The place was very busy. The staff were ok but when it came to the gentleman connecting the trailer to my RV he took forever. He kept arguing with me about my ability to maneuver the RV and the trailer out of the lot. I believe if I were a man he wouldn't have questioned it. The trailer I was assigned to was in horrible condition. Not well maintained. Driving down the highway I encountered some very bumpy roads which caused the right ramp to dislodge and drag on the highway. I had to pull over and figure out a way to strap the ramp in place so it wouldn't happen again.Jennifer W.
Everything was fine, it was busy and perhaps short staffed. We felt rushed through, and a little confused as to where to find the truck and where to drop off.Maria R.
Arriving at the facility by car on Marginal Way and Just passing Cove St. I completely missed the entrance. Google maps had me come around the building go back up Co Street, I drove in the drive-up storage area and proceeded to find my way to customer parking. Upon reaching the front desk, Tristan explained that that was not in his normal position and tried to assist me the best he could. I told him I rented a locker online and needed to be shown where the locker was. He was not trained on the web self Storage. In hindsight he should have also asked me for my ID to verify who I was. I recall that I did get the code on the U-Haul app and sign up process and brought up the information on my phone. Tristan asked to see the code. He than showed me around the building to the indoor storage units. He showed me two keypads one to disarm my unit the other to enter the facility. He proceeded to answer all my questions with knowledge and was very helpful. Tristan explained that this location was temporary housing the vehicle repair as a new repair facility construction is ongoing. Tristan deserves recognition for being able to handle a position outside his own and providing me a good experience.David P. | Online Move In
Staff was extremely rude and not customer friendly. Never recieved a text so I couldn't report that my gas was empty. When I brought it to the staffs attention I was told sorry I won't change anything. Uhaul usually has full tanks when you pick up but this one let's trucks go out empty with no gas stations nearby.Zachary J.

Overall we tend to use UHaul exclusively for transporting house furniture, personal belongings, and business stuff, etc, with great success. Quite frankly the drivers seat of the cargo van we rented was kind of dirty and appeared to not have been vacuumed. We received the van with a 3/4 tank full of gas which when returning is more difficult to guage then to simply fill it up. Thus we returned the vehicle full giving UHaul approximately 2-1/2 gallons or $13.48 of gas. Otherwise, the van was great and served our purpose. I think the only real issue I had with my rental is that I had rented a hand truck along with my van, and the counter person didn't tell me how to get it. I had to go back and ask, and he said to just take one from the line of hand trucks out front. I don't know how I was supposed to just assume to do that, or what I would've done if I'd arrived after the staff was out for the day. Otherwise the process was very smooth and easy.Kate S.
Upon starting my rental, the windshield was dirty and had an interior film, making it dangerous to see with any sun glare. The exterior had mud splashes up the sides. Take the optional dolly and blankets out of the trucks. They were in my way and I paid fuel to move their dead weight. Our service with the moving company we hired was terrible. Trying to get through to talk to someone was a nightmare. I will say that I rated my overall experience as "Average" because the mobile app that I chose to use was not working so I had to go into the office and finish my process there. Having waited in a long checkin line recently, I opted for the self checkin online. About 10 minutes later declining upgrades, thinking I was done the process, I had to walk back to the office to pick up the key. He said he was "changing me out to a different van". OK, no problem. Now when I got to the new van and tried to confirm the odometer/fuel readings on-line, they didn't agree with the prior van. Arghh. If you're keeping vehicles remote, then put the keys in them (or don't allow self checkin). If you're switching vehicles, then resend the new fuel/odometer readings so you don't have to go through the process again. I got a return phone call, and a new link, but by then I was driving up 295 and couldn't safely respond to the text. Next time I'll try another location and go to the counter. No complaints with the people, just the process. Our recent prior rental was also for a cargo van, but it had problems with the ABS system. I wonder if that was the same van that was originally assigned to me the second time. If so, it should have been put on the disabled list until fixed.Curtis B.

Right after I clicked â€œI found my truck,â€ someone else came over with the key and took my truck, so I had to wait in line at the counter for a new assignment. When we got the new assignment, we had to go back a second time to get the equipment I had reserved. Not a huge deal, but I had movers waiting for me because I had previously done the online check-in and thought it would be as quick as it has been in the past. Instead, it was kind of a pain to wait in line. I appreciate the clerk at the counter who rectified the situation quickly, though.Rebecca B.

