My overall experience was not good. Reserved two climate controlled units and a large moving truck. We showed up to get the truck only to find the larger size truck we reserved was not available. NOR were the unit sizes we reserved. Instead of making one trip with the big truck, it took two trips in the smaller truck. Squished household items and boxes into the smaller units. About two months later, I stopped by the unit to retrieve an item, only to find out the units my items were in were were NOT in the climate controlled section of the building. Pest Control box was INSIDE one of the units. "You need to let us know if a critter gets in the box, as we don't have access to your unit and the critter can't get out. It will die and smell." said the young sales associate at the counter that I spoke to. I inquired about moving to a section of the building that had climate control, only to be told there was a 25+ person waiting list. EXASPERATED. I found a new storage company, hired movers (again) and moved my items out of Uhaul. Needles to say I am disappointed with my experience at this facility. Q#4 Where the Staff Helpful/Friendly - courteous, yes. But they did not seem concerned with my plight about not having the reserved truck, or the reserved units not being available, size of the wait list to access the climate controlled section of the facility. Q#5 Was the facility clean and well maintained? For the most part yes The facility presents as being neat. However, it was very obvious that there were mice in the facility based on the visible droppings in the hallways. Staff in office and out in the storage area was very kind and accommodating. Only comment would be to ensure correct placement of U-box. The 2nd box was placed on a slight incline leaning towards the doors. It made it difficult to open and close the box.Frances D.
I have reserved a 15 feet truck to be picked up by 7/30 9.00 a.m. It was confirmed at the time of booking. But when I went to pick up, the truck was not available. It was the responsibility of U-haul to inform me about that before checking in. So sad. The representative, not ready to check for a truck in other location. Very much disappointed.Samson R.

Had more problems than I care to write about, to sum up:I should have spent the extra money and used a moving truck service. From the infestation of ants all in my items, multiple later and later delivery dates I had to scramble and contact the labor for, to getting billed numerous times for services I was not using- effecting my credit score. Did I try to resolve? If course, for well over a month after everything was said and done Insurance e I paid for didn't cover anything, the run around all over for who was responsible for ants which I ended up getting the exterminator for, and the unresolved complaints that were never responded to once issues were reported and given an issue complain ticket # ('s). No credit for the return of the 4th container as promised multiple times either. This wasn't all the issues, but the major ones. They also sometimes didn't come to the phone, tho an open line let me hear all the background shenanigans of some uhaul employees working from home. It became a part time job almost daily as things reported were things like responsibility for ant infestation over valuables like stamp collections or credit to my account for 4th container ever addressed or fulfilled?- nope... I used to think uhaul was awesome, now...I know better. This service sounds great in theory onlyMary O.

I am VERY UNSATISFIED WITH THIS LOCATION AND WITH UHAUL ITSELF!!!!!!! I GOT 2 DIFFERENT locations to drop off the truck and when I tried to call the 3 numbers I had I couldn't reach ANYONE and the hold time was 30 to 40 minutes!!!!! I dropped the truck off at the location I had chose with the man who rented me the truck at the addy in the paper work that HE wrote on there for me . But my husband looked at the app and it had another address. I chose the one the guy wrote down for us after waiting 15 min on the phone while he was also on the 1800 number waiting. We drove 40 min to the store where we rented the car while both of us were on hold one of us with the store we rented from n the other with the 800 number. When I walked into the store there wasn't a single customer in the store and the kid at the counter must have been new so I get that and the guy in charge was play with boxes . Ok why was I on hold for 55 MINUTES by this point!?!?!?!?!?! Then I got the run around on fixing THEIR mistake. So when I FINALLY THOUGHT I had them fix it I left. I look on my email the next dand they charged men$40. For going 14 miles over the agreement and another 28. For the insurance I ALREADY PAID THE DAY BEFORE!!!!!!!!!! HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND TR UTH ING TO RIP ME OFF AND CANNIT GET INTOUCH WITH ANYONE TO HELP FIX IT!!!!!!! BIG FAT ZERO RATING FOR UHAUL!!!!!!!!!!Lisa R.

Move the reserved equipment to the requested pick-up location - DON'T REQUIRE TO DRIVE 30 MINUTES OUT OF THEIR WAY TO PICK UP TRUCK - with less than 24 hour notice of the change. FILL THE TRUCK with fuel. DON'T REQUIRE THE CUSTOMER TO FILL TO AT LEAST THE LEVEL IT WENT OUT AT. The customer then ends up overfilling (to the BENEFIT of UHAUL) because they don't want to be charged if under the level they picked up at. Hard to know how much to fill to hit 5/8 of a tank. We just moved to the area and found him on the website. He was efficient, explained he would have to order the hitch and call us as soon as it came in(about 4 to 5 days). He called us within the 5 days and asked if we could drop the car off the next day at night and he would have it ready the next day. He was true to his word and we picked up the next day. The 20' van was not swept clean prior to my pickup. There were aquarium rocks everywhere, posing a slip hazard. Also, the vehicle oil warning went off twice within a few minutes of the cold start but disappeared and no further issues occurred. I informed the representative that it may need oil. The steering was incredibly loose, unlike the 15' van that I rented from another location. Please check it.Lorraine D.

