It's a warehouse near the Oakland waterfront. Not sure how you'd sugar coat that. If I was a single woman, this pick up might be a little scary. That being said, the very nice gentleman who processed my van pick up could not have been more friendly and I was happy to give this office the business.Allison S.

I didn't have any issues with the location or the pick up experience in terms of the ED Coat Inc Rental location and the employees there. My issue is more around the process of getting the 15' truck as a whole. I had made a reservation a month or so prior and the day before my move/pick up day was told there was no truck available for me. That was very upsetting and frustrating and really created a great deal more stress for me during the already stressful situation of moving. Only when I refused to accept that there was not a truck available was one "found" for me all the way in Oakland. That whole experience was frustrating and added several hours to my moving day unexpectedly. The process of "reserving" and notification of equipment needs an overhaul. Telling customers the day before they expect to get equipment to pack and move that no equipment is available is a poor business practice. I have used UHAUL 10 plus times on various moves and this was the worst experience by far. Will certainly make me question using UHAUL in the future.Marissa W.
I would not recommend this location to others. As previous reviewers have mentioned, they are unprofessional and I left feeling sketched out. I arrived 5 mins early to my pickup time, and the door to the office was locked. The only thing posted on the door was a sign with a phone number that you can call if returning your vehicle. It was very unclear what you were supposed to do. I ended up calling the number anyway, and the woman on the phone was very short with me and said someone will be there at my pickup time. I waited on the street until two gentleman came out of a house right across the street and opened the door to the office. They didn't acknowledge me or say anything to me, so it was very confusing whether they worked there and if I should have approached them. Eventually, one of the gentleman, who I assume is Antonio from other reviews, pulled me into their office and put me on speakerphone with the woman on the phone from earlier. She was very short with me and didn't explain much of the terms and conditions to me, other than the insurance which I declined. There was also a lot of confusion around how I would drop off the van, seeing as there isn't usually anyone in the office. Antonio pointed to the sticker on the door and said that I'd need to download the app and create a U Haul account in order to return the van, which I had never had to do before. I questioned him a few more times after and I honestly still don't know what he was trying to tell me. After minutes of back and forth, I told him I'd call the number when I return, and he agreed. He also made a big deal about inspecting the vehicle and taking pictures because I had declined the insurance, which made me feel even more sketched out as I was afraid they'd do something to the van and blame it on me. When I returned the vehicle, no one was there (shocker). I looked across at the house the two gentlemen came from and saw movement in the window / someone watching me from the window, but no one came out to help me. Fantastic. I called the number on the door, no answer. I called again, and the woman picked up but said she meant to decline my call. I was shocked at how rude and unprofessional she was. Before I gave her a chance to hang up, I told her I was just there to return the van and she told me to drop off the keys in the mail slot and quickly hung up. I didn't receive a receipt until the very next day, all the while I'm paranoid about what charges they could potentially put on me. I'm not sure that I could have had a worse experience, and would highly recommend that you rent from a different location.Caroline M.

The real people service was AWESOME but the online experience was less than acceptable. Even though I reserved online the site didn't have any record of it. When I showed up it was closed, but once I contacted them they were very responsive. Also, the site should probably update their contact information since on Google/Yelp it has an out of service number listed. Again the PEOPLE were both great though.Lubia S.

Location was friendly and helpful. What made my experience difficult was UHAUL. No one called me to confirm my appointment (even though I received multiple emails telling me someone would), and they changed my pick up location. Had to downgrade to smaller van. App did not work when doing self check out. I Would recommend the location, but not the UHAUL brand.Jesse P.
It is hard to find and the person wasn't there when it was time to pick up the truck so I had to wait for them to arrive. Since most U-haul offices have a parking lot, you should indicate that this one doesn't do you can make an informed choice about leaving your car.Karen C.

