The alternator died on the truck halfway through the day. It ended up taking hours of trying to jump the car and waiting on Uhaul roadside to finally get the fully loaded truck running again (by connecting two sets of jumper cables to the battery). I had to leave the truck running for over two hours while we unloaded it to keep the battery from dying again. After returning the truck back to the location, the moment I turned the ignition off, all of the lights immediately went out and the battery had zero juice (after almost three hours of running). Just not a well maintained vehicle.Matthew S.

Shortly after I left the U-Haul rental location, I had a tire blowout on the freeway with a load in the truck and a vehicle loaded on my trailer. Fortunately, I was able to pull off the freeway and inspect the tires on the truck and trailer. Upon further inspection of the truck tires, the tire that exploded was worn down entirely. The blow-out tire was worn beyond all tread and was almost completely bald and smooth across the entire tire. While inspecting the blow-out, I noticed that 3 additional tires were completely beyond legal wear as well, and the utter negligence of the state of all 4 worn tires (three in the rear of the truck, and one on the front) was shocking. The three other tires were worn well beyond replacement levels; two tires were worn beyond the tread on the inside half of the tires, one of which was worn so badly that it was beyond the rubber all the way down to the threads (this tire would have blown out additionally shortly after the first). The third additional tire was worn down on the outside edge all the way down to the wear lines. The fact that none of these tires had been inspected or changed (nor was the alignment inspected and adjusted within many months) means that several people were driving heavy loads for months on tires that were illegal and a severe safety hazard. This not only put the customers and myself at risk, it also put arguably thousands of other drivers at risk of a fatal accident that could have been avoided if tire inspections and replacements were a priority for U-Haul. I'm shocked that my own life was in danger due to the sheer negligence of this company. It's obvious that the location I rented from did no prior inspections, nor did the employee I rented from conduct any inspections with me upon renting the vehicle. This incident could have been dramatically worse as I was trusting U-Haul with a loaded truck and trailer that may have rolled or lost control due to the negligent state of the tires, and I'll be seeking legal counsel in addition to demanding a refund for this experience. This is absolutely unacceptable, and it scares me to think about how many other U-Haul trucks and trailers are being rented to customers who are making long distance trips with tires that are well beyond legal levels of wear.Richard S.

I had reserved a month in advance a 26' truck for a 10am pickup. The day of the pickup, the place called me 45 min before pickup time to tell me the truck wouldn't be available until 1pm. I understand that they were waiting for someone to drop the truck off, but that left me in a rut. Fortunately for them, I actually didn't need that large of a truck, and they had a 15' available for me. What they SHOULD have done was not charge me for mileage to compensate for not having the larger truck available when it was supposed to in case I would have had to make two trips. All that they did was give me the dolly and pads for free. To me it's just terrible customer service to not be able to have something for someone when they expect it, especially when it's reserved way in advance and then have barely to no compensation for it.Christopher G.

It was clean in the sense of being tidy but it would be nice if they wiped it down between customers because when I wiped the seats and steering wheel, it was gross. The wipes were filthy. Also, just with the U-haul online experience, I arrived after my pick up time and the â€œpick up my truckâ€ option wasn't available. I was on hold trying to speak to a customer service person for over 30 minutes until we finally tried the chat feature. That was very frustrating.Haref M.

Inside surfaces were filthy. I wiped down all the touch surface and the cleaning cloths were disgusting. Overall the truck was tidy except the touch surfaces. In todays environment I expected more!Michael C.

The back of the truck was okay, but the cab was filthy. There was sunflower seeds, raisins & choclate candy pieces all over the floor. Couldn't put our feet down without our shoes sticking to the mess! We brushed out what we could, but the whole thing needed a scrub brush and a hose.Bruce N.
It would be nice if there was someway other than the internet to check in on Sundays or after hours. Some people like myself who does not have the best internet connection away from home on my phone, its hard to connect to the link that the text says I need to go to. Or when i do connect I cant send the pictures you require. There should be an after hours number to call.Michael M.

When we returned the trailer, the only place to park it was on a slight incline. I asked about something to put under the tire to keep the trailer in place, and the response was a shrug of the shoulders. We found some large rocks and placed them under the wheels. Provide truck with full tank of gas so that it can easily be returned with a full tank. I overfilled the tank and ultimately overpaid. Clean bugs from windshield and mirrors. There we soooo many disgusting bugs everywhereâ€"the windshield, doors, mirrors, grill. It was gross and a poor appearing truck. Ensure the pictures included in the online approval/condition of vehicle is current and accurate. The pic of my truck was clean and damage-free. The actual truck was dirty and damaged. I had to take pics of the damage and include them in my online condition review. I felt like if I didn't identify the damage, I could have held accountable. The mirrors were so full of bugs however I had to adjust them manually and handle them. It was gross I asked Trish from the office to help me. Trish was very helpful.Michelle P.

The day before we were supposed to pick up our 15 foot truck (less than 24hours before) we were told that they only had a 10 foot truck. The lady that told us was extremely rude about us asking questions about other options available and we felt pretty frustrated. I wish they would have told us more than the night before as we could have figured out our options, given us a better deal as a consolation, or at least not have been so brash about the situation. Bad customer service leaving us feeling extremely annoyed. We are planning on moving again within town and we will not be using U-Haul even if we do have to pay quite a bit more.Ryker B.

The experience was good. My only issue was that the gas tank was not actually full when I rented. Don't know that you could do much about that but I only used 23 miles and I put in 7.5 gallons when I returned. The next guy got a bonus.Bret P.
