Trailer Hitch Installation for 2010 Toyota FJ Cruiser (VIDEO)

To add a trailer hitch to your 2010 FJ Cruiser, you will need some basic tools, a CURT 13367 class 3 trailer hitch and 30 minutes to an hour to complete the installation. Follow the basic steps below to start hauling a variety of hitch-mounted accessories with your FJ Cruiser today.

About the CURT 13367

The CURT 13367 is a class 3, bolt-on trailer hitch designed to fit the 2010 Toyota FJ Cruiser. The hitch has a max trailer weight of 5,000 lb. and max tongue weight of 500 lb. No welding or drilling is required to install this hitch on your Toyota FJ Cruiser.

Tools needed:

• 11/16" socket
• 13mm socket
• 17mm socket
• 19mm socket
• Ratchet
• Ratchet extension
• Torque wrench
• Pry bar

2010 Toyota FJ Cruiser hitch installation steps:

1. Remove rear tow hooks

First, locate the rear tow hooks. If present, you will need to remove them. They will not be reinstalled after the hitch is in place, so find a safe place to store them long term.

2. Lower the exhaust

Temporarily lower the exhaust by removing the three exhaust rods from the rubber isolators. Use a soapy water mixture to help remove the exhaust rods if necessary.

3. Lubricate weld nuts (if necessary)

Examine the weld nuts on the bottom of your FJ Cruiser’s frame. If they are corroded, use a penetrating lubricant and wire brush to clean them. This will allow your hitch to securely fasten to the vehicle.

4. Loosely attach the hitch

Raise the hitch into position and loosely attach it to the frame using the 12mm hex bolts and conical tooth washers into the existing weld nuts. Make sure the passenger side plate is above the exhaust pipe.

5. Fishwire the carriage bolts

Insert the coiled end of the fishwire into the hitch mounting hole in the vehicle frame rail and out the access hole in the vehicle frame. You may need to temporarily remove an access plug. Attach the square-holed spacer over the coiled end of the fishwire, then thread the carriage bolt into coil end of the fishwire. Pull on the opposing end of the fishwire pulling the carriage bolt into the spacer and out the frame rail. Un-thread the fish-wire and secure the bolt with the supplied hex flange nut. Repeat this process on the opposing side.

6. Torque the hardware

Torque all supplied hardware to that specified in the supplied instruction sheet, and raise the exhaust back into position. Insert the exhaust rods into the rubber isolators.

This completes the installation of the CURT 13367 class 3 trailer hitch on the 2010 Toyota FJ Cruiser.