I had to "go find" the truck. It was parked out and I was told it's "out there". With other U-Hauls (Plano TX) the truck is parked at a designated marked spot. Alos noted the tank was less then 1/8 of which I was provided a credit.Selena W.

I have rented many truck from this location in the past 5 years. Never had an issue picking up or returning. Doing the online rental make for a quick pickup, especially when you can download your license prior to arriving. All the counter people have been very nice.James C.

We were overcharged for the gas. We had put two gallons into the tank just before we brought back the truck - we put 2 gallons into the tank for a 12 mile trip -( the number on the odometer was one number higher than what was emailed to me at the start of our rental.) They added a charge for 2 gallons of gas. Why your truck would need 4 gallons of gas for 12 miles is ludicrous. We were assured that we would be credited the charge for the gas the very next day, but I just checked my credit card statement and saw no refund credited. I was charged for gas even when I brought it back at the same level I received it at. Also, I was double charged for a dolly and furniture pads, so I had to go through the claims department and get a refund, which was a lengthy process. Picked up uhaul rental Marginal Way Portland. While checking in two observations . Employee was very intrusive asking me ALOT of personal questions , very uncomfortable . Then a customer returning a rental went completely ballistic totally unhinged accusing employees of overcharging him . I was in middle of the transaction being charged for the pick up of a trailer at the register . I quickly exited stuff more and was pulling out my phone to call the police into the situation as the older male customer was kicking and throwing things around while yelling . The female manager was very brave and impressive and she and the attending employee asked the man to step out if the shoe room area . She was impressive in her confidence and ability to negotiate with the man calming him down after taking him to task and scrutinizing his behavior . She came around when we were being hooked up to the trailer and shared that the man had calmed down and apologized sharing she had never encountered this before but honestly it was very alarming very unsettling and really shook me was rattled a good party of the day and I feel the rental should have been complimentary for what I had to contend with . I have secured rentals previously from this facility and never a problem . The manager was very impressive in her ability to show admirable truly top managerial restraint and tact . I appreciated her checking in with me after dealing with that irate irrational ballistic customer .Suzanne H.

Everything was fine but they've been unhelpful with my fuel issue. I sent a picture of the fuel when I filled up but they did nothing. I paid over $800 for the truck and they are trying to stick me for another 2 gallons of gas. The woman who dropped off my U-boxes did SUCH A GREAT JOB. Her ability to be kind and gentle with that forklift to my boxes was phenomenal. She placed the boxes in the perfect spot for it to be easy access from the boxes to inside the house. She was fantastic. I highly recommend this Uhaul location for any U-box needs.arian O.

Uhaul never told me that I cannot tow a rear wheel drive automatic transmission with a tow dolly. Completely ruined my Transmission and I need to replace it entirely. Well, I returned the truck I rented as scheduled, cleaned because the interior was filthy, and a day later I start getting VM's asking when I will be returning the truck. The staff never checked it in! They took the keys when I dropped off and said â€œyou are all set.â€ I asked if I needed to check it in and the dude said no. Pretty loose. One thing to consider: when people are tenting moving equipment they are already very stressed out. The rental process should be smooth and easy.Dave D.
Becky Coleman and the gentleman who closed out my account were very helpful and professional. Otherwise, everything about the UHaul experience I disliked - from the antiquated and frustrating way I would get charged a late fee despite you having my credit card on file, to the multiple times I showed up and my unit was locked by you despite my bill being paid in full every month. (Again, you had my credit card that has never expired or stopped working.) Your rates went up constantly, and half the time the trucks were parked in front of my garage in a way that made it impossible to access in off hours. I arrived slightly after hours, but there were still some employees coming and going from the building. I asked were they would like me to park the truck and one gentleman rudely said "you gotta use the app" and closed the door in my face. I realize that he was probably off the clock, but it wouldn't have taken him any more time to just point & say "over there". I couldn't get the app to work, so I had to improvise & just do what I thought looked right. In the end, it turned out alright, but had to wonder all night whether or not I had parked in the right place.Robert S.

When a customer reserves moving pads they should be reserved and held aside not first come first serve. Also, when I reserved a hand truck and the counter associate asks if I still want one they should tell the customer where to get it!!! I had assumed there would be one on the truck and there wasn't. Made our move very difficult so that was bullshit. I had reserved a truck in town where I lived and had to drive outta town to pick one up; that wasn't helpful at all. Wasted my time, added miles I didn't need to drive in wrong direction for. I had assumed my reservation town would've been where I picked up my truck. Was never told it may be at a different location. I ended up running around in wrong direction of my liver in town when it could've been much more simple if things were closer.elizabeth S.

