frances r | Overall Experience40 mins into our cross country trip the Uhaul's rear axel broke. We were left stranded on the side of the road with animals for 10 hours. Road side assistance said the vehicle had the issue for awhile which should have been caught by Uhaul and could have been prevented. Ended up in a hotel and had to have all items moved into a new Uhaul. Worst move and experience.
Lisa EI was charged a fuel charge even though I put gas in the truck before dropping it off. I actually put more gas than what was in the tank when I picked it up

Danielle SAfter pickup via the app failed at multiple points, and the truck I was directed to was gone, I went in and had to wait while one person handled the line. I was given a truck the size I ordered, but with torn seats, the drivers seat adjustment mechanism was broken, the passenger front fender wasn’t fully attached, the passenger door wouldn’t open all the way, the driver door vibrated and whistled in the wind if I went above 40. It was the worst truck I’ve ever rented.

Gary HThe auto hauler trailer I rented had a tire with a separated belt and a scallop in the tread, but it was a small area and not easy to see unless you lifted it off the ground and spun the tire so it's not the fault of the U-Haul folks at this location. I looked it over good before I took it and didn't see it. Felt a minor vibration on the road and stopped several times and checked everything, tried to wobble the tires, made sure the lug nuts were tight (they were tight), inspected what I could see of the tread, found nothing wrong. I kept stopping and checking but never found anything until finally on the 4th or 5th stop the bad spot on the tire was on top and exposed and I finally saw it, it must have been underneath and not visible every other time I checked. Anyhow, U-Haul sent someone to change the tire and all was good.
JOHN HA person needs a folly to move. And to listen to the representative tell myself and others that had reservations for one they they did not have one for us was very frustrating. So much so I would not rent from this location again.

Alsoooooo those trucks eat up gas like no tomorrow we had to fill it up like 4 times. It should be like 20 bucks an hour or something. Cause 98 cents for a mile is so much. Also yall should pull test drives on the trucks before customers use it cause the mirror was a bit fucked up and the check engine light was on.

Tony OGirl at the check in terminal did not appear to like her job. Didn’t welcome us nor thank us for our business. Trailer was dirty and surge brake did not work. Tech didn’t check the surge brake. It took nearly 1/2 hour for the tech to come out and check us out. Note: he was available inside standing around doing NOTHING. Tech was grouchy and seemed put out that he had to come outside to check us out. Didn’t even thank us for our business. Glad we’ll never have to deal with this location again.

SANDRA KThe truck I rented looked haggard, with faded and peeling paint on the outside. Inside the truck seemed old. Truck advertised as $29.99 but after all charges I paid $85. That is a lot of extra charges. Drove the vehicle 20 miles, was charged for 4 gallons of gas. Either that is not accurate or your truck gets 5 miles to the gallon. Either way is ridiculous. Positive note, the location is convenient, the truck was ready at the appointed time, and the service was very friendly.

The elevator, the only one, was inoperable, and staff said it would be weeks before it would be fixed. This made it ridiculously difficult to move items out. Ownership should be discounting fees during this time. The only access is a very steep and narrow set of steps to the 3rd floor, good luck if you have any large items. And, there is never any carts available. Just save yourself the trouble and go to another facility.

Once checked in, we got no instructions on how to access the unit, that we needed to generate a code, where the unit was, and that the unit was actually a 6X8 unit, not 8X8. We had to pay hundreds of dollars while movers waited around. We will be adding more items in a week or so, and may need the extra space we contracted for. I'd appreciate a call at 919-819-2786

I wish somebody would have taken note that I had bought a storage unit and a van, with a return time on the van being after access hours, and that they would’ve mentioned “hey, here are our access hours” so on and so forth. Instead, I was left confused pushing every help button (which didn’t work) and calling every number (with no answers). I ended up having to take all my stuff back to the place I was leaving. Some of my stuff is still in the apartment, some was shoved into my car, some had to be left outside. It was an exhausting, frustrating, and disheartening experience. I want to be kind because I understand how difficult a job in this field can be but I’m upset about how poorly this went.

On the first day of moving things into the storage, the lift was not working functionally. We asked an associate, who was very helpful, but she could not get it to work either. The general manager was agitated and dismissive in conversation, as if we were inconveniencing her day. Will not recommend nor will my husband and I be using u-haul again for our moving essentials.

They also are indoor units that have mice. I just asked for a refund because the unit was so poorly Kept. I will stick to just using the trucks because the storage facilities are not up to par.

