Our whole experience with Uhual was HORRIBLE with the exception of the final person we spoke to in customer services days after we needed to get into storage. The Lynchburg General manager did not pause for a few minuets to even try to fix the situation and ignored our calls. We would recommend going else where if you can!

There was terrible communication from the Call center to the physical locations that cause my family and I to be out in the cold for 4 hours with no resolution to the problem because NO ONE would answer a phone to rectify a problem that was caused by the lack of communication at UHAUL! I rented a 20' truck in Hampton which was one way to Lynchburg VA with a storage unit added on so that we could unload our stuff and return the truck in the same day. When I booked the original reservation over the phone on Dec 13th I was told that the Lynchburg site would be open until 5pm after asking David (the rep) specifically about the holiday schedule. I called again on Dec 19th and spoke with Ian to change that reservation from a trailer to a 15' truck and confirmed that the storage reservation was still attached for pick up and return at 5pm and still was not told that the physical locations would close on the 24th at 1pm. I arrived to the Hampton location on December 22 to pick up the truck were I ended up changing to a 20' truck and asked again about the holiday hours and was told the the location would be open until 5pm on Sunday the 24th. We arrived to the Lynchburg Location at Timberlake only to find that the location was closed. There was no signage to indicate the store was closed nor were there holiday hours posted. I stood and waited thinking someone may have had to close the door for a break, but after no one came and other customer were standing outside for several minuets, I called customer service to find the location had closed an hour prior to my arrival at 2pm. After several hours of speaking with different departments who all just keep passing me around, I spoke to someone who claimed she was speaking by text with a manager and schdule a storage unit at a alternative Uhaul location which we had to pay 109.00 dollars for despite the fact that we were eligible for a FREE month of storage for renting the truck. We then drove the Uhaul, our personal truck, and our movers to the Park Ave location only to find that the access code that had been provided to us did not work. We attempted to call Quwana Woods, the posted contact, multiple times who's phone went straight to voicemail as if she were ignoring the calls. We then attempted to call customer service back to attempt to rectify the NEW problem only to be told there was nothing she could do to help us. Left with no other option we drove the truck still loaded with all of our belongs to a family members house an hour away. We finally found an alternative place to store our belongs in South Boston Va on Christmas day and had to leave the truck at a differnet location due to the distance we were from Lynchburg. I spoke with someone yesterday who was very helpful and was able to adjust for the additional miles and change the return location for us which we were very grateful for. However, there was nothing she could do about the 90.00 of gas we had to put in the truck because we didn't know where we were going, the time we had to pay the movers for that didn't even get to unload out stuff, and the time we spent going in circles to get the truck dropped off on time. To top the cake, after I paid 109.00 for the additional unit and requested it be refunded. I recieved a late notice from Qwana Woods for a storage I NEVER ACCESSED and was charged an additional 15.00! Yall need to do better. It would have taken just a few minuets for someone to retify the situation or at least extended the reservation and miles or just fix the access code that didn't work. And the storage charge is still on my credit card. SMH

matthew t | Overall ExperienceThey have someone that's been living in the back storage unit in the corner for years and the GM put her hands on my baby daddy to wake him up and tell us we had to move out they were aggressive and rude the GM cussed in our face and called us names that was the rudest person there our code to get in was deactivated then she kicked us out 2 days later I am pregnant and payed for my stay and they had no right to open our unit and tell us to leave after physical encounter with us while we were asleep I will be reporting them and attempting for a law suit due to forced eviction in one day we are required a minimum of a 3 day notice and for assault on my baby daddy and an invasion of privacy

Darrel W | First ImpressionsThe reason I rated it one star is because this company wouldn't work with me as far as a payment plan to where I can pay what I can to keep my things because I had lost my job that's when I got behind on my storage payments, I didn't start my new job until Oct 2 of this year so there way no way I can pay the full balance off right away and as far recommended U-Haul to a friend i would yes when it comes to making reservations for the truck when moving day comes around etc and storage it's fine when keeping your items and I'm saying no I wouldn't recommend the storage keeping tona friend on the payment part because this company is not understanding and lacks empathy when someone gets behind on payments because of a job loss etc etc things happen when people get behind on payments and not working on helping the person on a payment plan so the person can help keep their items in storage unit to where the person can pay what they can afford to pay at a time until the person is caught up on the storage payment