Using U-haul was the worst experience in my life. Pick up location is not at fault, but customer service is extremely bad and it was a disappointing experience. Less than 24 hrs calling me that the truck was unavailable after I reserved AND PAID a truck una. Location that the system shows availability. I originally reserved with Methuen to drop off at Haverhull. My reservation was changed. The location that my reservation was changed there was no employees or help to assist with the lock box that wouldn't open. When I arrived at Methuen they told me they did not have a truck for me because no one had communicated with them that I was going to pick one up after speaking to a representative from U-Haul. Took over 20 mins to get a truck and figure out the situation. Lastly when I go to drop off the truck I was getting charged an extra 11.30$ for no reason. I filled the tank to the line before and I was under 48 miles plus even if i wasn't, I was promised 5 extra free miles which would be 53 miles and I did not drive that in total.Stephania C.

The mobile checkin process was terrible. Don't know why didn't ask to upload license before getting there. Also asked for my lease which of course didn't have so had to send from my phone to Apple Watch and take a pic on watch since app wouldn't let upload file. Then had to add a friends phone number as alternate contact which seemed so weird. Then still had to go in to get the key. Could have just gone in person and saved time. Nightmare of a process. There seems to be a lack of coordination between Uhaul locations. I originally planned to pick up my vehicle from a different location and was told there would be some "reimbursement" to compensate for the location change, however the representatives at the new location were not aware of this. Instead of repeating my case for each new representative (both on the phone and in-person), it would be better if the information was centralized for all representatives to have access to it.Henrietta C.

I'm not sure our experience could have been much worse. The Methuen location was quite awful, and that's really saying something, because the location we started at in Waco, Texas was pretty bad. I am still (2 months later) trying to get charges reconciled due to mistakes made by the Methuen employees. Here's a rough overview of our experiences with U-Haul thus far. First, I'll start by briefly telling you a bit about our troubles in Waco, which now seem very light compared to Methuen. We had 3 Uboxes shipped from Waco, TX to the Chelmsford, MA area. We coordinated pickup in Waco, and were greeted by a single employee running an entire store herself, who, at 9AM with very messy hair and attire said â€œoh man you guys are the ones who ordered 3 Uboxesâ€¦..my boss just told me about these when I ran into him at the bar last nightâ€ (honestly, we can't even make this stuff up). It took 2-3 hours of us waiting on her to get a single Ubox to take home and load. We did not realize until we saw a second or third box later, but the first box she gave us did not have the orange tarp on it (it was just a plywood box that was bare) and it DID NOT have the yellow strap on it which goes over the top and keeps it on the trailer. I did make a comment about it seeming somewhat unstable, but I assumed the company knew what it was doing. Glory be to God nothing bad happened on our trips to and fro!! The subsequent Uboxes also took much longer than they should to acquire (between 1 and 2 hours of waiting) and seemed a â€œsurpriseâ€ each time we went to the location and dealt with the same employee. Thankfully, the next 2 boxes were either tarped or were made of metal, and they had the strap over the top that kept them on the trailersâ€¦. The boxes were set to take 18 days to arrive, so we coordinated our move with that and made our pick-up date March 26th in the Chelmsford, MA area where we were moving. The day before we were to pick the boxes up (March 25th), someone from U-Haul customer service called us and told us that the Methuen location would be best for pickup because they are capable of storing multiple Uboxes- this person seemed competent and nice. We set our pick up time at 10 am with him and showed up the next day at that time. When we got to the Methuen location, the employee we dealt with didn't know we were coming, didn't know where our boxes were, had nobody at the location to run a forklift, and at one point, and I quote, said to us â€œI have no f***ing clue where your Uboxes areâ€. She was the one who helped us through the entire experience that day- which was rather unprofessional, as you may be gathering. After at least 2 hours of sitting to wait for the boxes, they located one and we hooked it up and took it. We made sure (with that same employee) that we could pick up the next Ubox- she confirmed, and we set a time early on Monday morning. This is where it becomes a bit of a blur for me- because we went to the location several times and were told they didn't have our reservation, we couldn't pick up our boxes, that we needed to â€œcall customer serviceâ€ (while we were standing IN THE STORE- the guy wanted us to do his job for him to find out where our box was and what had happened to our reservation- later we found out that the same girl we had worked with didn't put in a proper reservation yet told us she did), and we ended up without our Ubox despite already having paid for a mover to come help us move for $130/hour (we had no Ubox, therefore nothing to move). When we finally got an â€œofficialâ€ pickup date and time, the same girl helped us with attaching the Ubox to the car (which we were very familiar with and somehow she was not) and insisted that she do it herself because the â€œcameras were watchingâ€. She probably weighed about 90 lbs and struggled tremendously, finally allowing some help from my husbandâ€¦..but it was obvious she didn't hook up these kinds of trailers often. Through a week of trial and error, a LOT of incompetence and unprofessionalism with the Methuen employees, and many useless trips from Chelmsford to Methuen and back without getting our Uboxes, we finally got our things unloaded and returned everything to U-Haul on April 1st. In the unloading process, we noticed that one of the Uboxes appeared to have been tipped over such that we had many broken items, and everything was falling out as soon as we opened the door. Each time we called customer service throughout this process; we were told that an employee from the Methuen location would call us within 24-48 hours. We are still waiting for about 10 callsâ€¦â€¦At the time of returning all of the Uboxes, we were so glad to be done with U-Haul and rid ourselves of the frustrations that the Methuen employees caused us. The final kicker with all of this is that, somehow, we are not done. We were charged on April 11th by the Methuen location for $102.95 for â€œstorageâ€ of one of our boxes, despite the fact that we had returned them all on April 1st, empty and just as we were supposed to. I have spoken with customer service, again, many times and got them to turn off auto-pay so we won't be charged again. We were told, once again, that we'd have to wait 24-48 hours for Methuen to call us to reverse the prior charges and to note that our Uboxes weren't still being rented by us. I keep receiving emails, and now postal mail, saying that we haven't paid our most recent bill for rental of the Ubox. On my most recent call to customer service (File # 3717153) I spoke to a very nice gentleman (Steve, I believe) who told me that even he couldn't get a hold of the Methuen location (they direct all of their calls back to customer service so there is no way to contact them) and gave me the number of the Eastern Mass regional office and the names of the managers there. I called that number, spoke with someone named Tina Melanson, who said she would connect me to Kyle Mills via email and he would resolve our issue. Perhaps Kyle is busy, but that was last Wednesday, and I still haven't heard back from Kyle. I feel as though U-Haul, specifically the unreachable, unprofessional, and incompetent Methuen location, is NEVER going to resolve our issue and has left a very bad taste in our mouths. I understand that Methuen is without proper management at this time, but I still don't think that's a good reason for employees to be completely incompetent and unprofessional, especially at such a large location- and with the important work they often do helping people move their entire lives (and all of their belongings) cross-country. With these experiences, it would be very hard for me to want to use U-Haul ever again. Especially after spending thousands of dollars at U-Haul over the past several months, and only getting headaches, missing/broken items, incorrect charges, wasting hours on the phone with customer service, and having to deal with unprofessional employees in return. I wish I could write a better review, but this is where we're at. I hope this helps to improve your services.Kathleen A.

