Uhaul screwed up my efforts to rent a simple 4x8 enclosed trailer 2x in my own town, forcing me into a 1hr round trip to rent the unit far away. It cost me 2 hours of travel time to rent/return, not to mention the expensive gas needed to get my heavy SUV there and back. A nightmare effort caused by Uhaul. Waited 3 hours for a confirmed reservation- truck never returned so had to drive 30 minutes to get another truck after having waited 3 hours on a stressful moving day. After receiving the truck, there was less than a quarter tank of gas. Truck was filled with gas and upon returning truck we were told that we would not be reimbursed for the $75 worth of fuel that we had put in the tank. It is rediculous that U-Haul sends customers on the road with an empty tank then refuse to reimburse for gas upon return. The staff I dealt with were disorganized and unprofessional. I would like to be contacted by a customer service rep to make this experience right. I will never be using U-Haul again unless something changes.EVAN L.
I was charged more than quoted, I had extra charges that I'm still waiting for reimbursement, and I was charged for â€œsafe movingâ€ and I did not request that. 3rd time this has happened. I will use Budget from now on and tell anyone that listens to me to avoid Uhaul.Russell A.

I do not know who manage the reservation (U-Haul natioanl or the local SLO office) but I booked a 20 feet truck on 03/10 which was accepted and I received a call on 03/25 (2 days before my rental) to let me know me that my rental was not available. I was initially proposed a 10 feet tuck rental in a location located at 32 minutes of my initial rental location; the location was solved after expressing my unsatisfactory but not the type of truck. I had to ask for additional mileages to cover the back and forth. That's a shame; I was moving the weekend of 03/27. That implies additional stress, cost, and time. If I can, I will never rent with U-Haul again and you can be sure that I am going to give a good review to anyone asks me about your company. Notes: + the person who received at the SLO office was nice and helpful. + Rent a truck with a half tank just to earn a few bucks when people return the rental is a miserable; third class companies do that.Yann L.

the person working was not wearing a mask, it was rude and unprofessional. the truck was dirty and not sanitized. i was very disappointed but had to take it as is because we had people waiting on us to move our stuff.alexis H.
Excellent employees at local office. Problem is with corporate management. Issue: I booked uhaul weeks in advance for pickup 9am Saturday 27 March. Notified late Friday 26 March by office in LA that truck would not be available until 10:30am. I modified my plan and prepositioned all items (couches, chairs and tables to garage to make up the 1 1/2 hour delay. As I am driving to the uhaul office I get call that my reserved truck is â€œnot available at all today.â€ I keep driving and upon arrival, learn there is â€œ1â€ â€œsmallerâ€ available truck left on lot. Not having any alternative, I adjust number of hauling trips and sign for available truck. I was frustrated to say the least not with local employees but with corporate UHaul Mgmt. No doubt a multi Billion dollar company that has no spare truck(s) to adjust to real world issues/needs. I learned that (can't validate this) the whole state of Californian has barely enough trucks on hand to meet needs much less contingencies. To paraphrase Bruce Willis in Armageddon, â€œcome on, you're UHAUL for Gods sakes! This is what you do and it's your business model. This is the best ya got??â€ Final point to drive it home. If you made a reservation at a Hilton or Embassy Suites and they called u the night before asking you if u can do a late check-in? You (like me) would say ok things happen. If you go to the hotel counter next day and they say sorry no rooms are left....I don't think u or I would be sympathetic. Celebrated my 39th wedding anniversary yesterday and uhaul put my 40th in doubt. (Hyperbole) but you get my point. Be a success UHaul and have your smart people with visors check on how your fleet is distributed. This will avoid my type of inconvenience and headache and for others as well AND it will enhance your reputation and more importantly your bottom line. WOW! I got a brand NEW truck!!! It had about 2400 miles on it! The rep was fun to deal with and very helpful as well. I don't know if this is policy but it only had 1/2 tank of gas in it though and I had to fill up before I could use it in my move. Still I was impressed that it was a NEW truck!William M.