However , it was not a good experience for the few months that I had this unit. Several times tried to gain access to the unit and could not because it was blocked by moving trucks. This was frustrating to say the least. Even in the day I come to move out I had to wait for the attendant to move a truck.

jacob b | Overall ExperienceFrom my first day moving in I have had several negative interactions with this particular storage facility. My initial reservation was removed from the system and the unit I secured online was given to someone else. Luckily enough there was a unit available, smaller but available. The rate increased twice in less than a year with only mild improvements. My items were damaged as a result of the renovations that are happening. There was horrible dust and so many insects in the unit, I'm guessing because the building itself is so old. If the main door was closed the side doors were not easy to open or could not be opened (even with following the procedure). Some of the staff are very rude and unfriendly. While the manager did what she could to mitigate some of these interactions I still had an overall horrible experience.

Eventually I was told there was nothing they could do. Was then asked to open the unit to add MORE wires through it for three days. Brick walls were falling apart and ruined a good portion of my things. Very disappointed in the cost of storage at this location and the condition of the building is terrible. I am extremely disappointed in the locations services and facilities.

However the facilities were sub-par to other uhaul storage locations and other storage facilities I have used, and at move in I found out the elevator is permanently broken which is NOT covered on the website, fortunately staff was able to move me from the 4th to the 3rd floor but I had to call in 3 friends to help me move in since we had to carry everything up the stairs and my leg is broken and still in a cast. Also there were visible rodent droppings on the stairs and in the building, the storage unit itself had 2 large rat traps taking up space in 2 of the 4 corners, the units are made of plywood and staples coming out and can easily be taken apart to gain entry, not very secure at all. I considered not moving in as planned that day but didn't have much choice due to limited options in the area and needing to move in that day as planned... Also found out my renters insurance doesn't cover rodent damage which is my main concern after looking at the facility, so I had to get the uhaul storage insurance making it even more of an expense than planned. May have to look for a better storage solution ASAP. Not the staffs fault, but absolutely nowhere near the higher quality uhaul experiences I have had when using your services in the past.

I went in March 2021 with a crew and truck to move out of my unit. Elevator was broken. I asked for alternative solutiins becsuse my crew could only work so many hours. After that I would need Uhauls' help. Nothing. Not even an attempt to resolve CG the matter. All year I moved stuff out of ny unit. Go in March 7th 2022 with crew and truck ty o move completely out. Same thing all over again. When a mention of movers; the communication was not complete. Therefore no resolve. I feel as if I was forced to stay on location for an entire year. I want a full year's refund simply because no resolve was even being made to resolve the situation.

jeff M | First ImpressionsThe indoor facility is very falsely advertised and if I would have seen the inside before booking I would have taken my business elsewhere. The indoor units are made of cheap material that someone could easily break through with a roof of chicken wire. When I tried to access my unit, my card to get in wasn’t working and the manager was annoyed that they had to come in early and help me, but didn’t even fix my card just opened the one door and said I better keep that open and left. Lastly, after making the reservation and checking-in in person, they asked me if anyone told me that the elevator was broken. I was never informed about it as I would not have selected the 4th floor unit with a whole house of furniture to move up there. Sadly, I did not have my moving truck long enough to find a new location and move it there so I’m stuck. Thankfully my family was able to help me move in but myself along with all the members of my family that saw the terrible place and experience will ensure to tell people to take their business elsewhere.

