I attempted to rent equipment through several other U Haul rental places and always ended up getting answering machines and no call back. At DeVoe's I spoke several times to a woman who was extremely pleasant and helpful. They even traveled to a different location to insure that the vehicle I needed was at their location. I would highly recommend doing business with them.

The people are very nice there, but I am giving one star because of unpleasant experience with u-haul policy. I bought 'SafeMove' coverage and assumed that the truck damage is all covered. But I was charged over $300 for the damage on the roof. And I was told that the damage at the location is not covered. So be mindful in inspecting a truck before you rent.

When we got the truck we were told we would get probably 10 miles to the gallon or a little better. This was a brand new truck with only 12,000 miles. When we started out every time I stepped on the gas to pass someone overdrive would kick in, would not stop even after I let off the gas the engine kept over reving. I would have to pull off to the side of the road put it in park so the overdrive would kick off. Then I could go, but I had to be careful how much gas I gave it. Even going downhill if I touched the gas overdrive would kick in. I wound up getting about 6 miles to the gallon, that’s a big difference as I drove from New York to New Mexico. This trip cost me a lot more in gas that I had planned. Very disappointed, especially since this was pretty much a brand new truck.

The woman who handled this transaction hung up on me when I first called to reserve a truck - said “ I’m on the other line” and hung up the phone. When returning to drop off the truck there was no one at the counter for 15 or so minutes then the same woman appeared at the service counter and proceeded to discipline the other employees in front of my wife. Overall she was very rude to us and we will get u-haul service elsewhere in the future. I would avoid DeVoes’s for U-Haul service, rude, rude, rude !!!

Only problem I had was the truck needed to be relived or something it was very hard for me to keep it on the rod it shook bad and kept wanting to go from side to side and it was very hard to keep on the right side of the road I would suggest you get this truck in the garage ASAP otherwise the service itself was excellent staff was friendly and helpful

It took me approximately a half hour to return my truck, and nothing was explained to me here either. The location was not clearly marked for where to return the truck, or where to speak to someone regarding the return. It was a lot of guesswork.

I rented a trick and car trailer to tow a 90,000 car. The equipment was parked for me and I was left on my own to load it. I had no idea if it was in the right position and the doors could not open due to the wheel wells. I had too climb out the window to find that i needed to drive it costs more. Climbing in and it again. I stood in the rain trying to figure out the wheel ratchets and where else to secure the car. When I went on to ask about the doors not being able to open, she told me pull on knobs and it folds down, but they still couldn't open. Only major problem is that lack of any assistance. I would have brought help with except I was told when I reserved it, "we will get you loaded up"

The truck was a piece of crap. Driving it was a challenge. The driving wheel had more play than a 1960's car. The box was OK. The tie down slats were barely adequate. Don't use the air conditioning if possible, as it guzzles lots of gas. And it doesn't get very good gas mileage. I would have gotten a smaller truck, but needed a ramp. The truck was an old, high mileage piece of crap that should be sold for scape. I had expected better for the money I paid. UHaul, as a company, gets a poor from me. I had reserved a truck for 9am, but didn't find out until late the evening before, that the location didn't open until 1pm. And the reservation system didn't pick this up? Yes, I could have used the automated phone app to get the truck, but also needed an appliance dolly, which I likely would not have gotten using that method. Overall, a poor experience. But UHaul gets most of the blame. The pickup location was OK.

One of the tires failed 125 miles into a 600 mile trip. This cost us 2 hours on a tight schedule. The side wall of the tire appeared to fail. Do not know if there were indications of impending failure, but it was a very frustrating event

I had a very POOR experience at your Plank Road location with the “virtual” pick up NONE OF YOUR TECHNOLOGY worked correctly and I was on the Help line on and off for more than an hour. Needless to say I was shocked at the incompetence and disappointed when your phone team could not rectify the problem with the system. Additionally, I was promised 2-dozen free furniture pads at the Devoes Rt. 9 location by the manager I spoke with and that discount never materialized. Poor customer service all the way around and it cost me and 3 guys 2- hours. Only one person to help 6 customers all with reservations on a very busy weekend. Picking up a Reserved truck took 45minutes because the lack of help at this location. In location's defense, many people in line were switched to this location from various others in area.

Reserved trailer was not there when we arrived. We drove from Buffalo NY to Albany NY to pick it up and return to Buffalo with furniture. The woman at the uhaul dealer couldn't find our reservation. When she did find it she then told us that she went to pick up our trailer at another facility they told her it had been stolen. I have to question this excuse because it sounds fake to begin with and how did she know to pick it up for us in the first place when she couldn't find our reservation when we got there?! Anyway we went from renting a 5x8 which was a size compatible with our car to being given a 6x12 which she told us isn't rated for our hitch and car but that we should be ok. So we had to use a trailer that was too big and way too much more space then we needed. What else could we do?! We were stuck. We got home alright but of course this isn't the point. We are not happy with what happened and don't like the fact that we were put in that position! It could have been dangerous for one thing and we felt rather helpless for another. We feel we should be compensated in some way.

Joy was great to work with and managed our reservation with care. She went above and beyond when we needed to switch from a 15' to a 20' at the last minute. I would highly recommend using this location for all your U-Haul needs.
