I forgot the check the mileage when I got into the van. My entire rounds trip which was to Fallbrook was no more than 45 miles at the most and I was charged double that mileage. My parents have owned property there for over 40 years and I know exactly what the mileage is r/t. So instead of a $64. Charge for having the van from 8:15 -1:50 PM Inwas charged for two days and they added in extra mileage. I've lived in Carlsbad for over 30 years. And no I wouldn't recommend them or rent from them again.

The place seemed very sketchy. The manager kept giving me conflicting information. My contract said the truck had 1/4 tank, but it was completely empty. The manager said they have trouble with people siphoning their gas, but then later he said that the truck had already been rented once that same day. I ended up getting charged close to a $100 for a 30 mile round trip. I had the truck for less than three hours. I'm pretty sure U-Haul will fix extra charges, but I can't get back my experience.

Location was great and the staff was very helpful. I would for sure recommend this location. UHAUL and their tricks to charge you for their insurance even when declining it on the website are boarder line dishonest and bad business practices.

I arrived at the pick up location at exactly the correct time and went inside to get my paperwork done and get on the road. The guy there tells me he doesn't have a reservation for me and that I need to go to the U-Haul location a mile up the road because “they do this all the time.” I'm frustrated at this point because I've already gone WAY out of my way to this location since my reservation couldn't be filled at the location I had chosen originally. Nor could it be filled at any location closer to my destination and the person who had called to change my reservation told me that this was the ONLY location in the entire county which had the tow dolly I requested. I ask him to check again and he reads back all the names on his computer screen with reservations for that day, ending with mine. I told him, “That's me, you're just pronouncing my name wrong.” He responds with “Ugh. Okay.” I have obviously RUINED his day by having to have my reservation filled at his store, but whatever. Dude pulls up my reservation and says, “Do you know how to attach it? ‘Cause I don't have the hardware here.” I am fortunate that I do know how to attach a trailer, but I could only imagine if someone who didn't had rented from this place. I go out to attach the trailer, and of course it's raining. But I had made this reservation long in advance and this was the only day I had to move my friend's car, so I suck it up and attach the trailer. When I went back inside he is struggling with the computer. It's stuck on the “select drop off location” screen and he can't figure out how to proceed. I'm computer savvy so I ask him if I can take a look. It was a simple fix, zooming out so the “next” button became visible, then zooming back in. The next screen shows all the insurances and stuff, which I tell him I want to waive. His response? “I don't know how to do that. You'll have to call U-Haul to get them to refund it.” I really wanted to ask him what he did know how to do, but that would be bitchy and I'm bigger than that. I ask him if he has a 7pin converter for the lights since I forgot mine. “We don't carry that stuff,” he says. 40 minutes after my original pick-up time, I sign my paperwork and drive off. I went up the street one mile to the actual U-Haul place and asked the people there to double check I had attached the trailer correctly, since I was about to drive 350 miles and the last thing I need is my friend's car flying off, and buy the converter for the lights. It took five minutes and they were infinitely more friendly and respectful. I don't usually go to the little authorized retailers and I never will again. The people at those locations are not trained to handle U-Haul's equipment.

The trailer malfunctioned before I could even use it. So like a good samaritan I called and requested guidance (I was on a military Installation) I was informed I was not allowed to move the trailer and then I was informed noone could pick up the trailer and that also I was not allowed to leave the trailer. I only had an hour or so available to me and i explained that they also had an hour. But to prevent more fees for an item I still have yet to use I waited. For 2 hours until I was contacted and told that the visitor center was closed and they needed me to sponsor them. Which I could not since I just got out of the military and needed a trailer to move my vehicle. I was no longer allowed on base without my own sponsor which i only had for an hour at about 1:00 PM now it's almost 4 at that point and noone is listening to me and both our times are wasted. I requested that they pick up the trailer so that I may leave I have alot of moving to do. I was informed noone can pick up the trailer. They gave me a call back number requesting that I call them when I can get my own sponsor but that i have to stay with this trailer stuck on a dirt road 1 hour from my home. The next day I call the number and noone answers the number and it turns out everything is closed I only have sponsors available around 8 PM at that point and with the number I have not working I decided to drive the trailer carefully with my hazards on to where I picked it up. And requested they take back their trailer. I was told they cant and to call roadside assistance to see if they can pick up the trailer (even though the day prior I was told roadside does not do pick ups) I asked why they could not pick up their own trailer and all I was told is it was contracted to me so it's my responsibility. I don't remember my contract stating I was taking responsibility for a malfunctioned trailer. Nowhere in my contract does it say I am responsible to travel with a malfunctioning trailer anywhere at the convenience of uhaul to fit their needs when I am the one paying for a service that i did not get. And in my frustration with this nonsense, I left the trailer at the location I received the trailer. I do not work for uhaul, I am not getting paid any transportation funds or gas money, noone spoke of a refund for a malfunctioned trailer that i didn't get to use and now I'm being asked for even more money for "abandoning" a trailer on a uhaul lot instead of driving it an hour (possibly causing even more damages) to my house and driving back. This is the worst service I have ever had to experience. And I cant believe anyone would be treated this way and be demanded of in such a fashion while paying for a service/good.

Honestly, I usually give good criticism: but both my experiences in using usual at this location has been such a dream. I was completely unprepared for this emergency move that I had to do in between my three jobs and this center was so incredibly helpful in assisting me: they informed me of what I needed and what was considered unnecessary... it was SO HELPFUL to talk to the rep there :D thank you again!!

Pick up a truck at 8am on Nov 2nd and dropped it off at 7:30pm. This morning Nov 3th I received the receipt when they charged for 2 days. I left the truck with 2 suspicious guys that were working at the gas station. They didn't check out the truck until this morning and they made pay for their mistake!! That's a shame! Called Mr Bob and he told to call Uhaul. Now I need to wait at least 5 business day for a refund. Lesson learn, always wait for your check out, don't ever let this guys screw you up again. I have a business and I rent trucks everyday, I prefer dealers but be careful with these kind of business that are always trying to take advantage of you.

One of the worst experience I've had to deal with. The guy showed up thirty minutes late and we didn't get the truck until an hour later.

I didn't like that the link to check-in the truck/van was only given via text. I'd have preferred if I could have also used the same browser window to return the truck/van. Keeping everything in one place- the browser would have been a better experience. As it was, I assumed the text was just a confirmation. I turned in the van and didn't get a receipt, bc the attendant was busy. He assured me it would be fine. An hour later he called me asking for my zip code, saying he couldn't turn in the truck. That sounded suspicious. I had to call customer service (who was awesome, but still an extra step) and have her adjust the check in time, which was the real cause of the problem - not my zip code. Once that was done, it was fine. So keeping everything in one place (the browser) instead of browser, text, browser would help. Also, having error codes that regular attendants can understand and handle independently would help. Otherwise, very impressive UX and very easy to use. I would definitely recommend it.

We live 1/2 mile from the location we chose on our reservation request. The day before our rental date we were switched to a location 15 miles from our home. The location near our home is clean, organized and in a safe and comfortable area. The switched location was in congested, sketchy area. The man who checked us out at the switched location was very nice and helpful.
