The heating system in the truck did not work well at all. The truck had just over 12,000 miles and when the temperatures were in the single digits for a couple of days, it's not comfortable without adequate heat.KRISTOPHER V.

I had originally asked to pick up the truck at another location; Paper Party House, at 633 Warren Avenue in Portland ME. I never received any notification that my pickup location would not be there, so I went to the Paper Party House location, and was told that my truck was at Pleasant Hill Auto. That was fine, but I wasted time going to the wrong place because I was never updated that my original pickup location wasn't going to work.GREGORY S.

Arrived 10 mins before 5 pm after a long day moving parents into assisted living. As I pulled into lot, attendant turned off lights. I went to door and said I was checking in. He told me to do it outside thru drop box. So I did. In the cold while he was still inside. I pulled out of the facility at 5pm.Ellen C.

The reservation process is absolutely terrible! I needed a 7:00 am reservation, booked it online from the location needed, got a call that I needed to pick up at a different locale.. which was fine. However, the new location did not open until 8:00am abd did not have my reservation!! I wasted more than an hour waiting, calling and trying to figure out what to do!! I found the after hours on-line return process annoying. Especially the part of having to photograph your mileage and fuel, the cab of the vehicle, the cargo area of the vehicle, and the parking space. I suppose after one does this once, and expects it for their next rental, it's not so bad. But it was dark and cold and I found it annoying. The $20 convenience fee if you don't do this is too high. Perhaps $10.00 would be adequate.DAVID S.

The person working on site was very rude and disrespectful. He was offensive and showed very little desire to help. I rent U-Haul on a weekly basis and that was my worst experience to date. I will not return to this siteTOMER K.
The personnel at the location did yeoman's work getting me equipment we could use; the regional or national personnel and software failed to make the truck I reserved two months earlier available. Hence the yeoman's work of the local personnel.Harry B.

This truck was not in the condition that I have come to expect from Uhaul. The doors did not close properly, even if they were slammed they still rattled on the highway. There was a missing knob for the climate control, which made it so the heat and AC wouldn't work. The throttle stuck while I was in traffic which almost caused an accident, I had to quickly shift into park to avoid hitting the car in front of me, the throttle was overriding the brakes. This happened twice. This truck is unsafe. The truck was also dirty and smelt bad. On top of all of this, my original online order was cancelled (not sure if it was a system error or the rep at the location), but when the rep reprocessed the order he did not add roadside assistance coverage and now I am being told I am responsible for $175 in RA charges. I have proof that my original order had RA. I even told the rep I wanted all coverages including RA. Not happy with Uhaul, or this location. I would like someone to reach out to me via my email on file.TRAVIS A.

The staff seemed bothered that we were there to pickup our 10x10 truck nor did they take the time to actually put the utility truck (2-wheel hand truck) in the back of the truck as ordered on the agreement. When I discovered it wasn't there, I called, and they said they would remove it from the invoice. However, when I got to Tennessee to turn in the truck, they HADN'T taken it off the invoice. So, the Uhaul service in South Portland Is not at the top of my list for renting from again!Samuel B.

This location and the staff are great, no complaints there. My only issue was with the UHaul app. I returned my truck after hours and the app would not accept my location no matter what I did. The app refused to let me circumvent the location feature and so I was not able to check the truck back in online and had to call them in the early a.m. Fix the app to let people skip the location step if needed!!!Adinah B.

This has nothing to do with the pick up or drop off site. However, for the second time in a row U haul â€œupgradedâ€œ us to a 6 x 12 trailer when we only needed a 5 x 8 trailer. This was problematic because we were using this to drop off children for college, and the bigger trailers are much more difficult to handle and park and utilize in crowded venues. Just because we had a vehicle that could handle the additional size and told load does not mean that it was an upgrade for us. I think a more concerted effort should be made to give the customer the specific piece of equipment that they request, and not a larger substitute.Douglas P.
Better customer service skills in the office of this location. At the end of turning the truck in, the office person was rude and demanding documentation that had already been provided. Rude! And then he realized he had made a mistake and we were good to go. Tough job, tough customers, no place for rude.William H.
I have opened a claim. I was charge for 37 extra miles. The receipt is stating the truck started with 37 fewer miles than it did. I have been overcharged by 30$ +Ryan E.

And that it was not my fault. So my suggestion to anybody is if you're renting a truck definitely search around and make sure you get inside the truck and check it for any type of water damage and make sure you thoroughly ask questions about what the insurance covers and make sure verify that that vehicle is clean whether you are a smoker or not. This is by no means a reflection of 300 Main St. in South Portland this is a reflection of Columbia South Carolina and U-Haul as a whole. How you are just a contract number you are not an individual person and they do not care about your belongings. The representative from customer service told me to go ahead and set the things that were wet off to the side let them dry out and then use them. I'm sorry I can't use a TV that is water damaged because it won't turn on and also I can't use my suitcases because they smell like rotten eggs from the water that was in there.