First major intrusion was a waiter leak obtain my belongings, but it was quickly addressed and no harm done. The second multi year fiasco was when I put somemajor home woodworking there for what I thought was going to be maybe a year or two.. these tools collectively weigh over one thousand pounds and were tucked away dry on the third floor went to get them a few years back only to discover that the elevator serving that side of the building was out and I'd learnitv works be out while parts were being made. This was a multi-year problem that was only remedied earlier this year. What insulted me and no doubt others was that I had to find out the hard way, and to ask redress for relief for payments for storage I could not access. It took about a year to get parts, installed, city approved. Much of my consternation could have been avoided if uhaul had been proactive.asimple letter explaining the issue, timeline to fix and my options. Losing trust in a vendor because they fail to communicate proactively an issue that affects me was unacceptable. I should not have had to push for relief or learn about by trying to move my tools out. It will cost me several hundred dollars to replace all the belts, lube honest, sharpen cutter blades on my bed joiner and table saw and clean and lubricate all steel surfaces, removing oxidation from work surfaces. Needless to say, while the location was good and the fees fair, the multi year fiasco of no elevator was poorly handled. Sincerely Pete Dawson
peter d | Overall ExperienceAfter being a loyal and upstanding customer, I was both shocked and appalled at the fact I had a red lock on my unit. After asking the associate at the desk for assistance I was told that I would have to wait till Monday. I would not stand for this. After reaching out to essentially a hero for the common folk, I was able to get the lock removed. Not by the staff I had trusted with the safety of my belonging I hold near and dear to me, but a man of the night, or in this case, day. I will be sure to spread the word to my friends, family and citizens of the state of Virginia to not do business with this "establishment". I couldn't be more grateful to be out of this situation.

I was charged fir a full extra month that I did not need or want. I had tried to terminate my contract. I think the staff intentionally dud not respond to me so they could charge me one more month. And the garage door to access the storage units is broken, making it difficult to bring in furniture through the small door. I would absolutely not recommend this location. Terrible customer service.

The driveways to the storage unloading is small and the uhauls don’t fit up the ramp to the upper floors. There are no clear direction on which door leads to the second floor or vs the first floor. Deborah H | First ImpressionsThe only issue I have with the establishment is that there is no storage for people with motorcycles or scooters accommodations need to be made for people with motorcycles and scooters because when people are moving from one place to another sometimes they need to store these kind of vehicles until they get settled other than that the only other issue I have is if you go into the storage unit at night sometimes the lights will shut off in the building forcing you to wander around in the dark until you move in the right place and they come back on I believe they are motion sensored lights but that can be dangerous at night if you're in there moving stuff and they happen to go out I've had this happen on two or three occasions where I be moving stuff in or out and the lights go out forcing me to wander around until I hit the sensors that activate the lights to come back on other than that I find no fault in the establishment at all

They were unable to unlock it due to rust and it took an hour for the issue to be resolved. Outside of this issue, everything else went very well and I am pleased with my unit and the cleanliness of the place.

When I got off elevator and arrived Within an hour another customer at moved into my storage and placed their lock on my paid storage. I could not get through to the front office via phone so I had to leave my items on the elevator and walk to the office. Once I arrived I was told I had to wait until the lady who helped me get off of lunch. I explained my things are on the elevator we have already been here for hours can you just give me another unit. I was told I had to wait. The lady comes back and tries to figure out what is going on. This takes over an hour. The store manager was called and advised they cannot do anything for me. I had to take a smaller unit or pay a lot more the bigger. I explained I do not have the money. I am a single parent and already stretched with funding. I contacted corporate Uhaul and spoke with the supervisor and was on the phone for 45 min. The supervisor spoke with the cashier after we waited 20 min for her to get on the phone because she would not get on the phone. The employee lied to corporate and told the lady the customer will be there any min to get in storage and remove their belongings from my storage so I can move in. The corporate supervisor said there is nothing they can do but she will notate the account to contact the regional manger. I had to wait another 1 hour for the people to get there then a longer time to remove their items so my things can be moved in. We spent a total of over 5 hours. I was met with an attitude and disrespect. This is outrageous. I have never been treated this way by a company. The manger had no regard for customer service or cared and the employee continued to cut me off and not allow me to talk. I would like someone from corporate to contact me back. Other customers had to wait hours to use the one elevator because our belongings were stuck on the elevator with no where to go. The is unacceptable. Please investigate and take proper actions to remove the manger and employee at the establishment.

Unfortunately, there’s always a ton of homeless people milling around outside and trying to follow you in and the big garage doors don’t close right behind you. I had a guy try to take stuff while I was making trips between my unit and my vehicle, and the ramps to the second level aren’t fit for anything larger than a sedan, so I had to park on the street. This place is in need of an update and needs a security guard to watch the back ramp doors. Additionally, 24/7 access and 24/7 security should be a thing at every U-Haul. Like I said though, the staff are great and doing their best. I had zero issues with staff and Autumn was always a pleasure to talk to. I think any storage place in Norfolk is bound to have the same security issues.

Cant fit uhaul into the storage area and even a normal car is a very tight fit. The 'gate' is broken and not fully.closed and looks.like it's been pried open on the bottom. Zero stars. The uhaul storage in VA Beach is leaps and bounds better than this norfolk location.

Although inconvenient, it would not have been a problem if the 3rd floor unit had better stairwell access. Due to the narrow stairwell entrance, we were unable to move any large pieces of furniture into the unit. Due to this, my couch is now sitting in my fiancé’s apartment. There is also no indication that the elevator will be fixed anytime soon which makes removing my belongings a a nightmare. I would not have rented the unit if I had known about the access issues. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Much of it got broken as I attempted to do so. Some kind of notification should have been given especially since they still accepted full payment of the storage rent! Also there were rat droppings on most of my belongings! I had to throw a lot of it away. Climate control is overstated as here is no control on the 2nd floor! This was a waste of money for a whole year!