Giogie was great and super helpful! He went above and beyond! The staff that got me checked in made a mistake on the drop off location. I wanted to drop the equipment off at the Jay Maine location as it is only 12 min from my house. The staff at portland told me that jay was too full and I couldn't return it there. And instead I had to return it to Winthrop which is 45 min away from my house requiring extra gas etc. When I got to the Winthrop location they did not have it in their computer, instead it said I was supposed to drop it off in Jay. So the person in portland never changed the drop off location in the computer. So I had to wait for 40 min at the Winthrop location for this to be corrected so I wasn't charged extra. What should have been a 30 min round trip (if allowed to return to jay) turned into a 3hr round trip, while spending extra money on gas. The appliance dolly was also not given to me at the time of pickup.Katlin H.

Your front desk staff was so bad I was there crying last night at 7p trying to move my items into storage. She was confused, explained things incorrectly, and left out pertinent information like the loading bay closes at 5....not 10. I had to go back to the office a total of 5 times for various reasons because she was so so bad. She said the key card was activated, it was not, she lost my account and couldn't find me again somehow, she said there would be a lock in the unit and had me put away the one I was purchasing....there was no lock. Understaffed, and I called 3 times and waited on hold 20 minutes and when I got through was told I didn't have a unit waiting even though I had confirmation and a reservation number from my online order. When I arrived I was given a unit that had a lock on it. The manager walked out to the unit with me and removed the uhaul lock. She was very helpful. We were told a storage unit was included with our truck rental. When we arrived no unit was reserved. We got that straightened out and then told we had to buy a round lock. We did. Then in the storage unit was a new round lock. So we moved our stuff in and went to get a refund on the purchased lock. We were told that the lock was necessary and no refund would be given. If we had gone to the storage unit first we would have had a free lock. After going round and round we asked for the manager who refunded our lock purchase. The practice of separate bills for each unit when I had two units led to double very high late fees. I went online and put the payment on auto, then received a few days later a letter telling me that if I put the payment on auto The late fees would be refunded. They were not refunded and I got another late fee the next month for one unit which is when I found out that each unit was charged separately. RYAN IS A HOME RUN GUY. Unfortunately you have an IDIOT AT YOUR BRUNSWICK OFFICE who wanted to charge a drop-off fee twice the rental fee for a defective trailer rental where the hitch detached while on I295. Only because of my experience driving trucks was I able to prevent what could easily have become a catastrophic accident. And the fellow who rented and hooked up the trailer in S. Ryan Lent waited on me several times over the past month when I was there for vehicle rentals and returns, and purchasing moving supplies. Ryan was also there on the day I moved my belongings into the storage unit. Ryan walked me to the unit, assisted with the lock, explained the process. I used the uhall drive up storage units in downtown Portland Maine for 3 months. The units were not clean when I took possesion and by design are not well sealed from environmental polution, risk of contamination from adjacent units. STAY AWAY!!! They play games after games after games. There is no GM so it's the wild west! They DO NOT honor their own benefits that you pay for that is CLEARLY LISTED ON THEIR SIGNS! They wanna be nosey and watch you with you OWN STUFF. Multiple complaints fall on deaf ears. And if you complain about their crappy service they wnd up taking more of your benefits away but keep charging you the same rate. Multiple complaints to corporate with ZERO resolution. They you feel like your doing something wrong for using the storage unit THAT YOU PAY for. Place is absolute joke!!! I went right down the road to a competitor with NO hesitation. I ended up not keeping the unit because the 1-800 agent told me the unit was ground floor...or if it was second floor there would be an elevator. Unfortunately, neither was correct - and the stairs were small and would not have allowed us to move in some of our larger items. You need more staff, more parking, more and easier access to interior storage with more bays and more carts, MORE DIRECT ACCESS TO TRAINED AND INFORMED PHONE/COUNTER STAFF. Hire cheap get cheap. Usually young. IMPORTANT: I talked to 2 employees on the call-center line and neither had accurate or satisfactory information both of which was vital and time-sensitive. Third individual had the right info and assurances. I fell on ice on street where I was forced to park because the U-Haul lot was full of trucks and vans on a slow Sunday morning. You charge for EVERYTHING connected to your business. The least you can do is to provide a commensurate service. Doing otherwise labels you as arrogant because you are the "only game in town".