This place struck me as sketchy. The odometer was one mile off when I rented the truck but they refused to change it even after they confirmed the difference; i was charged an extra 99 cents but that's no big deal, it just made me nervous about the whole return situation as described next: No one was there to receive the van (at mid-day!) and I was forced to park in a yellow zone (there's no lot; only street parking). There was a paper sign on the door saying what number to call, if locked, so I called that number and the woman who'd rented me the vehicle in the morning (she was training a man while renting me the vehicle that morning) answered the phone. I requested that someone meet me to receive the van. The woman on the phone said (about the yellow zone) "oh, well he lives right across the street so it's fine, and he must be on his lunch hour. So I said that in that case I'd wait for him to return from lunch, and she said, "oh, wait, that's it, it's Saturday! Office hours are only until 1" (it was 1:45 and the website said they were open, so that seemed unlikely). So I said, "what if something happens to the van after I leave?" and she said, "it will be fine, you got the insurance." (she'd told me when i got the keys less than 4 hours before that there's a $150 deductible even *with* the insurance, so that was not reassuring). That whole exchange made me really nervous; she sounded as if she were making things up as she went along. I read some reviews of this rental place in the morning; one reviewer said they were held responsible for damage done after they'd returned the vehicle. But there was nothing I could do; no one was coming to meet me and receive the vehicle. So I did the self-checkin online, as she suggested (uploading pictures of the clean interior of the car, and of the odometer, and of the place I'd parked it), and I left the keys in the mail slot as she instructed me, and i hope no suspicious charges arise. I've been reading other reviews on this place and it is doing nothing to reassure me! I will tell others to avoid this place, for peace of mind.laura W.

We were rerouted to this location and had to talk to the owner via a phone that was on loud speaker. The worker was there just to hand over the keys. It was a very bizarre interaction via the phone. The reroute cost us time and money since we incurred more miles to get to Sf and the bridge charged a toll. Originally we booked a SF location.Sean B.

I scheduled a pick-up in Alameda. When I arrived, they said they had nothing available and that my reservation had been switched to Oakland. I never received a call or email notifying me that my preferred pick-up location was unavailable. I then took another cab to the Oakland location. The office manager was not there to take care of paperwork. At first it appeared they did not have a truck available, then they found the truck but not the key, then eventually they found the key, but the office manager still had not shown up, so we completed the process over the phone. Overall, the online/app booking process was ineffectual and completely frustrating.WAYNE Z.

Fire the guy that works the desk because he sucks at customer service. I reserved a truck for 9 am and didn't get to leave until 945 am. This is unacceptable. It was the first of the month and there is no excuse for not staffing the office out to deal with the volume of customers. Other customers complained to me that he was rude to them and slow. When I expressed that I was dissatisfied with my experience, the clerk said behind my back that I had an attitude. I replied that I did have an attitude because I was not receiving the service I paid for in a courteous and timely manner. I had a schedule and lots of stuff to get done that day, just like anyone in the middle of a move. The clerk was impatient with me and the other customers and was rude on top of that. He threatened to "not let me have a truck" at one point during the interaction because he didn't want to hear what I had to say. If I behaved this way at my job I would be fired. The reservation also indicated that I would be able to retrieve the vehicle using an app, and that was not possible at this location. My time was wasted and I felt disrespected by someone who was failing to perform on every level. I didn't receive an apology or any consideration for my trouble.Robert L.
The gentleman Antonio needs to learn how to interact with people better. Causing major issues with customers who were patiently waiting for trucks and when they tried to ask questions, he completely dismissed them and gave them some very rude comments. I don't think it's fair to over book trucks and then blame the customer for the issue. I would hope that you can do better in the future. The lady I talked to on the phone and the man at the location told us to put the keys in the drop box without going through the return process with us. Then the next day I had a fee on the final receipt for gas. They stated it was at a quarter tank when it was really at a half tank. Rude, incredibly unprofessional staff. The truck they gave me was not fully fueled, but the contract they handed me stated that it was. When I disputed it, they made a note of it on mine and their copy of the contract but did not make the correction in the system. When I got to my drop off location, I fueled it only to the amount that it had when I picked it up, but was charged for fueling because E D Coat Rentals did not update it in the system. Also why does E D Coat Rental even provide a damn phone number if they never pick it up - I must have tried calling them over 15 times in the span of four days. Worst experience, will not be renting with UHaul again.Akriti B.

ABSOLUTELY AWFUL. The site manager, Lisa, was "working from home". This meant that there was no computer on-site. One client showed up early and their truck was not there. They had to troubleshoot this with Lisa over the phone. He was put on hold, and every other client had to wait 45-60 minutes because Lisa was not on-site and couldn't serve more than one person at a time. She needs to be there otherwise every single client waits while she is on hold with dispatch. Terrible. If she was there, she could be on hold solving the missing truck issue and she could've processed all the other clients in short order.Jordan B.

