The process for mobile pickup was absurd. We had to supply 2 alternate phone numbers of people who were not in our party to confirm an identity. I took at least 3 photos of my drivers license to upload. I took a selfie to confirm my identity. There has to be a more streamlined way to do this - it took over 45 minutes from arrival at the location to actually getting the truck on the road because of the administrative hurdles.Christopher R.

Uhaul does not mention anywhere when signing up for the self service, that you need to provide documentation like a lease, passport, etc, or have 2 people to verify you are who you say you are, before you can get the keys to the rental. Uhaul only mentions to go to the location you are going to pickup your self-service Uhaul vehicle and then follow the instructions at the link they provide. For example: I was in the middle of moving, so I took an uber to the location after hours, click to follow the instruction with that link once I get there. The issue is, Uhaul then asks for verification for who you are, either by a lease agreement, passport, or something other than a drivers license, and or 2 people to verify your identity. By not mentioning this before I went to the location, I did not have my passport, or any other documentation, like a lease, bill, or anything other than my drivers license. The other option was to have 2 people, at the ready, to answer a phone call from Uhaul to verify who I was. No where in any of terms and documentation before or even after you reserve a rental, so I didn't bring my passport, lease, bill or any of the documentation required for verification. I had digital copies online I could have used in form of images or pdf, however this is the other issue, there is no option to upload an image or pdf. The only option provided was to take a photo and it accesses your camera. So now this leaves me with the final option, to provide the names and number of two people that can verify who I am. Having not mentioned that either in any of the documentation until I am at the pickup location, I didn't have anyone at the ready and available to do so. I live alone and my nearest family is in a different timezone. So this leaves me sitting in a dark parking lot of a storage facility, at night after hours, with no transportation (because I took an Uber), in the cold and no way to verify who I am to pick up the rental I scheduled. This next issue is upon calling support, I was on hold for about 50 min, sitting on the curb in a dark parking lot, in the cold, which delayed all the other plans I had. The final complaint I have is upon returning the van I had rented, it instructs me to drop the keys in the dropbox at the location. The issue with this, is that the only lockbox/dropbox is the one I got the keys from, which had no opening or slot to just drop the keys back in the lockbox. Upon pickup of the keys, I was given a 4 digit code to access the lockbox, which is only given/accessable to view when picking up the keys. It never mentioned you have remember/save that code to return the keys. After hours of loading and unloading stuff from the van, of course I didn't remember the code that was given to me hours before, because I never knew I needed it to return them. The code was not provided upon trying to return the keys and there was no options to go back and see the code that was originally provided. I called Uhaul support again and was on hold for about 55 min, until I eventually hung up because with my background security, I know how to open a locks without keys. I was able to open and relock the box successfully. Long story short, this was honestly the worst experience I ever had dealing with any company. You didn't disclose that the renter will need to bring certain documents to verify, or that they would need at least two people available on the phone, for verification prior to arriving for pickup, nor did you provide means to upload a digital copy of the verification documents. Your phone/chat support wait is useless for self-service individuals if there is an issue, due to the wait time. And lastly you didn't provide a means to return the keys, because the lockbox code wasn't provided upon return of the keys, nor provide a link back to the code or state you had to remember it. I wouldn't recommend self-service Uhaul or probably even Uhaul in general, to anyone. It cost me an additional 2 hours of my time and additional transportation cost to get a ride back home, due to how late I arrived back.Alexander G.

The truck I was given had in excess of 113k miles on it and obviously was showing a lot of wear on the engine. The steering was scary as there was a lot of play in it at high speeds. At the end of the day I accidentally locked the keys inside the truck after drop off and found that the U-Haul location did not have a "spare" key. I was informed that this was a common occurrence with other renters as well, hence it begs the question, why no spare key at the office? I had to pay $85 out of pocket for a locksmith, besides the $270 for the rental fee. This was my first time renting with U-Haul and it was a horrible experience. I will never rent with U-Haul again and will opt for other options which I found were cheaper and have better customer service.AMITOJ S.

Fix cargo Van's broken window before putting it back into operation. While it wasn't a problem to drive, if a stone hit the windshield during the drive, it could shatter and put the passengers in harms way.ERRICKLEWIS A.
My cargo van was at location but 24/7 access was not working. When I clicked pick up vehicle on app, I got message to come back the next morning. I called 800 number and after on hold for 50 minutes, was told that keys were not available and that a manager would be calling about $50 guarantee. Rep said she would transfer me to reservations to find a van near me that was available, but call was dropped. I tried 800 number again but could not even get in hold queue so I gave up. Have not received phone call or credit. Not sure if issue was location or UHaul.MICHELLE L.

The truck's back tires had low pressure. I brought this to the attention of the employees but they didn't care, they insisted that â€œwe just checked that truck last weekâ€ and that everything was fine. She told me to clear the message and ignore it. I fixed the issue myself because the rear tires were at 54 and 55 PSI, well below the recommended pressure.Christopher M.

You need to let the customer know that the online check in after hours needs to be done before turning in the key. I had already put the key in the box before filling out the form and had no way to take pictures or get mileage numbers. I did not know that the form would be so involved and detailed.Sheryl G.