First, I had and been asking to get a smaller unit since may of 2021, always told there are no small units available. I asked for smaller unit because I only had two items that need storing. This past month, October, my payment is due on the 30th of each month, it was October 1,2021, you placed a lock on my unit for being one day late. The place is very clean and secure, but your employees, customer service, and hours there are horrible. Examples, it would take me times that I help because I card not working over half hour, with nobody there. Then there is the hours, there is uhaul employees either not there on hours of operations or they have door lock and they are inside. Scheduling and In-store Staff awere helpful. There was no fence securing storage area and it was accessible via side street. The store looked fine; however, the storage area was located behind an old vacant building which made the area look like a JUNK YARD. I in and moved out a few days later. I was forced to pay movers twice and cancelled my 1 month FREE unit. I paid for 2 trucks due to difficulty trying to communicate from out of state via telephone with local Methuen facility questions. Price of 1st truck was billed for two days intentionally then refunded later. Change in location of 1st truck caused me to have find new mover helpers after truck was in hand. Price of 2nd truck was $200 more than online quote 1 week earlier. SIGNIFICANT DISCOUNT should be given for horrible experience due to lack of communication with local facility. Now I am being bill toll violations when I have made numerous calls to proactively pay tolls. Admin fees should be credited. I was told that I would be emailed or texted when tolls were posted which I could pay right away to avoid fees. Two young males were at the counter. One was helping a customer, the other (new employee) was on his phone and not only didn't acknowledge us, but was zombie-like in his response when addressed. When the other clerk was able to assist us, he gave very poor direction to where the storage unit was located. He also gave the wrong unit number so we had to wait until he resolved that issue. All while we waited in the 90 degree sun and 3 paid helpers standing around for 30 minutes while he figured things out. Once the correct unit was opened, it was dirty with leaves, dirt, screws and big piles of what looked like spider eggs. They should at least sweep them out before a new customer uses them. So far, our experience has been very good. The only thing that has made the experience less than perfect is that there has only been one staff person to help in what appears to be a high-traffic establishment. That put the staff person under a lot of pressure. He had to keep us waiting while he took care of other customers, as he would have to leave the office to escort us to the storage unit at the far end of the lot. My only suggestion is that you print up flyers that detail such things as the rules and rates for using the Dumpster, and advising people to photograph a truck before they leave the lot - the same information that comes to the phone as you're about to drive out.
