Actually, Murphy's was not the original location. I had to go to Murphy's because the original Pick-up location (74 W Pond Road, Perth Amboy, NJ 08861) did not have my order staged for pick up. I even went the day before (to 74 W Pond) to ensure things would run smoothly the next morning since my scheduled pick up was very early; before their opening time. The guy who attended me at 74 W Pond was massively unprofessional with an attitude problem who did not want to help me to go over what I had to do the next day, told me that doing it online was too complicated and that I was better off coming in during their working hours. I did not have the option of going in later; I had hired movers coming in at 7:30am. When I show up at the scheduled time of 6:30 no one was in and my truck was not there for me to pick up. I had to drive to Rahway to pick up a smaller vehicle then the one I had booked. It's not Murphy's fault. It is Uhaul and 70 W Pond Road (19 Petroleum) fault. I had to pay more hours for the movers. I would have rated this experience above average if the truck had any gas in the tank. When I turned on the vehicle it was already on â€œE,â€ luckily we were next to a gas station. Not exactly a pleasurable experienceâ€¦Jeff D.
When a customer reserves the "add ons" such as a furniture dolly they expect it to be there at pickup. Obviously with moving there's a plan in place and that plan includes certain pieces that are essential to that plan. Such as, "how am I going to get this heavy furniture from point A to B? I'll reserve a dolly weeks in advance and it'll be in the Uhaul at pickup. Done." When moving day happened to fall on the day of a storm those pieces become that much more vital. Could I have rescheduled? No. That day was my only option. The fact that the dolly wasn't there was due to negligence not a storm. I reserved it with plenty of time in advance. When I called Uhaul to see if I could get the dolly from another location I was told a nearby location had a dolly for me. I then took time to retrieve that dolly but once I showed up to that location I was told that there was no such dolly, wasting even more of my already limited time that day.Victor C.
The ground was icy and I fell before I opened the driver side door. The driver and passenger side windows were dirty and hard to see the side mirrors. When I mentioned to the secretary that I fell she didn't seem concerned or mentioned it to anyone. My right knee is scraped and bleeding. Bad experience.Carlos D.

The location and service were excellent. The problem was with the U-Haul application and the U-Haul website. The application and the website were down and would not process my return. I had to call U-Haul support and wait on the phone for 1 hour and 47 minutes to get help with the return.Bharadwaj P.

Murphy's towing is a great operation. The U-Haul website was very confusing, but Mr. Murphy from the location was very nice and guided me through the process without a problem. When I picked up the truck, the gas tank was not full. It was filled to approximately the tick mark before Full. I was told to return the truck with the fuel tank just about where I pick it up. I did just that, and was charged for gasoline anyway. Will not recommend uHaul for future instances.Fabio O.

Super friendly, and helped me save money on my trip by waking me through my options. I've rented uhauls before and this van was the best I've had (clean, power windows, backup camera, A/C works well, full outlet for charging cord). They hooked it up. Definitely using them again.Marianna V.
Terrible service. Showed up to our â€œguarenteedâ€ pickup place in linden and told that they didn't have any and changed our pickup to Rahway. WE WERE NEVER CONTACTED OF THIS CHANGE. Then our drop off place changed. Further away! And we were over a couple of miles and charged us an additional $5 after having to drive further BOTH ways. I'm terribly upset about it. My husband declined charging the extra $5 and said he was contesting it AND THEY CHARGED IT ANYHOW WITHOUT HIS PERMISSION.James M.

U-haul confirmed my order for 10 ft truck but owner of the location who, was closed during Friday business hours, told me no 10 ft truck when i went to pick the truck at the location. He asked me to change my reservation to 15 ft truck so not only I had to pay more truck but also for the milage. The truck was dirty. When I called U-haul, the case manager was rude, kept telling me lies that i originally reserved 10 ft truck and very arrogant. He did not listen to my concerns and I ended renting 15 ft truck after spending 2 hours at this location and had to cancel and hire new movers - cost extra. It cost me $250 more due to Uhaul's lack of ability to give me the truck on time and their failure. Not going to use U-haul again and terrible customer service. U-hual can go audit and review my case. Someone needs to be held responsible for this mess. I had to do this with 20 month at home and the wife who wasn't feeling well. Hell No U-haul.Nabin B.

There were some issues with the phone app asking for additional information like a passport copy and other things, if these are needed, they should be a list provided before arriving onsite so we could bring the information. The office workers were extremely helpful to ensure we were able to pick up the truck on time but the app was very confusing and unhelpful so credit to the onsite staff.Lawrence B.

The tires were bald and had low air pressure. The light for the tires was on, but I was told this was nothing to worry about. They were wrong, as the truck got stuck on my front lawn. I was then charged a $25 cleaning fee and when I called to get it refunded, they denied it! Absolutely terrible.Matt W.

This place was a shabby corner on route 1. The building was marked Murphy's towing and I guess they expanded into Uhaul truck rentals before considering they may need a bigger lot. The woman who worked in that shabby, office that wreeked of cigarettes was the best part about the experience. She was polite, down to earth, and answered all my questions. Everything else was horrible. No on-site parking for your vehicle, no gas cap for the tank, dirty truck, and when 6pm hit, the guy that sat at that desk was clueless and creepy.erica H.

The condition of the truck was excellent - much better than I expected. However, a few issues with the pick-up. First, I did the entire contract online only to have to answer several of the same questions and present my license again, which seemed like a waste of time. Second, the office where you pick up the keys reeked of cigarette smoke and in fact one of the employees was smoking in there which is clearly illegal. Third, though they emphasized the charge for mileage, no one said a word about gas. As we were planning to go very few miles it did not even occur to me to fill up but then we were charged $10 for like 1/8th tank. they should emphasize the gas policy as they did with mileage to avoid surprises.Susan I.