Our rental experience was very bad. We were never contacted and told they moved our pick-up location. We also had booked a one-way, but in order to get the truck we had to do a round trip which was very inconvenient. The lady at the location we eventually picked up the truck from was very helpful, but the overall experience was very bad.Michael R.
The guy working at E D Coat couldn't answer my questions about the truck such as how much does it take to fill up the gas tank and how far a tank might take me. The printer didn't work so he couldn't print out my contract so he just had me sign a piece of paper that said that I took the truck. And I had requested a dolly which he didn't have. On the plus side the truck was ready and I didn't have any problems with it.Greg W.

Online it says this location is open until 6pm, and I made the reservation online, days before, for 5pm. When we showed up no one was there for an extended period of time, and all calls to the numbers we had were unanswered. And finally, we got a call back about 15 minutes after my scheduled appointment time and then had to wait for someone to show up who then proceeded to regale us with "we're closed", which is counter to the uhaul website, google, and my actual reservation.Nicole H.

The clerk was unprepared. I signed up wanting to do the pickup through the app on my phone since I'm hearing impaired, instead the clerk had me talking to the representative on the phone to check in for a pickup. And the truck that we got, the right side mirror didn't work - we would rotate it into place and it would swing right back. There were also a lot of cosmetic damage to the truck that wasn't marked with an â€˜x' but the clerk didn't really give us a chance to inform him of anything. I also got back to drop off the truck between 5-6pm and nobody was there to receive it so I was charged for the full 8 hours I had it reserved for. So basically, please be more prepared and be more receptive to customer needs and give us a chance to say what we want to do rather than just ushering us out of the door and handing us the keys and that's it.Maxwell P.
The original contract had a misprint on mileage. Lisa said she would fix it. This morning when I got my invoice I was shocked to find out that the mileage was WAY over what I drove. This cost me an additional 30 plus dollars. I tried to call to fix this. No answer. Had to take a ride share to the store. One person was there who said they couldn't help me so they gave me Lisa's card. Tried to call her, no answer. I am currently awaiting a call from the U haul area manager to rectify this situation. Will not take cash and she overcharged my card. I rented a utility trailer on a Saturday returned it first thing Sunday morning. They charged my card for 2 days on the first day and when I returned it the next day they charged me again. Which I had no idea of. I didn't know about it till I went to pay for groceries. After shopping for 45 min and waiting to check out for another 10 min. After all my food was rung up and bagged my card was declined that was Sunday night. My original reservation did not have a vehicle assigned (though the advertisement says 24/7 rentals) and I went to the Oakland location hoping to get some help. The Oakland location had a clerk who was working through a manager on a phone and she originally thought I was someone named Monica, though I told her my information when we started the call. Overall this experience was unorganized and unprofessional. I will never use your services again and I will tell everyone I know about this egregious morning. my truck was transferred and no one told me. I had scheduled an 8:30 am pickup at the gilman street location which i planned movers around, but the truck was moved to a location that didn't open until 10. in addition, the location didn't have any of the moving pads I had rented. the truck only had half a tank of gas...though it was clear I was moving 350 miles away. the whole experience was terrible.Rebecca T.

The location was closed although online it says open on Sunday's. No one answered the phone number left on the door for drop-offs. When I called customer service, they weren't sure why the location was closed. Your own company doesn't know if locations are opened or closed. There were no signs for where to leave the keys (no dropbox, etc.) Also, I was unreasonably charged a $25 cleaning fee for a small piece of crumpled painter's tape and two pieces of rope. Very very disappointed in this service. Definitely not using U-Haul again.Timothy G.

I filled out an Express Checkout online for another Uhaul location. after some minutes, that truck wasnt available and I was sent to E D Coat Rental. The lady in charge talked to me via the phone (at that location) and it seems I had to answer many questions, as if I was starting from scratch. I already reserved the truck online with credit card, Drivers license etc, Also I discovered after the fact, that the lady signed me up for premium insurance for $42! I did not, nor do not check this option as my Progressive Auto insurance covers this. I had written a note to Unhaul regarding this but havent received a response. Also, the truck had only 1/4 gas in it, and so I had to buy gas right off the bat. Usually buy gas on the return! I wont rent a truck from this location again. And Im probably going to use another moving rental service.GARY S.