They did not walk around the truck with me at all, or give any instructions on it. The outside was caked with mud, but inside was decent. They would not help with loading my car up onto the dolly, I had to get a stranger off the street. Very unprofessionalPatricia G.

They didn't have blankets, which I ordered, and they did not call to tell me this beforehand. They also closed their shop 30 minutes before they were supposed to close, so I had to return the U-Haul when no one was there.Grace P.

My husband went and picked up the trailer in pouring rain in a suit and tie and the person who gave him the trailer did not help at all hooking it up. If it was me picking it up I would have known what to do. I have rented from uhual probably 20 times. Worst experience.Kim G.

I don't normally write reviews, but I wanted to leave a good one for this. From start to finish, this was hands down the EASIEST move ever. The people at this UHaul made it super easy and quick. Aubrey helped me, she was really pleasant to deal with. Very nice and informative, I was kinda stressed about moving and she lightened the mood and made the whole experience pleasant. Will be recommending this place to others and will be coming back in the future, highly recommended their service. The San Luis Obispo rep was very kind and helpful. However the Santa Barbara U-Haul folks confirmed my suspicion that the hitch had been installed too low at the San Luis Obispo location (it kept hitting the ground whenever I drove it down even the slightest slope, and that was with the trailer empty). Because I had a few days before I needed to fill the trailer and begin my drive north, I checked in with the Santa Barbara location (5 mins from my home) and they reinstalled the hitch for me at the proper height (literally by turning it upside down). This made for a much better and safer ride. Having the Uhaul trailer was a life-saver and it was very easy to use. Thanks everyone!Sharyn C.
I opted to use the online check-in method. It was hard to use because the location was in the valley and cell service was iffy. Also, when I had to use my daughter's phone, we had to reconfirm the pick-up. This process took more than 30 minutes. I will likely not be booking these remote locations again. Also, there was no 2 wheeler (dolly) in the truck as I requested, but becasue the business was closed for the day, I was not able to get one. Now I am being charged for something lost that I never received.Kevin K.
I had ordered blankets and a dolly, they did not have them told me to possibly call another facility in SLO area. I asked him to do a walk around with me and he said NO. I also ask him how to adjust the mirrors and again he said he didn't know and would not come out of the building to help us!!!! I had to spend another 30 extra minutes at another facility to get the moving things I needed to complete my move!!Peggy B.

The guy checking us out to get the truck wasn't even interested in getting off his chair to help at all. The truck was backed to a tree. The truck wasn't cleaned and the dolly was in the back just rolling around. And was just told we'll go outside and mark things you see. Not very friendly or helpful.James C.

it was so hot, The room the young lady was in was extremely warm, "cooled" by a large floor fan. She did not have on a mask. I was extremely uncomfortable with that at the same time sympathetic given the poor conditions she was in. The customer before me had a mask on as did I. I waited outside till he was done. A mask is necessary. I would not return to this location because of that especially since there are many to choose from. As far as the truck goes, there was no ramp. Part of the reason I rented a uhaul was because I needed a ramp. I found out after that I would have had to pay extra for that. That was unfortunate. Have my original order available at the location I ordered. Not having to drive 163 miles to go pick up a truck that is 10 foot shorter than what we ordered. Then having all the rigmarole to get us all set up because now with a smaller truck it takes more loads. But then Do you know that people have no choice and you guys treat us poorly. The dispatcher Michelle needs to be reviewed at her job because she told me she has no supervisor I'm glad she's in charge If U-Haul. I'm not sure how you were allowed to cancel our order 13 hours before pick up on a move, which by your general purpose of your business practice to know how time exactly it is. If I had any other option when I moved I would not do use U-Haul,Robert H.

The woman at the desk was friendly and awesome. She let us switch trailers when the one we were assigned had a stuck door. Everything went very smoothly. The only minor complaint I have is that the wooden rods on the inside of the trailer had very small holes to strap things to, and one of them actually snapped during the move. Fortunately, none of the furniture was affected or moved. Overall a good experience, thanks!Nathan F.
