe everything going on. And pretty much everything did, w/a wide variety of ppl w/numerous requests & problems. Tom was very friendly, smiling w/everyone, & disarming impatient ppl w/his friendly demeanor, as if it was just a regular day at the office. When clearly, it was not. They easily needed at least 2 more knowledgeable ppl on. When I finally got my much awaited storage, I walked right by the swiper, to the gate. I was just going to walk in, to see my spot. So just passed it. Back inside, Sara, finally leaving, told me ‘the yellow post’. But again, I just went for the gate!😂 There were numerous returned rentals lined up I walked around, so I guess on foot, I just didn’t see it. I went in again, now to Tom, holding down the fort solo. Knowing I’d been there a very long time, he finished w/his customer & immediately came out to show me the ‘yellow post’ Sara told me it was on...Before the gate!LOL We both had a good laugh & I again thanked him very much, while telling him how great they both were under so much pressure, when so short handed. I called them ‘the dynamic duo’! And certainly were! They obviously have a good working relationship & their personalities complement each other well. Not 1 being laid back & the other more tense, under stress. It could have easily been 2 nervous, tense nellies, that would have fed into some antsy, impatient ppl waiting. Everyone kept cool, all around. I engaged a couple ppl for distraction, myself. My one complaint has nothing to do with them. The back gate is broken. Wide open. What’s the point of ppl thinking their storage is safe behind locked gates? Especially w/prices stretching some pocketbooks. I’m a senior, myself. My unit is close to that wide open gate. I can easily be seen from well outside it. If I’m there later, do I feel safe w/no one else outside close by? NO! We, as customers paying for a ‘secure’ service, should feel our belongings are safe, yes. More importantly, WE should feel safe, when at our units, alone. Upon my retun today, I also returned scissors I had to go back inside yet again for, yesterday, B/C my new unit had a zip tie on. In a hurry to leave, I forgot to return them! 3 Different ppl were there, w/just 1 client, in an empty place! The 2 guys I spoke with said it was a very slow day. Told them they were definitely needed the day prior! Returned the scissors & asked about the gate. I was told by Sara it wasn’t working right, but I didn’t expect it to be wide open, totally non functional. Both guys said it’s a regular problem w/it. I said I didn’t think it was right & I would be there a lot, solo. And will be concerned. I rented thinking it was going to be secure for both people & their things. I would think U Haul makes enough money to keep their gates working well at all times. Why pay extra for after hours, if you can just go in? Worse, if it’s late, dark & you’re alone in that area of Hyannis. No thank you! I went to Sun Self Storage a couple days prior & no question that was secure. For everyone & everything. They were even less $. UHaul is closer & for $20 more w/all the back ‘n forth w/things, I went w/UHaul. If I’d known there is a regular problem w/a broken gate right at my unit, I would have gone further for $20 less, + a Sr discount & no required ins costing more on top of rental fee. Guess I’m glad I’m paying the extra for ins here, now that I know there’s no gate secure storage at this location. If something happens to a customer, especially at night, cameras, if working, are not going to help prevent it. Especially when so close to the exit. A SECURE gate will. They don’t seem to care it’s a regular issue. I’m retired from working w/NYC crime. It all happens very fast. I’ll see how long it takes to fix. And STAYS fixed, since I was told it may only last a day or 2. And I’ll keep my eye open for another locale I will feel safer at. I need storage for a little while. Same size is no longer avail at Sun.

I was under a very stressful situation ,had to be moved out of the place I lived at within 5 hours, a near impossible task. I told her how much stuff and what kind of things I had and at least I got the right size truck. She made no mention of the moving company being out of state and there was no way to personally get hold of them. I was under a lot of stress and not able to navigate emailing them at cetera. The movers were very careful and considerate in moving when they finally arrived an hour later than scheduled. I understand it wasn't their fault as they came from out of state and hit traffic. Would be nice to know that if Uhaul was going to recommend movers they would pick somebody closer more local. The storage unit however was half the size of what I needed. And so by the time I went to move in the next morning the larger unit was no longer available. And so I had to rent a second unit costing me more out of my budget and Uhaul offered no discount no apology no nothing. The 2nd gentleman that tried to help was Grumpy and very snappy, matter of factly with me. I get you probably hear a lot of sob stories but when people are under a lot of stress it would be nice to have more of an empathetic ear.

Even as staff and managers were told on a monthly basis I still paid my monthly price and had to endure another rate hike before the door was fixed. 3 Your increase letter always stated the increase was due to daily checks of the grounds a d sweeping between rows of units. I never noticed the area had been swept. I am sorry to say but sometimes the truth hurts. Having to be living on Cape Cod one only has so little to choose from of course.

The locks are all busted up the staff have no clue how to look up stuff on the computer. I was told I would get an extension on the truck and still brought it back that day to see I was still charged that extra day. How can you stit there and tell me you see it was extended just to go back and charge me. Your facility is terrible and the staff need to be retrained oh and I do have pictures of the incident if needed.

When i got to the unit there had been clear damage to the front door. The handle was completely rusted and i was (and still am) unable to access the unit. There was also a giant dead Hawk lying right next to the unit. When i called to find an alternative unit nothing was available. I had to find storage with another company. I will be cancelling this reservation and expect a refund for the first months fees as i have been unable to access the unit entirely.