And I was also told by call centers, if I had lost my key, someone on site would have bolt cutters. When asked, they said "no, they don't do that". And when I asked to do a final walk thru, while I was there, since I no longer lived in the area, the person in charge looked like she was being put out. I wanted a walk thru so I can make sure there would not be any extra charges.
Terry P | Overall ExperienceI booked a rental unit for this location online, signed the rental agreement paid the fees and received a confirmation with an access code and instructions to my rental unit. I drove all the way from Chattanooga to Lynchburg thinking I have a rental unit, only to come to this location and have to deal with the awful staff. I went into the store to request help, as the access code texted to me was not working. The staff at this location lacked the very basic understanding of customer service - the lady at the counter would not even offer to help or at least start by gathering some basic information from me (name, reservation number, etc) - she kept on saying U-HAUL has a nationwide system failure and they have no units available and that my reservation was an error. She spent more time and energy saying there is nothing she or anyone else can do to help me rather than just take 3 minutes to look up my information. Appalling! A young man with an airpod in his ear chilling in this chair was initially interested in helping me, but lacked even the basic understanding of how an online reservation works. Both of them started to say I need to look for another U-haul location (again neither of them even bothered look up my information). I kept on saying, please help me I drove here all the way from chattanooga, I have a unit reserved here. Unbelievably poor customer service - or should I say no customer service! Disheartened I left and was making calls in the parking lot when the facility manager approached me. She asked for my name and offered to help me. AGAIN, JUST THE FACT THAT THIS MANAGER ASKED FOR MY NAME AND RESERVATION INFORMATION - IT'S A MIRACLE! She looks up my information confirms my reservation, hands me the keys to my unit. I am sure the manager alone can run the whole place by herself and she probably does. But, that not promising, if she was not there or did not happen to see me frustrated in the parking lot, then there was no hope to resolve my issue - the two employees at the counter who were too incompetent to do basic information gathering and problem solving would have caused a much more unsatisfied customer for U-haul. Another note, your lack of employee training (which the manager offered as an excuse for her teams performance is not the customer's problem). You are charging a fee to offer a service - here is a tip - offer the service you charged me for. I picked U-HAUL because it's a national company and comes with certain amount of standardization. This location and the crew I dealt with obviously are not part of the national standards. I do not recommend this location.

Showed up to check in in preparation for a big moving day where we were going to store several commercial pieces of equipment. Once informed the freight elevator was broken with no estimation of repair date, I was leased a different space with the note that the door was just "hard to open". Later when I came with a truck to unload, I was told that the door was actually off the track and could not be closed! Again, no estimate of when it would be repaired and no other adequately sized units. I was left scrambling with several employees to coordinate to find another storage facility that could get us in immediately. Unbelievable! I must emphasize that the two ladies who helped me were very accommodating and kind and did everything they could. This is a management/ownership problem and they're stuck dealing with the fallout. This is some of the worst service I've ever encountered and I will not be keeping my units here.

Attempting to retrieve boxes to move into new home was even more difficult with initial request made Sunday was told a 24 hr notice is required so I requested the next business day and didn’t plan to pick up until approximately 28 hours later and had kept a rental truck from outside vender for towing these u-boxes specifically. When I called to let them know I would be there in about an hour I was once again told it would be an additional 24 hr notice because they did not have request noted in system and did not offer retrieve recording of conversation that would show I had in fact made the request. Instead I was told it would be yet another day and couldn’t be certain it would be within 24 hrs but would rent me a truck (that I had to pay for). The truck was reserved for noon (odd to do when you can’t guarantee the boxes would be out of the warehouse by then but I said okay. I realized I would be able to get to uhaul by noon so I called to let them know and was told, “that’s fine, you can come whenever, the unboxed haven’t been pulled out yet”. So I told them I would be there at 6pm. Called again on the way and was told they would take my number and call me back at their earliest convenience, no call back, got there and about 5 staff members were sitting there talking to one another with no other customers and no one on the phone and I find out that they don’t have any trucks but it wasn’t the right truck for someone who didn’t want to unload the box at the store which I had previously told them I did not, spent almost an hour there just to leave without my stuff (all my stuff, beds, etc) with the impression that a truck to haul the unboxes would be reserved for me to pick up at 6pm the next day. I get there at 6pm on WEDNESDAY only to find out that once again, they did not have the correct rentals for me to get the unboxes but would rent me a trailer that holds one of the two boxes which I did cause it was yet another hour in the store and another day with no bed to sleep in. This costing me another trip the next morning cause they wouldn’t be there that evening for me to come get the second one. When I got there this morning (Thursday) I had called on the way thinking they would at least have it ready for quick pick up after wasting hours upon hours of my time and me having no bed to sleep on but again sat there for another hour waiting for box to be move out of warehouse, covered with protective cover and put ok trailer. Overall horrible experience and the manager was unapologetic for the significant inconveniences, almost seemed annoyed as if I made gross errors and inconvenienced him.
